Any reason why you went with such a tiny cam (other than the other guy's results you mentioned)? I know the mileage is an issue but damn, what a peanut. I'm guessing you'll replace the cam if/when you get the Edelbrock heads. If homeboy ran 12's with his setup (obviously undercammed), I don't see why you couldn't run 11's (mid 11's at that). However, I'm also guessing this is more than just a strip car, so feel free to entertain my cam query.

finally some real shit goin on in the garage, bout time for realnice work man. What kinda gears are in the rear end of that thing?
1/18/2005 2:57:55 PM
No, this is not a monster cam. I prefer my car to idle like a normal automobile- at least as well as it would have run coming off the lot. To awnser your question though, cam choice was limited because I am not spending the $$ for a aftermarket (adjustable) valvetrain. As a matter of fact I could have run more lift with the Edelbrock valvesprings I bought, up to say .520 or maybe a little more but I decided not to have the spring seats trimmed and I am going with stock height springs. If anyone is interested I have a set of Edelbrock valvesprings for sale, never installed, part number #5767. They are drop in replacements for some big fords and are the equipped springs on many of edelbrocks aluminum heads for different makes. These are $92 from edelbrock, make me an offer. The rear gears are 2.73 I believe.

2/4/2005 11:33:29 PM
Rejet time, baby. What carb you running on that fucker?
2/4/2005 11:34:17 PM
jets cant be it, I am running a holley 600 with #67 in it. it was the cam break in and the time spent idling in the garage that killed the mileage I think. might be driving her to danville tomorrow.
2/4/2005 11:35:52 PM
0-1850 w/ vac secondaries, no?67 really ain't that much jet for something that big. Must have been the break-in time and tinker time. But I ain't into holley's...Don't laugh, but I would want a Carter AFB or *GASP* a QuadraBog...much more tuneable for a wide range of power.
2/4/2005 11:38:36 PM
yeah the carb isnt that big, and the jets arent big at all. Ill probably wait till warmer weather to re-jet it. it is a vac. secondary carb though. im not too worried about beating on this thing too hard since the transmission is a stock (although recently rebuilt) TH350.
2/4/2005 11:43:03 PM
^^exactly... give me a carter or an edelbrock style any day over a damn holley. they're nice for the track, but screw one on a driver. i like a q-jet too, they just get a bad rep. from dumbasses that don't have clue how to tune one.

Damn man I hate to hear that. Mine lost oil pressure last week . Damn tractor motors. Catch up with me so we can compare notes. Dave
2/7/2005 11:07:14 PM
yeah, well. I am pretty disapointed that I paid to have the short block professionally assembled and this happened but who knows. maybe I have a bad piston or something that isnt his fault. we will have to wait and see. I should have the motor back out this evening and back to the shop tomorrow AM. I am very curious to see how he handles this.[Edited on February 8, 2005 at 2:25 PM. Reason : mini starter came today. ]
2/8/2005 2:24:09 PM
At best he should eat the labor and supply parts @ cost. Still sucks that you have to pull it again. Mine has had 3 motors in the last 2500 miles.............Your not alone Just curious why did you pull the front end off to install it last time? Need to borrow a hoist? Later Dave
2/8/2005 7:48:05 PM
so what exactly happened?
