7/19/2005 2:34:49 PM
whoa, when did alfie's close? that was my favorite spot on hillsborough, and i was looking forward to hitting it up once i'm back in raleigh in a month... and cream and bean, too? damn, i've missed a lot in a year.and it's not hillsborough st., but along the lines of eating establishments, i remember when you could get a real, sit-down steak dinner at the spot where the wolves' den is now.
7/19/2005 9:09:32 PM
What's sad is that I read this thread and realize that all of these places are gone now
7/19/2005 9:29:01 PM
^^ ? Who was it run by and was it actually good?
7/19/2005 10:29:18 PM
It was run by University Dining and supposedly it was good. You got like one or two dinners there a month or something with your meal plan. When I got to State it was gone but Wolves den wasn't as crappy as it is now. You could actually order real full size pizzas that were freshly made instead of that stone willy's nonsense.
7/20/2005 2:34:34 PM
^^^^ 'twas called "the underground." you could get one meal a month (though apparently athletes didn't have limits.) there was usually a line and a wait of about 30 minutes. you had the choice of chicken, steak, or pasta i believe. (the pasta was the only place on campus that remotely tasted like pasta.)^no more large pizzas? (i think the large ones were still stone willy.) i think we were able to get a few people and share the cost of the large across the cards. when it first switched to wolves', there were people who stood around waiting for someone to finish so they could bus the tables (like what was done at the underground.) people often took care of the trash themselves which i believe lead to the loss of waitstaff.[Edited on July 20, 2005 at 2:48 PM. 7/20/2005 2:47:07 PM
yeah, the Underground was actually decent, and then it all went to shit.

^ i was about to say that too - everybody thinks the Amore crew is italian. They're actually all from Syria. And they're cool as shit. Anybody go to that party they had there about 2 years ago? It didn't end until like 4am, with $1 draft and $1 slices. It was great. The old lady warms up if you fucking talk to her every damn time you go in there. And when did alfies close down? What is that place now (besides being cursed to fail)?
7/21/2005 11:23:42 AM

7/21/2005 6:15:17 PM

7/21/2005 7:48:57 PM

7/21/2005 8:45:55 PM

Well atleast we know that Tony's character was not defamed. Obviously it was semi accurate.
7/22/2005 7:16:33 PM
We should be getting to page three soon. Who knows how many different places the current City Limits Saloon has been?
7/22/2005 7:17:52 PM
I liked Tony and his pizza place. He made some damned good pizza.
7/22/2005 7:19:32 PM
Las Margaritas circa 95/96. Think it was something else and then Colorados. They had some kick-ass quesadillas. The State Shop between Eckerds/Papa Johns. That McDonalds was great. Never could believe they couldn't stay in business.
7/22/2005 7:22:47 PM
Not on Hillsborough St per se, but is the 1911 Building C-store still run by the blind? I remember going there and not knowing that the lady was blind. I thought she was a little odd when she didn't see me place the dollar bill on the counter to pay for my coke Oh yeah, remember when NCSU switched from Coke to Pepsi? That upset me to no end until (I think) my senior year again.[Edited on July 22, 2005 at 7:28 PM. Reason : .]
7/22/2005 7:28:16 PM
I don't care if it's Coke or Pepsi as long as I can get a Dr. Pepper.
7/23/2005 12:39:25 AM
then i think its coke you need ...pepsi calls for mr. pibbam I wrong?
7/23/2005 10:54:34 PM
^^^ it is not a c-store and is not affiliated with university dining in any way. the same blind woman is still running it that has run it for at least the last 4 years or so. you can buy both pepsi/coke products there. it is all cash. fruit is also available there; i don't remember it being offered at most c-stores.
7/24/2005 12:44:45 AM
obviously a noob, but for some reason I can post in here. I really like reading all of your favorite memories....where was the Eckerd on Hillsborough? I work at the one in Cameron Village, I didn't realize they had a store across from campus.
7/24/2005 1:28:22 AM
7/24/2005 8:40:57 AM
the Eckerd used to be next to where Papa John's is; Schoolkids moved in there.
7/24/2005 11:07:50 AM
mostly kinko's though
7/24/2005 11:35:22 AM
Yeah and Kinko's used to be over where NY pizza expanded into. But that one is fairly recent. Man NY pizza used to be such a shit hole. You could barely pass someone in that hallway they called their "dining area."
