wasn't alpha centauri the last "civ-style" game that sid meirs was actually important to the development of?

Yes it was.I think he was a consultant for the Civ III team but to my knowledge had no direct hand in the development.

damnit, now I've got to try to find my alpha centaur+alien crossfire discs! I should be studying, but my planet-domination craving has returned. damn you all

I remember starting to play Sim City 4, finding out how much shit there was to micro-manage then going back to SC2K

Decent article on CIV IV.sounds like the multiplayer is somewhat different than in the past. The options on what to do when someone drops are actually kind of cool.http://pc.ign.com/articles/650/650805p1.html

DudeChanceWhat the hell are you talking about. How in the hell can you sit there and claim "inability to be able to shift production from one wonder to another in one turn" is a feature when Civ III already didn't let you do that. You had either 1)Took a production hit or 2)It got constructed in the next turn. Now I could be wrong, I haven't played Civ III in three years.Even if I were completely and utterly confusing my spotty memory of Civ III this isn't a very 'major' addition to gameplay. Maybe had started your 'rebuttal' by pointing out that governments as they've existed for three generations of the game got a complete overhaul or the fact that this game was designed with multiplay in mind from the ground up rather then a content patch as was the case with Civ III or Civ II Gold, then you could have gone and scratched a | under 'me' on your Chance-Vs-Tdub stat sheet. Furthermore, none of the features I'm seeing is actually very revolutionary to the genre. Civilization Call to Power had a (very) broken form of Religion; Master of Orion III had interesting form of civics with you actually voting on and suggesting bills; while Stars! had some wicked AI. I won't comment on the AI and diplomacy until I actually play the game but I'm certainly not expecting to be impressed. What I would really like, in this day and age of rediculous computing power, is a photo realistic world and a real-time battle aspect. In fact, you know what would be fantastic? Take Age of Empires III and Civ IV, throw it in the blender, and then mix them together.[Edited on September 15, 2005 at 9:48 PM. Reason : I don't troll when it comes to Civilization. Civ I was the first game I bought. Love the series.]

take the dorkfight to another thread please.....
9/21/2005 8:26:54 PM
Oh fucking please.I called it 3.1 because I don't believe this game brings anything drastically new gameplay wise to the table. If you think the features you and I listed are revolutionary and deserve praise then thats your opinion. There's no 'eductation' going on here when any idiot with a a quarter of a braincell full well knows that there's absolutely no earthbreaking gameplay change between Civ's II III and the upcoming IV.GG ignore the entire paragraph dedicated to why Civ IV isn't anything special, by the way, in which I go into some detail debasing the point I suggested you should make.Furthermore, there's no fucking point to BTTT'ing a thread nearly a week after its pretty much settled. If it takes you that fucking long to come up with reply when your stupid ass is on this website every week then maybe you should stop trying to pick arguments with every single person you cross on the wolf web. I'm done with this bullshit.[Edited on September 21, 2005 at 8:50 PM. Reason : .|.. peace]

on a different note.... i like alpha centauri.... they need to redo that one.... just upgrade the graphics... change up a few of the tech levels and such.... tweak some of the balance algorthyms....

^^ I think that was the most unbalanced and weak rebuttal possible. Congrats on affirming you losing the thread for I think a third time perhaps.Shit man, a full 50% of your post dealt with the time it took me to get back to this thread when I had completely forgotten about it. Thats excellent grounds for claiming victory. You're a joke.
