THEN YOURE TALKING ABOUT A PRODUCERWHICH IS NOT AN ARTISTkanye is an ok MC...he's entertaining for surebut he's not super incredibly skilled as far as talent and technique gothe thing about kanye is that he can straddle the line of being a superstar producer, making chart topping beatsANDhe can rap a littlebut verbally he comes nowhere close to touching nas or a whole slew of upper echelon mc's
8/22/2005 11:47:26 AM
Did I say he was the best rapper? Did I say he was the best artist? Did I? Did I?No, I didn't. I said, "Kanye West is the best in the game." He's a great lyricist and a top-notch producer. As far as talent goes, no one can touch him right now. Look at his resume.I love Nas, but he has a lot of filler on his CD's. His lyrics are great, but aren't that much better than Kanye's.

your card is officially revoked
8/22/2005 12:11:48 PM
Yeah, ok, sure. That's an easy way out of the argument, I guess.

Kanye's first CD had very little filler. You can't count the "skits" (I'm getting sick of that trend).
8/22/2005 1:12:44 PM
why can't you count the skits?that shit annoys the fuck out of me.

HAHA^
8/22/2005 2:07:14 PM
hahahahaha
8/22/2005 2:11:03 PM
skits=fillerwhat the hell else would you call them?
8/22/2005 2:48:53 PM
he probably thought that Speakerboxx/Love Below didn't have any filler either.
8/22/2005 2:50:12 PM
When people refer to "filler" on a CD, they're talking about songs. Yes, the skits are annoying, but they're not put on there to fill up the CD. That's what lame-ass songs are for.And don't even act like you could come up with better lyrics than Kanye West. If so, I'd love to see you post some of them here in this thread for us to marvel at.
8/22/2005 2:56:31 PM
hey you're the lame making the case that kanye is on the same level as nas when it comes to raw lyrical talent, and we're making the case that we're laughing at you
8/22/2005 3:00:24 PM
You keep thinking I'm saying Kanye is the best rapper.I keep telling you that I'm talking about the total package. You're an idiot.
8/22/2005 3:05:01 PM
really cause last time i checked your entire argument was focused on kanyes lyrical ability only[Edited on August 22, 2005 at 3:07 PM. Reason : i mean ill quote from 2 posts up if you want]
8/22/2005 3:06:50 PM
total package Kanye wins, Kanye cant be touched.this CD really has no filler songs that suck ass, even the skits are funny as hellBROKE PHI BROKE!we aint got it
8/22/2005 3:10:44 PM
I'll go ahead and requote myself for you.
8/22/2005 3:11:05 PM
if thats your argument then why are you even comparing kanye to nas what is the point of making the nas comparison if youre going to include the producing element?Lil G said:
8/22/2005 3:28:45 PM
1. I never brought up Nas. Someone else did.2. My original statement was, "Kanye West is the best in the game." It's not my fault if someone misreads that. I thought I cleared up any misunderstandings when I said I was talking about the total package. Apparently, there are some pretty selective-hearing motherfuckers on TWW.3. I'm still waiting for your lyrics, oh great rap god.
8/22/2005 3:32:55 PM
he actually never did say Kanye was the best lyricist, just that he was good at it.your not really proving a point, and nas really isnt that good either in my opinion.
8/22/2005 3:35:10 PM
The "you can't do better" argument is a middle-school level tactic. For people on the short bus.
8/22/2005 4:02:26 PM
Well, it's pretty obvious that all of these guys are better lyricists than a platinum artist. I just wanted to get a peek at their talent.

8/22/2005 6:04:26 PM
Lil G is white.I hope the other person who says that the new Kanye has no filler has never listened to rap before, b/c this album is pretty shitty. I'm giving this album a 5, MAYBE a 6.
8/22/2005 6:16:02 PM
cmon now. kanye is ALRIGHT at rapping and decent at being a producer. he just happens to be able to put the two together well. I mean a rapper producer should be able to make flawless albums because you can just cook up the beats that you need to fit the shit that you write and vice versa. so back to my point, kanye is pretty average. And that "look at his resume" argument is stupid. There are plenty o f better producers with longer resumes (scott storch?!?).Anyway, I don't like this cd nearly as much as college dropout. I'm feeling maybe 5 songs max on here.
8/23/2005 7:10:35 AM
I can't believe that we're having this discussion. When people refer to the "best in the game," they're generally referring to lyrical ability (i.e., Jay-Z, Nas, et. al.). I apologize if I got this thread off on an unnecessary tangent. I think packguy381 hit the nail on the head once when he referred to Kanye as a renaissance man--skilled at production and lyricism, but not necessarily expert status at either of them. He ain't the greatest lyricist and he ain't the greatest producer, but he does both of them well. The only other comparisons I can think of are Lil' Jon and Pharrell...and while his rhyming style isn't necessarily my cup of tea, one could easily argue that Lil' Jon's the most successful of the three. I mean, shit...if Kanye hadn't got signed to the Roc, he wouldn't be nearly as successful as he is now. Lil' Jon's really made something out of nothing at TVT. But yeah...This album, as good as I think it is, doesn't come close to College Dropout...and lyrically (and in terms of Kanye's own production) it doesn't come close to being as good as Be.
8/23/2005 10:04:52 AM
What I really want to hear is an album produced by Kanye with Talib, Mos Def, and Common rapping, and an occasional Kanye verse.
8/23/2005 11:37:32 AM
personally i feel like kanye is afflicted with the ludacris syndromeaka"killin everybody's tracks but his own"-itishis affliction is in the minor stages where as luda is full blown...(well maybe not now that red light district came out, but after chicken and beer, most definitely)
8/23/2005 11:46:51 AM
^sorry, Busta still has that title locked down

8/23/2005 4:10:15 PM
^^ no sir, that would be drag-on's crown, never to be lost
8/24/2005 1:53:17 AM
^did drag-on really kill numerous tracks though?
8/24/2005 11:37:40 AM
yeah i disagree there.Luda definitely shares the crown with busta though, although he has somewhat redeemed himself with red light district.but there are some rappers out there who can put alot more quality material into one verse than an entire song, and i wish they would recognize thatsame with artists who put out double cds when one without the filler would be a killer album
8/24/2005 11:41:34 AM
^ yea luda definately takes that crown...I can't really stand a whole album of his but I love his guest spots (heard gossip folks for the first time in a long time and forgot how he ripped that beat)plus, that bittersweet shit with John Mayer, what the fuck is the big deal...the song dosent sound that hot, and goes to support my notion that I think dude is gayBut everyone is going bananas over a 30 second snippet
8/24/2005 11:43:35 AM
when did Big Pun lose the crown for being hotter on compilation tracks than solo tracks
8/24/2005 12:06:17 PM
I skipped reading all that shit above to say that I downloaded the album, it's pretty decent, I was a bit disappointed though, I was truly expecting to see some work with John Maher.
