you shouldn't have much trouble enlisting in the navymy friend just joined. His recruiter gave him stuff to help pass a drug test.

^^ yeah, you'd think that when they show you that pretty pipeline diagram, and they're all like "you can get picked up for officer in as little as 15 months!!!" it makes young 17-year-olds like I was light up, luckily I saw the light and busted ass to apply for college and get into an ROTC program before I got shipped off... a Masterchief took care of my stuff, and I was able to do the officer training until health issues came up and I had to bow out
10/17/2005 9:15:21 PM
hey tarzanian do you speak from experience or you just going by the job title? after all the training all they do is stare at guages then skip after watch cleanup to hit the rack.....seems like they are doing their part doesnt it?
10/23/2005 12:23:48 PM
youve been seamen once why be it again?
10/23/2005 4:03:41 PM
I speak from experience.

I could say a few things about nukes. But I was one and am one, so I won't.
10/23/2005 7:19:03 PM
Somehow I doubt that the fore/aft split will ever die.

The best thing to do is just call the recruiter and go in and talk to them. I did it over the summer and they are really pretty nice straight forward people who aren't going to pressure you into doing anything you don't want to. They gave me really good advice about what I need to do to get where I want to be. Andy Frahm who's in that email someone posted is a good person to talk to as well as Keith Sarich at Reserves if you're thinking of going that way. Enlisting even if you have a degree isn't that uncommon, one of my friends older brothers enlisted rather than went for commission because of what he wanted to do (jump out of planes and whatnot). Its all a matter of what you want to do and they'll be happy to tell you the best way to do it.

well i can say that the same isnt for all boats out there. for the nukes on my boat it is just bout the opposite. however when something breaks we usually just fix our own shit, that goes for forward and aft. i must say though, that the nukes on my boat are some lazy bastards. and ill be the first to admit that sonar is boring staring at screens all the damn time. however we are the only watch on board, aside from the radiomen, that usually end up port and starboard when the arrays go out and we will never see kick outs like the nukes are always in.
10/25/2005 11:42:00 AM
BrettFavre, what are you, as a sonar tech, doing when the Philly is in port?
10/25/2005 5:19:46 PM
haha

hey CSES (combat systems electronic space - for all you non fast attack tough people) needs some painting......and i have a novel to read and all that. there are NUBS to be corrected and "trained" etc. etc etc.......oh yea and the never ending field days and preunderways and all that bs. and being next to the tender i have to deal with the surface navy......man i thought some of our nubs were bad but damn.....nothing beats a surface sailor. Submarines Once, Submarines Twice
10/27/2005 3:42:29 AM
Ha ha, I worked with a few ex-submariners at my co-opyou guys are some cocky motherfuckers
10/27/2005 8:02:06 AM
Maybe they are cocky because they worked with so many seamen[crickets chirping]I love puns.
10/27/2005 8:19:34 AM
We are cocky because we have to know so much shit to do what we have to do. unlike surface ships that have dedicated damage control men, subs dont have the room to carry those guys so the crew has to take over those responsibilities......not to mention we do things that most wouldnt even dare. like live on a ship that is the size of a 3 bedroom house and purposefully sink our boat to go under the water. call it crazy or whatever but there are very few of us that have done it and we take pride, sometimes excessive pride, in what we do. I know im damn proud to be a Submariner and say that I have earned my Silver Dolphins (the warfare insignia of the submarine sailor).STS2 (SS) Pattee
