does anyone have any recommendations to fix an iPhone 4 cracked front screen? it's just the glass, the LCD looks okay.its actually just a fracture crack in the glass below the LCD screen in the corner.any ideas? people around Raleigh who replace them for a decent price?

Sword and Sworcery EP is probably the best thing ever made ever--or at least the best art game since Braid.

^^^^my cousin shattered the _back_ glass on his iphone, and the apple store people replaced it for $30. Not sure what they'll charge for the front, but i imagine that they can do it.
4/26/2011 11:32:27 AM
The LCD/front glass is all one assembly on the iPhone 4, so unfortunately you can't replace the glass without replacing the entire display. See step 22. http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone-4-Teardown/3130/1A cursory look on Google has 3rd party repairs with OEM screens around $70.

i'm having internet speed problems with my 3gs. on the 4 available iphone 3gs we have here at work, 3 are running 4.3.1 & one (mine) is 4.3.2.my brother & i are getting about 0.6-1mbps down, 0.3-0.6 up, ping around 150.the other 2 iphones are getting 3.5mbps down, 0.7 up, ping 95.we have one guy with a droid jumbotron & he's getting the same as the last 2 iphones.we pay for 5 down & 0.75 up. the desktops directly connected are showing those speeds.wtf is going on here? mine is consistently getting the lowest test results (brother's are slightly better). we've run the tests repeatedly: all at the same time, separately, all in different cubicles, & right smack next to the router. i cleared out everything in the quick switch bar thingy & also did a soft reset. Re-read it, that does seem a little odd that you would be getting 1/6th the speed. Try renewing the lease for your wifi netweork on all the iPhones and try again.[Edited on April 26, 2011 at 5:34 PM. Reason : Reading fail]
4/26/2011 5:29:23 PM
i'll try that at work. i just ran speed test with my home network. i pay for 10 down, 1 up. macbook air, sitting in the same chair, got 10.45 down, 1.06 up, & 20ms. iphone got 2.25 down, 0.99 up, & 99ms.chris just ran it on his iphone 4. he got 9.4 down, 1.01 up, & 97ms.WTF [Edited on April 26, 2011 at 8:05 PM. 4/27/2011 3:06:32 PM
would the white iphone have better resale value later this year when 5 comes out?
4/27/2011 8:04:47 PM
i wouldn't get your hopes up; it won't be a rare item or anything like that
4/27/2011 8:34:04 PM
White iPhone 4? Fuuuuuuuuck.
4/27/2011 10:14:39 PM
so what do you guys think the likelihood of a june iphone 5 release is? i've read a bunch of stuff online about it but was looking for your opinion.
4/28/2011 9:00:27 AM
Everything I've seen points to September or later.
4/28/2011 9:26:20 AM
^ There was plenty of speculation for both...it's just not newsworthy or attention-grabbing when someone speculates that "Yep, it should arrive at the usual time."I think that since they just released the white iPhone 4, though, we can probably rule out the 5 in June. That kind of puts me in a quandary. I need a new phone--my 3GS is hanging by a thread and has some problems. I don't really want a 4, as it's a year-old design of a product that gets updated pretty much yearly. On the other hand, I don't really want to wait until the fall for a new phone.I wonder how much I'd be able to sell an iPhone 4 for once the 5 comes out? Maybe I could get the 4 as an upgrade now, then sell it and buy a 5 outright.
4/28/2011 2:59:57 PM
i'm in the same situation, but add switching carriers to it. our at&t contract is up june 26 & we will definitely switch to verizon. there are just too many areas out this way with a complete lack of any coverage by at&t. we have 7 iphones on at&t now, & our construction admin guy is on verizon w/ a bb. all of us are extremely anxious to get new phones, me especially since all my slow internet issues lately. do we jump ship in june & get iphone4s at verizon...or hold out an additional 3-4 painful months for a newer phones that's rumored to be released in september (who knows? could be longer).ugh
4/28/2011 4:28:22 PM
I'd wait Verizon 3g is slow as balls.
4/28/2011 4:34:38 PM
who bought a white iphone
4/28/2011 4:47:02 PM
^^out here it's not, when compared to at&t 3g. plus some coverage >>>>>> no coverage at all. [Edited on April 28, 2011 at 5:00 PM. Reason : ]

4/28/2011 5:22:04 PM
no the problem isn't a lack of signal in one place (house or business), it's lack of signal across almost entire counties in the NE part of NC. we have projects that have to be checked on weekly & we need to be able to make calls/access data while out there. correct me if i'm wrong, but those microcells are meant to be installed in a stationary location.

Good point. I thought they had made that change already. Thanks for the heads up.

Regarding all the anxious iphone 5 posts - SIGNED! Didn't an NCSU grad blow the iPhone 4 release/specs. Surely, one of you nerds on this site knows him.....and can ask him? Although most of you whiners have a 3gs, my 3g the other day read "no sim card" till I hard restarted it Question though: If I were to back up my iphone and hit the restore tool. Will all the media I HAD on my phone be placed back on my phone? In the warning message it says contacts, text messages, etc. but nothing about pictures, music, email accounts....do you think itd make it any faster to restore my 3 year old iphone 3g?
5/3/2011 8:19:15 PM
i'm already eligible for a new upgrade so i'm just going to wait until either something happens to one of our phones or they announce the unlimited plan is going away by xx/xx/xxxx date in which case i'd reup with whatever's best at the timealso if the new iphone isn't LTE it will be a shame, it's my #1 consideration atm
5/3/2011 8:38:14 PM
http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/apple_please_hire_this_man_and_implement_his_ios_n.phpI'd love to see something like this in iOS 5.
5/4/2011 3:10:45 PM
yeah that's pretty usable. 10/10
5/4/2011 3:15:21 PM
Well, I caved and just picked up an iPhone 4...white, 16gb
5/4/2011 7:43:16 PM
From what I recall, Apple hired the Palm Pre's notification guy a while back... i hope very soon something comes out of this.Apple needs better notifications and voice-to-text to continue to eclipse Android.
5/4/2011 8:00:39 PM
Duke, well done. Isn't it SO much better than a 3GS? I've learned my lesson, I pick the new ones up @launch! RE: 4 vs. 3GS, far superior camera/battery life, superior display/speed. I do care about the phone a whole lot more knowing a replacement would cost me $600 though. :/
5/4/2011 8:13:50 PM
^^ why now??
5/4/2011 8:13:52 PM
^^ Only used it a little so far, and I don't have all my old stuff transfered to it (my only computer at the moment runs Ubuntu, which means I don't have iTunes). I like it so far, though.^ I needed a new phone badly...the earpiece in my 3GS was totally tits-up, and the touch-response of the screen was very intermittant. I had held out for a couple of months, waiting on the iPhone 5, but when it became apparent that there would be a long time to wait, I decided to (a) go ahead and get the best of what's available right now, and (b) start the clock ticking on a new contract._______________________________________________Take this for what it's worth: one of the employees at the Apple store told me that they were told by Apple that the next iPhone would come no earlier than September.
5/4/2011 8:56:11 PM
well my 3gs is done. It was just sitting on my desk and started looping through the apple logo boot screen. I managed to get it into recovery mode and went to restore it.During restore is disconnects multipe times and I get "error 1611". I've tried different USB ports, uninstalling everything apple and reinstalling, I've even tried another computer.Looks like its off the apple store tomorrow. Do i have to make an appointment or can i just walk in there?
5/6/2011 1:05:30 PM
You could get lucky, but every time I've ever just popped into an Apple store for a quick question, they've always told me that I needed an appointment. And a full diagnostic of your phone isn't gonna be quick. I'd make an appointment.
5/6/2011 2:12:56 PM
yeah made an appointment yesterday and went in there today. They couldn't figure out what was up with it and the guy joked that it could have been struck by lightning. He quickly gave me a new/refurb 3GS and sent me on my way. He said i had about 40 days left on my warranty on the phone and suggested i get apple care in the future which i may do.+1 apple for the quick service and support.[Edited on May 7, 2011 at 9:42 PM. What's your real belief in the delay of the iphone5? Do you think the Earthquake messed up production? Do you think they just couldn't get enough tech into the phone in time? The motorola avix (?) is a pretty sweet deal. With this being their prime selling product, what's the wait?!
5/7/2011 10:22:47 PM
I mean...the iPhone5 isn't delayed per se. Apple has never committed to releasing a new iPhone every Summer, it's just how they've operated for the last 4 years. The iPhone4 is still selling well, they just released it on VZW a few months ago which sold quite a few units, the white version added a spike to the sales charts also, there's really no reason to release a new phone just because.]
5/7/2011 11:49:17 PM
5/8/2011 1:48:06 PM
price quotes? since when does apple deal on prices in any way? it's pretty much "the price is the price is the price" from what I've seen.
5/9/2011 10:37:11 PM
They don't.It's just a way for them to have a million people in the store who can't do anything except tell you about how great the products are.
5/9/2011 10:41:23 PM
i have been in an apple store once...i don't really see what's the point. Their stuff is the same price at most anywhere it's sold...I don't know why you wouldn't just order it online and at least dodge the sales tax.
5/9/2011 11:01:41 PM
You still have to pay sales tax when you buy stuff from apple.com. Although, you do get the option of buying refurb units online, which has always worked out pretty well from what I've seen and heard. ]
5/9/2011 11:21:28 PM
The only times I've been in an Apple store were A)To have my iphone looked at by the genius bar or B) to check out a new product (iPad) that just came out and I hadn't played with yetBut damn if that store isn't always packed
5/10/2011 1:03:01 AM
i avoid the apple store if possible. it smells like sweaty homeless teenagers.
5/10/2011 10:35:59 AM
there is a midget that works at the apple store now.
