any word on when 4.4 is getting pushed out? i havent seen any dates in these articles.
10/31/2013 3:00:14 PM
I haven't read any speculation on that at all.
10/31/2013 3:01:53 PM
ordered the 16GB in black... said out of inventory for a few minutes (with the other 3 models still in stock), then came back upthe thunderbolt had a good run
10/31/2013 3:12:02 PM
so the N5 has both CDMA and GSM radios? the second screen on the specs scroller shows the bands and the third screen mentions only t-mobile and sprinti assume that - in terms of technology - anything that can be used on TMO can be used on AT&T? same for spring and VZW, though i'm sure VZW isn't going to let anyone use the N5 on their network[Edited on October 31, 2013 at 3:41 PM. ^^The nexus 5 does indeed have the correct CDMA radios to function with Verizon. However it's pointless, because it doesn't have a radio for band 13 LTE, Verizon's current flavor. It does support band 4, though, Verizon's aws spectrum. To answer your question it both does and doesn't work on Verizon's network *IF* you could convince them to allow the device.
10/31/2013 9:06:20 PM
Why doesn't N5 doesn't support VZW's LTE band?
10/31/2013 9:14:03 PM
it has band 4 which from what i can tell is a new band that verizon just recently bought. i think it is only a very small band that covers a small area of the country. so basically no it doesnt support verizons lte band
10/31/2013 9:17:52 PM
^^have to ask lg/Google why their modem selection didn't include band 13. Probably because Verizon passed on the device, and it would be an added expense.

i order a 32 GB N5 today to replace my Note 2. not sure if i'll keep it though - i got used to a physical home button
10/31/2013 9:35:38 PM
ordered a 16GB black today. Planning to activate my AT&T ST Sim when I get the phone. I'll miss the awesome coverage I have with Verizon, but I just can't justify the cost, or feeling stuck paying more for a phone to try and keep my grandfathered data plan. I could buy a different phone (Say, GSIII) and stretch it longer, but I'm only delaying the inevitable.
10/31/2013 9:38:01 PM
^ Good call. It's only a matter of time...
10/31/2013 10:08:58 PM
just listed S4 on ebay and ordered white 16GB (didn't know it was coming out today and toyed around with my shopping cart for too long to get black). Still 3-4 week ship time, but i'll just cancel it if I find one locally.

I disabled the SMS in hangouts. It was a pretty shitty implementation. It was not like imessage/sms where it's a threaded conversation.
11/1/2013 2:23:04 PM
N5 has shipped...I should have it by Monday.
11/1/2013 2:27:18 PM
Mine showing 2-3 weeks
11/1/2013 2:41:18 PM
I'm hearing anecdotally that buying multiple units delays your shipment which is bs. I bought them within 2 minutes of the sale going live and I haven't gotten a confirmed shipment yet.
11/1/2013 2:55:32 PM
If only you bought them after one minute.

mine was done by FedEx. couldn't waive the sig, but did get it rerouted to a fedex store after a failed delivery attempt
11/2/2013 11:59:51 AM
I assume if you aren't home that you can just request that it stays at a delivery center after a failed delivery like anything else, correct?
11/2/2013 12:16:24 PM
yeah
11/2/2013 2:01:52 PM
finally got my shipping notice this morning, should be here Tuesday! [Edited on November 3, 2013 at 9:39 AM. Reason : 2day]

No but I just started playing Clash of Clans (just came to Android). It's pretty fun! Also I just swapped the screen protector on my GN2. N5 is in handBut since Straight Talk requires a signature on their $8 SIM cards I'm not going to be able to activate until tomorrow
11/4/2013 11:17:59 AM
Are the data speeds on Straight Talk pretty good? Does it do 4G?
11/4/2013 11:20:58 AM
so, anything I need to do in preparation for porting my # and service from Verizon to ST? I have a Nexus 5 arriving and an un-activated AT&T ST sim. (Still need to get a cutter to cut it from micro to nano this week).Currently I am part of an old family-plan with my parents and sister that we all share. They all have old-school simple feature phones or whatever and I am the only one with a smartphone or any data on that plan. Will it be an issue for me to activate my phone and port my number since mine is part of another plan, of which I am not the plan administrator?
11/4/2013 11:28:00 AM
I'm trying to decide if I just wanna keep my old phone, and get a new number on this AT&T SIM for a little while just to try out the service. Seems like that luxury will cost me $48 more (1 month of service + another SIM)...not sure it's worth it. May just jump in feet first and do the port.
11/4/2013 12:20:42 PM
^are you sure the 5 uses nano? i heard it used a microsim
11/4/2013 12:21:03 PM
Looks like it is in fact a micro-SIMhttps://support.google.com/nexus/answer/3473178http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/h7yEKHlq8EU[Edited on November 4, 2013 at 12:27 PM. Reason : Yeah I just checked on my N5, micro]

Finally got rid of my iPhone... switched to Galaxy Note 3. Wow wow wow.[Edited on November 4, 2013 at 12:32 PM. Reason : is there a galaxy gear thread?]
11/4/2013 12:31:38 PM
i paid for a month of st service before making the full switch over. i figured it would be good just to make sure i have service everywhere i need it before canceling verizon. i dont think $48 is much, just to make sure. i would hate to not have service at home/work and already canceled. you might want to check on if you can change the number on a sim that you already have activated. i dont think you can. so if you want to try you wont be able to port your number later. i decided to just start over and not port.
11/4/2013 12:32:17 PM
^^^,^^^^correct. Thanks I was just looking that up myself and it is indeed a micro. Seemed like the leaked info pointed to it being a nano and I forgot to check the final specs.^ and that's not a bad idea but I'm hoping I'll have no issues with an AT&T sim based on what my neighbors and co-workers have said about AT&T in the area. Also, this is the only phone # I have ever had for myself so I'm definitely not wanting to lose it.[Edited on November 4, 2013 at 12:48 PM. Reason : ]

^ You may can do a trade-in program with your carrier. Its called One Up with Sprint and you can trade in your current phone if you are on a contract to start the plan.
11/4/2013 1:23:36 PM
I don't know if I can do a trade in with a phone on AT&T if I'm still under contract. At this point I'd be best just unlocking it myself, selling it on CL or ebay, then buying the Note III off contract.
11/4/2013 1:26:46 PM
My wife and I were up able to renew our contracts so we each did the new AT&T plan where we didn't come out of pocket to buy the phones up front, but pay monthly for 12 months and then turn the phones in and get to upgrade to new ones. We went expecting to pay hundreds of dollars and spent less than $100 out of pocket. The monthly for her Galaxy S4 is 25 bucks and mine is 35- total our monthly bill increased less than $50 though because we went to a plan with less minutes as we were sharing 1400/month and actually using less than 700 a month. We lost 11000 rollover minutes but oh well... They also gave us a free Note 3 tablet if we signed up for the data plan ($15/month) for two years.

anyone happen to buy an extra black 32gb n5 they want to get rid of at cost? I was indecisive for too long and missed my window to get one in any reasonable time
11/4/2013 6:35:55 PM
http://raleigh.craigslist.org/search/?areaID=36&subAreaID=&query=nexus+5&catAbb=ssssome decent deals for 16gb ($410-$420)
11/4/2013 6:49:11 PM
Why would you subsidize a $349.00 device in the first place?
11/4/2013 6:56:49 PM
Can anyone think of good breakage/loss warranty companies for the N5 outside of Squaretrade? They're $8 a month, with a $99 replacement fee...which isn't bad, but it doesn't cover lost or stolen phones. Will any 3rd party companies cover those?
11/4/2013 10:16:14 PM
which provider? asurion is a little cheaper (monthly) but still $95 or so for a deductible. Their total coverage plan covers everything (loss, theft, damage)

anyone have their number ported to google and have nothing but trouble with it on their phone?i ported mine (paying $20 for the privilege) almost 2 months ago when i switched to straight talk, thinking it made sense...but it's been a PITA ever sincefirst, it took 3-4 days for the initial change to go through (ie. google had my number, but when i'd call or text from it, everyone told me it came up as a random 504 number until 3-4 days after the change)that was annoying, but somewhat understandable...what's NOT understandable is why google voice (the app) keeps resetting to make itself the the default SMS/MMS app and then NEVER notifying me that i've received text messages...i'll just realize i haven't gotten anything in a while and check the settings, and sure enough, it decided to take over againthen there's hangouts...what a shitastic app...i have 4 google accounts tied to my phone and it absolutely cannot stand letting me associate my ST phone number (the one provided by ST that's tied to the phone itself) with the same google account that my "real" phone number is tied to...so until i uninstalled it, i couldn't open the app without it asking me to verify my ST number with a second account...this would cause my GV forwarding to get fucked up, and for 24-48 hours, i'd "lose" my number (see above, it would send my texts and calls from a completely unrelated number)i realize i'm ranting here...i'm just wondering if it's me, my phone (nexus 4), the ROM (pac-man 4.3) or something else[/rant][Edited on November 5, 2013 at 8:39 AM. I bought the Droid Maxx on Amazon wireless early Sept, shipped mid Sept, and they have price matched twice since I bought it down to $100 (+ the bogus $30 that VZ now charges to upgrade). I'm guessing it's unusual to be able to get the latest Droid for a hundred bucks 75 days after launch?
