"Maybe the Wolfpack wouldn't be 6-4 with no quality wins if it didn't have an unfortunate injury to Tracy Smith. It's an obvious blow to their team. But it's been made out like State is incapable of doing anything without Smith in the lineup. He's an important player, but if not having Smith for a few games meant the Wolfpack wouldn't win a single quality game without him, then they weren't that good to begin with.

This team barely beat Tennessee Tech by double-figures. I saw this team putz its way to a 10 point home win over Fairleigh Dickinson. Trailing Youngstown State by nearly 20 points at any point is completely embarrassing. Duke's without one of its most important player and they're still able to beat the patsies by 30 or 40 points. State only has one 20 point win all season.

And Sidney Lowe was right in the offseason when he kept trying to bring the fanbase down to earth after the initial excitement of the recruiting class. From what we've seen on the court so far, that hype was way overblown. "

It's not just losing to good teams. It's under performing with the talent we have. It's the fact that we are so thin for big men, that one good player ruins our whole fucking scheme. It's the inability to run an efficient offense with good players. It's the fact that he comes out and says in a post-game interview that overall, he was happy how we played in the first half. It's about benching your best rebounder for nearly the last 10 minutes of the game. It's about not effectively adjusting on defense.

It's about getting the same results no matter who the players are on the court.

How in the hell is a comparison to d00k relevant to this conversation? Duke basically added a superstar to a national championship team who lost two role players and brought back their 3 stars. What the fuck. We had one star, brought in 3 freshman to an otherwise shitty team, and lost the one star to injury. Once again...what the fuck.

Every single team we lost to so far would be the 2nd best team in the acc for gods sake.

Perhaps playing all these tough teams will have us ready for conference play.

8-8 is going to be damn tough to pull off if tracy isn't close to 100% but we can do it.

If we don't have tracy it likely can't be done, but why are you blaming sidney for tracys knee injury? What did he do to cause our best player to get hurt?

Do you realize we are competing basically without a junior and senior class due to defections and injuries? Our sophs and freshman are so fucking good that we're still in the mix anyway.

What the fuck is wrong with letting them become juniors and seniors? Why can't you let sid have a chance to prove himself?

Our offensive sets have always looked sharp under sidney sans the season atsur was out.

Do you forget us torching unc and duke once apiece when they were each #1 in the nation? Have you forgotten two clutch acc tourney runs? Have you not noticed us competing this year with an inferior lineup against top notch competition?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills I bet most of yoù don't even watch these games. How did you not see painter and wood getting burnt yesterday? How did you not see leslie go 1-14?

Don't you think that was a bigger problem that sidneys substitutions??

You guys aren't even using fucking logic, you bitch about sidneys offense despite the fact its worked well for most of the time he's been here while using inferior talent. Just shut up!

Nobody in their right mind should want Lowe to coach this team if we finish the same way we have the last 4 seasons. That said, shut the fuck up and let the season play out. We've lost to 4 good teams without our best player, and we haven't started the ACC schedule. You people are just fucking ignorant.
"

Can't be repeated enough.
WRAL Article: I never thought state was talented enough to absorb the loss of our best player and the cornerstone of our offense and be in contention for the ACC. People who did most likely think we should have Howell and Leslie playing at the same time.

^^^see the problem with that quote you are mindlessly repeating is that a)people are pissed about EVERY loss because we haven't beaten any good teams and are sleepwalking our way through games we should win by 30+ points and b)plenty of people are arguing that we should keep Lowe around even if we miss the tournament.

You guys fail to see the fact that Sid KEEPS people like Painter in the position to keep getting burned on D. The first few times, it's on the player. After that, the coach has to adjust. He couldn't adjust the defense to save his life. He tried man and zone, and we had the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. That you should tell you that something is wrong. Are you going to blame an entire defense on 5 different individuals, or the guy coaching that defense?

And he benches our top scorer because of turnovers, rather than keeping him in the game, and finding ways to get him active off the ball. But that won't work, because Sid's offense this year is two people dribble/pass up top, other's stand around inactive, and occasionally set a shitty screen. For some reason, all of our guys also lack the fundamental ability to set an effective screen. But that's not the coaches fault...

Here is how I see it. Our losses have been very close. You give us our best fucking player and the focal point of our offense and very likely we would be a 1 or 2 loss team.

^x5 I'll say that.

I don't see a reason to give Lowe the boot unless we have a quasi-decent coach in mind that might consider coaching here.

I don't think many capable coaches want anything to do with NCSU currently

Hey eat a dick you faggots

We ranked 30th in the nation in offense in 2009 and 46th in the nation in offense in 2007.

Yes we sucked last year but that's because we had god awful offensive players like mays, degand, cj williams, and josh davis.

Oh and yes we struggles in 2008, that was an all around poor performance by sidney and the team and that's why this thread got created.

Look who fucking created this thread you dolts, it was me. And all of you dumbfucks criticized me for not knowing what I was talking about, read page 1. I was right then that we were going to suck that season and I'm right now that we would be good this season with lowe.

Does it strike anyone as odd that even though I'm always the one using logic and saying correct things, that the tide is always against me with a swarm of redneck fury spouting off random bullshit?

Just shut up we've all had enough. Support the team, use logic, or shut the fuck up.

adder, I think we see so many people coming out after the Arizona game because before that game, you could say "well, we won the ones we were supposed to, and lost the one's we were supposed to". The Arizona game easily could have been ours, with or without Tracy. That, combined with our obvious wins becoming less and less satisfying. Youngstown State was a horrendous win, USC Upstate was ok, but we were still even with them for a quarter of the game, and a 10 point win over Farleigh-Dickinson wasn't what people had in mind.

If we were smashing everyone by 20, and then playing close games in the other 4, the complaining would probably die down a bit. Then, if we not only smashed everyone by 20, but won in the Arizona game by looking like a team that had a plan, I'm willing to bet that at least 50% of the people here wouldn't be talking about specifics on a potential new coach (myself included). I've backed Sid very strongly up until the Arizona game. Now, I can't really justify backing him at all, but I won't say that we do anything to him until the season plays out.

17 point win against Youngstown state. Not terrible. first half was TERRIBLE but overall game was won by a more than comfortable margin. If we had our best fucking player at this point I think most people would agree that we could easily be a 2 loss team. The last time we had a returning senior who was projected to have as much impact and possibly be an NBA player was Julius Hodge. Anyone care to predict how the beginning of that season would have gone without him? Imagine our football team without Irving this year. Just chill until we get Smith back. If the product doesn't improve with a healthy Smith then and only then is it time to freak out.

We beat Tennessee Tech by 13 (first game of the season), ECU by 20, George Mason by 13, FDU by 10 (), Upstate by 19, YSU by 17

That's pretty close to beating everyone by 20

Georgetown was close until late, Wisconsin was Wisconsin, Syracuse was close, and Arizona was close the entire game

Right. It's easy to look at the final scores of the game, and say "close" or "not close", but that doesn't take in to consideration how the games played out, or how the team looked.

Youngstown State was an ugly win no matter which way you slice it. There is absolutely ZERO reason to not play two complete halves against a team like that. A 17 point win is disappointing, because if that was anyone other than a cupcake team (say, a low level conference opponent), the game would have been close in the closing minutes.

Georgetown was NOT close until late. Everything fell apart within minutes of the second half. Terrible shots being taken, and not much being done to reign them in. Like the Arizona game, it was fast paced, and stops on defense were nearly non-existent. We played one half of basketball that game.

Wisconsin was...well, let's not even go there. Awful on everybody's part.

Syracuse was a close, winnable game, and there wasn't much Sid did wrong in that game, imo. I thought Javi was in for a little too long in the second half, but I'm not convinced that was a game changer or anything.

We made a half-hearted run at closing a 12 point deficit, you can call it close if you want to but I had no doubt we were going to lose that game after the Derrick Williams dunk with like 9 minutes left. Also us hanging with Georgetown for a half in no way makes it a close game.

this is pretty interesting.

it's the first time in years i've had an indifferent opinion about a coach of a program i care so much about. i can read all of these posts, from both sides, and be interested, but not angry at all.

it's because i've always supported sidney lowe, but now these losses are making it tougher. but i'm still reserving judgment until tracy's back. i take solace in the fact that if we continue to suck upon his return, debbie will pull the trigger. and she seems competent enough to land a good coach. and if we do make the tourney with tracy's help, then everyone will be happy (except for boozie and other extremists).

so it's a win-win for pack fans like me.

(of course, this all assumes debbie is as competent as i think)

i mean its pretty simple

lowe's upside is paul hewitt (still hasnt even hit that low bar), downside is bob wade (hickson year) and realistic outcome is pete gillen

it should be noted that all of the above shitty coaches made the ncaa tournament at least once in the acc, and we still havent

Because we're ranked 72nd in the nation without our all american pf which means we'd be top 40 with him.

Do you guys really not think tracy would make us 8-10 pts better offensively and 2-4 pts better defensively per game?

Do you think that would have any impact on our results?

If a skilled post player were taking shots and drawing double teams instead of harrow and leslie missing every shot? That would help right?

Tracy smith setting up the offense instead of lorenzo brown doing it and committting turnovers. That would help right?

You guys are the worst you wanted tracy to get hurt so sid would get fired just so you could say I knew we wouldn't be good this year.

Do you realize you were wrong now? And that we would be good with tracy?

Is that not apparent to all of you?
