What are the specs for this projector?
8/12/2005 2:43:33 PM
If anyone's interested in this projector woot.com has them for the next 24 hours (or until they sell out) for $699 +$5 shipping.I finally caved in and got one.Now the question is is it worth $79 for a 12 month extended warranty?[Edited on August 18, 2005 at 1:27 AM. Reason : warranty question]

Yeah, I saw that post. Honestly my first thought after I bought it was, I wonder if I could project porn onto the building next to me with it. ^That guy was just thinking a little bit bigger. So no one has any opinions about if the extended warranty is worth the extra money?
8/19/2005 1:42:18 AM
i didnt do it..... mine is refurb and dont think gonna throw 300 bucks on extended .... (hope does not matter...)BTW i got yesterday ThaSoulja12 screen mounted.... and looks drooling .... for $31 was a bargain!R.
8/24/2005 10:35:33 AM
congrats man, if you can manage to get your room dark, projection is insane
8/24/2005 11:09:19 AM
thats one of the setbacks .... well you can always wait for the night to watch the movie
8/24/2005 5:24:13 PM
^ Yeah, I set mine up last year w/ black curtains so we could make it dark anytime. This year I'm using a 51" HDTV. Beautiful picture, but not quite as wowwing as that 95" projection image. Once I get a house I'll have a dedicated movie/dark room, though.
8/24/2005 6:40:11 PM
So if you watch standard TV does it just scale to the full screen or fit in a 4:3 box on the screen?
8/24/2005 7:02:59 PM
Sout, where did you buy the curtains? I am looking for a place to buy them .... (cheap?)
8/25/2005 9:23:20 AM
I'm setting my room up tonight so I'm also interested in finding out the best way to make it dark. I only have one window to worry about (well it's a set of sliding glass doors actually). I'm also looking for any mounting advice too if anyone has any tips. I know next to nothing about all this stuff.I was looking at doing this for the time being for a screen.http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=390146[Edited on August 25, 2005 at 10:27 AM. ^I would be intrested in viewing that if you ever got it complete. Good Luck

the time warner box will either A) put the image in a 4:3 box inside the 16:9 screen B) Zoom in on the 4:3 to fill the 16:9 C) Stretch the 4:3 to fill the width

I figured that they would instead of going out of sync. The projectors I use at work are all 4:3 and get tempermental when dealing with mixed resolutions. I have used them frequently but do not have much experience with home theater projectors.[Edited on August 25, 2005 at 8:38 PM. Reason : ]

I would be amazed if a projector produced in the last 2 years couldnt somehow display a 480p/ 720p /1080i signal (at least one of them will net you widescreen). On my xga lcd projector (4:3) i set a custom 576p i believe 16:9 windows resolution, and it works if i change the res once the LCD is on, but not when i reboot the computer (fucking gay shit i hate computers) or restart the LCD.ill be ordering a more lumen per watt efficient bulb in the next few weeks.

picked up a quart of silverscreen paint, testing it on some posterboard atm. currently letting the first coat dry, seems to make colors deeper(obviously) and does improve contrast on the now black grays .will post more later
8/27/2005 8:43:51 PM
2nd coat on, and drying,...
8/27/2005 9:31:41 PM
and so?
8/28/2005 3:30:37 PM
Helps alot with blacks, no less or more gain then just normal BO cloth. I cant decide if i want to paint the entire screen or not, im kind of torn. Its "different". If i didnt have an already constructed and velveted BO cloth screen i would probably go with gray paint right off the bat, esp. considering i use an LCD projector.
8/28/2005 5:34:25 PM
totally tore down my projector today, making an adjustable lamp carriage. sucks ass and i wonder what all i broke plunge cutting a 6" square into the side of the beast.
8/29/2005 7:40:38 PM
sorry to hear that ...if you wanna check my equipment anytime feel free to drop me a PM ... (aside from your comment)
8/29/2005 8:48:00 PM
everything appears to be back in working order, i improved brightness around the edges, i think it was worth it. i needed to route a new vga cable regardless.
8/29/2005 10:29:02 PM
Should have done it right the first time, of course, I have never said this before.
8/29/2005 11:13:43 PM
No one cares what you had to say then.No one cares what you have to say now. You'll find this to be a recurring theme.TypeA's shitty attempt to be relevant aside, the corners do look a lot better and now we really just need to tweak all the computer's settings to get the best possible image off shitty DVDs.[Edited on August 30, 2005 at 12:25 AM. I don't expect a couple of hacks and failures to plan shit out that didn't listen to me the first time around to care this time around. But I said it before and I'll say it this time (and I know you are listening), do the shit right the first time. You guys tried to goad me about how much I spent OVER A YEAR BEFORE on some stuff I was trying to unload when I got around to it, then went and got some cobbled together shit and tried to claim some sort of success or superiority. You then realized how overhyped you made it all out to be and ended up spending the amount of money anyway I claimed it would take to get the job done right in the first place. You still failed to spend a little bit of extra money (~10% more) and a little bit of extra time to do a proper lightbox and save yourself a monstrosity of a box hanging from your ceiling. It's a good thing the chicks you guys are into doesn't mind that kind of thing. So, congrats on something that very few others on this board or anywhere in this county can/will do, but fuck you refusing to recognize "I told you so".

I finally made a screen out of Blackout cloth (mentioned earlier in this topic). My projected image is 114" so the cloth (from jo ann) cost me ~$18. I notice a significant difference from just my bare wall. The dig cam images don't do it justice. For those of you debating on making a screen, its worth the $20.I have a Panasonice PT-AE700U Projector. The roll of blackout cloth was 54" wide so it worked out perfect for my screen, any image taller than 54" you may be forced to connect 2 sheets.
