id suggest vmware'ing it.the longhorn pre-beta 4051(i believe) i installed natively, and it ran, but man it was definitely not ready to run even as a test system.although im probably going to just go ahead and install beta1 native too, just because im a dork.

is Virtual PC better or worse than VMWare? or do they do the same things.

I just installed it on a different partion from XP and it Vista is running great on my computer (2GHz 754 Sempron, 512MB RAM, Radeon 9500 pro). I am actually using Vista to post this. I had used a earlier alpha of longhorn and I was not impressed in the slightest, but I am surprisied at the stability of this beta. The only real problem I have had is that driver installation was kind of a pain in the ass, since I had to manually install a lot of them, but pretty much everything works now. Right now it is really only a prettier XP but if I had to I could use this to do my day to day stuff online.

that's not the point of an OS, but nice to know that it's useless.[Edited on July 29, 2005 at 8:46 PM. Reason : .]

How the hell did you come up with Vista being 'useless'?

beta 1 is useless

Microsoft has been very good at keeping me employed fixing their shitty OSes.I only hope they can be kind enough to keep up the trend.

Hmm.Vista seems to not particularly like my PC.Boot up takes a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time and I get no boot screen. In OS performance is terrible (Without avalon and indigo installed) and all this on a p4 3.4 with 1 gb ram.
