i think it was a good idea callip

NO.DO NOT even think about doing this. This is the first step into the oblivion that is wasted bandwidth. I'd wager to say that 80% of the posts on this board are one line or less. You know how much precious space and time that would waste having to display STUPID avatar images? Its horrible. Next thing you know, people will want to have automatic signatures and stupid morons will have 50 line signatures of the lyrics to their favorite song below their post that says "heh, you're such a funny man!"I've seen it on other message boards, and its horrible.
9/13/2001 2:34:52 PM
didn't we already try this a while back? people went signature crazy and it sucked.
9/13/2001 2:39:37 PM
Maugan: agreed 100%Point is there are just too many one-liners to justify it. Somebody started the graphical signature thing about a year ago...but died out because it sucked

we arent talking about sigs here guys.... personal icons on the left side.. with a switch in preferences to cut it on and off so you dont have to see them..... the premium users are the only ones who can HAVE a personal icon... this way you could set ground rules as being a premium user and using this option - meaning if somebody found a way to abuse it you could take the privlage away..... also these would be small as a IM buddy icon - not much load time.. and once its loaded once its in cache and can be reloaded off your HD....
9/13/2001 4:17:16 PM
yeah... listen to maugan!they had this "back in the day"... but I think one of the other reasons it was stopped cuz it took forever for some threads to load w/ everyone's "signature"
9/13/2001 4:29:47 PM
Everybody who wants to see what were' talking about go here: http://forums.off-topic.net These are NOT signatures, and they could be turned on and off by the user so if they are on a dialup, it wouldn't take 8 years to load a thread.J

9/13/2001 5:00:58 PM
yet we are not talking about signatures....Think about BUDDY ICONS for AIM....It would be VERY similar
9/13/2001 5:24:40 PM
I'm guessing mine would have to look something like this...
9/13/2001 5:57:43 PM
mdozer: and what purpose to buddy icons serve??? none. Absolutely none. They waste bandwidth. Its quite moronic honestly. Sure their cute... sometimes original... but then you get people who find one icon funny and amusing, then you get 30 people using the same goddamned icon. Its stupid. My cable modem has better things to download than people's useless shit.
9/13/2001 5:59:37 PM
if your bitching... you dont see my intended goal... either that, or your bitching for the sake of bitching... which happens a lot on here.
9/13/2001 8:26:25 PM
I could see someone with a poor connection not wanting to see something like this happen...
9/13/2001 8:29:13 PM
Maugan... its been said.. many times... you can turn the feature off...
9/13/2001 8:29:44 PM
HEY JOE
9/13/2001 8:30:33 PM
and PEOPLE
9/13/2001 8:31:54 PM
Maugan.. it serves a damn good purpose... getting people to buy the premium service... if bandwith to cost balances to a gain.. then why the hell not?[Edited on September 13, 2001 at 8:41 PM. Reason : df]

It's a nice idea, but I don't see it happening. Here's several reasons:
9/13/2001 8:46:43 PM
I know what kay-lip is trying to say...but i like hearing maugan talk like that...it's sooooooooooooooo cute.
9/13/2001 8:49:57 PM
Joe... I was just trying to find a way to make it more personal yes.. but just that so more people would get the premium, and more people might register... just trying to come up with an idea that would make the WW "cooler" (bad word to use, but o well)
9/13/2001 8:53:01 PM
i want this put under my name-------->
9/14/2001 4:27:05 PM

9/14/2001 5:46:05 PM

9/14/2001 5:47:47 PM
I agree with Joe. This site looks hella phat because its clean and well organized.
9/14/2001 5:53:44 PM
i dig the minimalist look.
9/14/2001 5:55:13 PM
hey XL-where you wearing black shorts and a blue XL hat backwards today?
9/14/2001 6:01:06 PM
I just want to reitterate.. I dont differ in opinion from you guys ^ about this.. I just think a lot more premiums and new people would be added...
9/14/2001 6:01:36 PM
i agree with callip, it would be more motivation for users to pay for a premium subscription
9/14/2001 6:02:28 PM
minimalist will win
9/14/2001 6:28:27 PM

5/25/2013 3:21:02 AM
Legitimate concern about modem users ITT.
5/25/2013 9:40:55 AM
The modem user comment made me have a flash back to my AOL days.
