^^ the only thing that would seemingly complete the acts in this side-show level circus would be for those morons who are side-shows all by themselves to get involved over at the public ivy.

Hope we hit 200 pages before the NCAA Ruling. Then 100 more pages of celebration of the hammer coming down.

Many people: "We keep hearing that things look worse than they really are, and that 'one bad apple ruins the bunch,' but it's starting to look like the whole barrel of apples is rotten."

UNC lunatic fringe: "No. This latest incident is isolated, just like all the other isolated incidents. This barrel of apples contains only the finest, delicious and perfect apples. There are just dozens and dozens of individually bad apples in the barrel."

So back in the day FSU was known as Free Shoes U. I know the letters don't match. But how's about Free Grade U for unc-ch. Or maybe someone more creative can come up with something better.

Didn't know where else to put this, but TJ Yates went 6/13 for 77 yards with an INT and a lost fumble last night for the Texans. A whopping 33.2 QB rating.

That's not a horrible preseason outing for a rookie non-star QB. If he works hard I think he could become a half decent roll player QB (Journeyman).

I'd tend to agree in most preseason games, but this was the final preseason game where he's going up against 2nd and 3rd stringers. Take a look at Tolzien's stats last night, for instance. I don't mean to imply that he won't have any success, i agree he could be a reasonable backup one day, but it's still fun to watch any UNC player or fan struggle

Quote :
"Cohen speculated that Floyd's present issue could be related to his recruitment by North Carolina, which was recently under NCAA investigation. The Tar Heels fired head coach Butch Davis this past summer amid allegations of improper benefits and academic misconduct. UNC defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator John Blake, who resigned in September 2010, had forged a close relationship with Floyd.

"(Blake) and I have a great relationship," Floyd told Scout.com of his recruitment in January 2009. "We talk on a daily basis."

In its investigation, the NCAA said Blake took money to steer players to close friend and NFL agent Gary Wichard.

"It's sad," Cohen said. "I tried to warn him about people. It's a whirlwind for kids. It's a whirlwind for a coach.

"I didn't really know (Blake) that well. When he came to recruit Sharrif he didn't spend much time with me for whatever reason. Other coaches that came — Florida coaches, Ohio State coaches, South Carolina coaches, Penn State coaches, USC coaches — all came first class. It was a great experience for Sharrif and for me."

Floyd chose to sign with Florida over Ohio State and North Carolina. He came to UF rated the No. 4 prospect in the nation by Rivals.com. As a true freshman in 2010, Floyd played in all 13 games, started two and was named to the coaches' Freshman All-SEC team."

There's an old premium article on IC about him, and it has this as the teaser line: "After somewhat falling behind, North Carolina was recently granted an official visit by Sharrif Floyd."

righttt.

Maybe we don't need Marvin to spill the beans, come on Shariff, do what's right baby

What's funny is. Their whole argument was "we are being more complicit than any other school ever under NCAA investigation". Now it's. "Thorp is being so complicit he must be lying!!!"

i wouldn't get all hot and bothered about the agent teaching the class thing. it looks way worse than it actually is, considering that the agent has PhD in the material he was teaching and had taught the very same class before he became an agent.

I think they might be investigating the former Swahili Pres, now still a teacher. Tough to go back at recruiting when Blake and Butch are gone. Although I'm sure they can interview current players...I think this may be more academic.

^4 but why do you need to make $5k in 5 weeks to teach a class that is known for having athletes when you just represented a pro athlete that signed a $90M+ deal. Marketing himself Swahili style bro

1) because he enjoys fucking teaching. which is why he was a teacher before he became an agent
2) check you facts about a "known athlete's course." there was only one athlete in that course when he taught it.

you know, some people actually like to teach.

but the problem may be him taking unc players as clients(quinn), even if they aren't his students. it's not very professional and he shouldn't have done it.

1. He liked teaching so much he quit teaching?

2. There was only one athlete in his class because the upper-ups at UNC found out and told everyone not to take it. I think it's a fair assessment to say that a lot of UNC's athletes were taking courses in the major, and it was possible that a lot would have signed up for a summer session course in whatever garbage class it was if it had stayed quiet.

take that up with him. IIRC, the article on the previous page said that he enjoyed teaching but also wanted to "help these young men stay away from people who wanted to use them" or something like that.(i imagine the money doesn't hurt, either, lol) But, also according to that article, he teaches a class like this pretty much every summer, so it does sound like he likes teaching.

Quote :
"but the problem may be him taking unc players as clients(quinn), even if they aren't his students."

Quinn had left the university before Carey started teaching the summer course.

Quote :
"There was only one athlete in his class because the upper-ups at UNC found out and told everyone not to take it."

which, frankly, looks very good for UNC. They were smart enough to say "we don't want our athletes having contact with this guy," and that was the right thing to do.

I like it when UNC does dumb stuff, and I want to nail them on every single thing possible. But this issue, as bad as looks, isn't all that. He told them he was an agent when they hired him, he was perfectly qualified for the position, so much so that he actually had it in the past before becoming an agent. The university steered athletes away from his class section to avoid any troubles. It was a bad idea, given their current situation, but it simply isn't a big deal.

^He didn't teach a class every summer, but he did teach Intro to Psychology at Texas Southern for several years. I didn't read the whole article apparently.

Btw,

http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=921059

Speaking of not reading the whole article apparently,

Quote :
"At the time Carey taught the UNC class, he said Quinn's girlfriend and business manager was questioning Carey's ability to represent Quinn. Quinn and his girlfriend were living in Chapel Hill during the time Carey was teaching the class."

And my point wasn't that is was good for UNC Administration to instruct UNC students not to take a UNC professor's class, it's that he got hired on the sly to teach a course that it appears is usually taken by athletes.

Speaking of not reading the whole article apparently again;
Quote :
"
UNC-CH's dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Karen Gil, who oversees Nyang'oro and approved Carey's hire, said she did not know he was a sports agent.

"In hindsight," she said in an email message, "it would have been better to know." She did not make herself available for an interview and did not respond to further questions about the hire.
"

Later in the article she says he did tell the Athletic Department that he was teaching the class, which is kinda confusing seeing as she also said she didn't know he was an agent.
