+1 apron
1/21/2011 11:59:34 AM
tote and apron would be easier, as you won't have to worry about sizing (I am guessing the apron is more of a S-M-L deal). Even off of patterns, sizing pants to fit you just right might not be the best first project.[If the pants are the skin-hugging yoga pants, that is. If they are just loose, straight leg, casual cotton pants, then it'd be simple enough.][Edited on January 21, 2011 at 12:03 PM. Reason : []]

+1 for tote or apron. They are classic newb projects for a reason.
1/21/2011 12:02:26 PM
Unless you cook a lot AND use an apron while cooking, you should do a tote. You'll probably get more use out of it.

ughhh these kate spade sunglasses are on sale on ruelala for like $60. i seriously want but i'm an irresponsible sunglasses owner so i can't have them [Edited on January 23, 2011 at 8:37 PM. Reason : yikes.]
1/23/2011 8:36:55 PM
Those are super cute. Tj Maxx has Kate Spade sunglasses sometimes.
1/23/2011 8:38:33 PM
ohhh good to know! i can better afford those prices i suck at sunglasses. both designer pairs i've had i've managed to lose or break. and i've broken or lost countless cheap target pairs. i'm the worst with them.
1/23/2011 8:41:45 PM
I'm with you on that one. I only buy the cheap $10 sunglasses from Target because I lose or break sunglasses too easily.

anyone have a good dermatologist? preferably female, but doesn't have to be cause its for my arm. i saw a doctor (who went to ncsu) when i was in HS. can't remember his name but worked at a dermatology place off lake boone by rex hospital. i'm really really really scared to go, but need to because i have not one but 3 odd shaped, raised, scabby moles. sigh. plus, i haven't been in years and have fair skin, lots of freckles and moles so...probably ought to get the rest of me checked out while i'm there.

I fell in love with those aprons Sam posted a while back and asked my parents for one for Christmas. We finally got to actually have our Christmas this weekend and I got this one My mom also gave me some certificates to DSW because I had told her I wanted a pair of brown boots. I figured for sure they would have a simple pair of knee-high dark brown leather boots, but the only ones they had were too big for me in the smallest size they made. So I found these on the clearance rack. Normally I am pretty conservative with my shoes and stay with simple ones in black/brown or otherwise sort of boring. But for some reason I really liked these. Right now I probably only have the courage to wear them under jeans/pants though. What do y'all think? If I wear these with a skirt will I look like an '80s hooker? After DSW we went by a thrift store to poke around and kill some time. I walked by the shoe rack and saw a pair of brown boots that was exactly what I had been looking for. I didn't get my hopes up because I figured there was no way they would be in my size. But they were, and they fit perfectly, and are in wonderful condition. They are Nine West, and were $4.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that apron!and I also think the darker color boots are amazing! Good find. I don't think you would look like Vivian from pretty woman not unless you were wearing
1/24/2011 9:56:50 AM
jeez maya is adorable
1/24/2011 10:01:37 AM
Skwink, you will straight up love that apron... I think my favorite thing is that the fabric doesn't absorb stuff right away so its easy to brush a lot of stuff off and/or wash it without it getting stained

scabby moles that are multiplying are probably warts, not moles.
1/24/2011 12:59:55 PM
I dont have any scabby ones but I do have DARK ones (one in my armpit? ) and jagged edges ones but last time I went they checked out.
1/24/2011 1:02:08 PM
^^ they aren't multiplying though. i've had them a long time and they used to look like normal moles. just been neglecting my health and whatnot. probably not a good idea, but you know. hopefully these check out. maybe they are just warts, but i doubt it since they've always been there.justtttt a little worrisome. but i have freckles and lots of moles anyway and haven't been to a dermatologist in probably 10 years so probably good to go anyway. better safe than sorry i guess.thanks blue ridge derm accepts my insurance so i'll try calling them! i used to go to dermatology pros (eric challgran...but only went once so its not like i have attachment to that place, plus i went for acne like 10 years ago so...yea, i just want someone good)![Edited on January 24, 2011 at 2:56 PM. Ladies, I have a bit of a predicament. I'm going on the first vacation with the boyfriend and I'm VERY limited as to what I can pack. Could def use some advice on how to pack smart, versatile items that can last the entire weekend in Delray Beach, Florida. My workout clothing will take up a bit of room. I get one small duffle bag. Here's what I need:Daytime AttireHe's playing a tennis tournament, so I need clothing that will be comfortable yet cute for 12 hours outside in 70-degree weatherEvening/Date AttireWe'll go out in downtown Delray or Boca and I definitely want to look sexy, yet casual for date nights since this is our first vaca.Meet The Folks AttireThis is the most difficult part. I haven't met a bf's parents in probably 5 years. I want to look nice, tasteful, cute and age-appropriate (I'm 27 ... he's 28). We'll likely meet at the tournament and possibly do dinner or just hang out at his house. What's good to wear when meeting parents? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
1/25/2011 9:53:34 AM
k...i got them...i'll let you know how they turn out...
1/25/2011 10:04:35 AM
^^ You're only there for the weekend? Two pants, two shirts, one dress, bra, panties, shoes that will match all those outfits, BOOM! done Though you probably shouldn't take advice from me. When I rent backpacking around SE Asia for 25 days all I packed was a backpack this big:Everyone was all in my group when I showed up but I got the last laugh when everyone else was constantly bitching about dragging around their suitcases and one guy's luggage got lost on the flight from Hue to Ho Chi Minh
1/25/2011 10:54:29 AM
^ thx! I backpacked costa rica for 2 wks with a bag like that. It rocked, but I get a smidge more packing space this time and I will use it bc Delray and Boca Raton are a bit more fashionable/formal. And it's a five-day, four-night extended weekend.Mostly concerned about looking nice when meeting the parents.
1/25/2011 11:18:07 AM
if its going to be warm, little dresses are your friend. they squeeze down really small. just pick one with slightly more coverage for the day you meet the parents. I'd pick one pair of nice shoes that can go with all the "dressy" outfits, then bring a couple of tees and shorts and some more casual shoes. maybe sneaks and a track suit if you're going to try to get in a run or two
1/25/2011 11:44:08 AM
^^ ahh yeah if it's 5 days you might need more clothes Today I have to pick out my pattern for my sewing class. I decided to go with a supermarket tote since it will be quick and easy and I can move on to something else by the next class.Which one do you guys like the most?http://butterick.mccall.com/b5338-products-9451.php?page_id=380http://www.simplicity.com/p-1751-its-so-easy-bags.aspxhttp://www.simplicity.com/p-5004-its-so-easy-shopping-totes.aspx
1/25/2011 11:53:01 AM
well i fucking LOVE that orange and brown poppy print. but those bags at the bottom are the coolest. you probably don't really need the pattern for the tote in the middle. just slap some trapezoids together and attach that ish to a little rectangle of strong material for the bottom. use the same ones to line it. the straps are rectangles folded over.
1/25/2011 12:37:15 PM
1/25/2011 1:06:57 PM
^^^ Agreed with the comment on the orange and brown poppy print. That's super cute!^ Alright ... time to raid the dress closets. My roomie and I are the same size, so we throw all of our dresses into a couple of closets in our wine room and just share everything. A dress is prob best for meeting the rents.Maybe this dress for meeting the folks? Or the same dress in solid green? I never know what type of jacket to pair with a maxi dress bc it ends up being so much fabric and you can look completely shapeless with the wrong top. Maybe a shrug or cardigan?
1/25/2011 1:21:54 PM
I'd do the solid dress with something cropped
1/25/2011 1:30:53 PM
1/25/2011 1:33:16 PM
do people have cropped and loose jackets? ick[Edited on January 25, 2011 at 1:35 PM. Reason : o]
1/25/2011 1:35:44 PM
I don't have a cropped jacket, but prob want to invest in one ... seems like a versatile wardrobe staple.
1/25/2011 1:40:23 PM
1/25/2011 1:58:37 PM
agreed on the cropped jacket or shrug. i have a black short sleeve shrug i wear with my maxi dresses. i think that would work well!
