a guy at chilies said some customers said that gas stations were closing at 8pm every night cuz we were running out. i laughed at him and said no.

I said there were some people with extenuating circumstances.

Being in school in Raleigh and working a real job in Greensboro fits that description. 95% of the people talking about gas are not in the same boat.

Hell, 75% of them probably live within 5 miles of NC State so I don't really see what the big deal is...


Oh yeah it is proven that you use less gas by driving with your windows up and your A/C on than vice versa assuming that you are on a highway.

Actually there they were driving SUVs around a track at 45mph.

The good thing is that I am staying in Burlington and not in school this semester, but come next Spring if things are still like this then I will be screwed.

Its about time we took a look at Europe and started learning from them. Their kicking our ass in alternate energy sources. The EU is funding all kinds of solutions to oil and coal. We need to follow their lead. From the use of mass transit to biomass fuels to wind/solar power. We're just making things harder on ourselves. Its time to stop suckling from the oil whore's tit.

You argue like a child with insults. Coal is not a 100% clean. But why rely on a natural resource which, even though in the short term is highly available, is eventually exaustable? Why not get off our high American horse and wake up to the fact that were being stupid about energy? Why use something thats going to create a energy crises at some point, if not already(oil) and use something renewable. Its selfish and folly to keep diggin holes that we know are going to run dry. Why not push forward alternatives. Our whole national argument against alternative solutions has been cost. When in reality, its profit, not cost we are worried about. I already said, and stand by the fact that the EU is fully funding and is beating the U.S. is alternative solutions. Oh, just to add insult to injury, they do have a stronger base currency value.

Let me get this straight, you wouldn't dig a hole for any resource that could be exhausted? So, should be give up marble counter tops, mining iron ore, using plastics, silicon, graphite, all of it!?!?

Gosh, you are an idiot. Everything we use that is not made out of wood or food is finite, it is just the way the universe works. Using your logic, we should have nothing because anything we could have would be limited.

Your fundamental mistake is you are trying to think too damn far ahead. Just try planning 100 years out or so. Yes, oil is a finite resource. Yes, we cannot go on burning it forever. And when that time comes we'll melt down the cars and make new ones consuming something else. It isn't that complicated, and whatever the fuck you want your future car to run on will not withstand a freaking hurricane.

A hydrogen based economy would be equally vulnerable to hurricanes, as hydrogen plants must be located near the ocean.
