^yeah, I know how to do it normally, but this phone was just giving me the "connect to iTunes" screen upon booting. I couldn't access the normal menus or apps. It wasn't "activated" yet.I just used an at&t sim card and activated it, then jailbroke with greenpois0n, then unlocked it with ultrasn0w. It looks like everything worked! Unless I can find somebody with a t-mobile sim to test it with, i guess it'll have to wait till he gets back to India. I can't believe how easy everything was to install.

I'm new to jailbreaking and Cydia, so can anyone recommend the best free Cydia apps? My major focus was wifi hotspot/tethering capability, which I think I got with PdaNet free thanks to a Google search. Anyone used this and know of any problems or shortcomings, or recommend a better wifi hotspot app?

Pay for MyWi. It's worth it.
3/7/2011 11:05:42 AM
Yeah, MyWi is infinitely better than any of the alternatives. A few free apps I use a lot:BadgesFive icon switcherFoldercloserPhonecloserPull to refresh mailPull to refresh safariSbsettingsSpringflashSwitchermodWeathericonWicarrierXBMCYourtube23G unrestrictorMywi

Anyone jailbreak 4.3 yet?
3/10/2011 4:09:41 PM
Anybody tried out this program called TouchRetouch? If you remember that Photoshop video from a while back that showed that feature that just allowed you to lasso just about anything and hit the delete key, that's basically what this program does. I tried it out on a couple of pictures and it works pretty good. Here's one I did from a picture I took this afternoon. It's a crappy picture to start with, so it's probably not the best example, but I was really impressed with the results. Click for bigger size:Removed the refs and a Miami player:Not surprisingly it just turned the group of players in the middle into a jumbled up mess when I tried to delete them, but it did alright with the isolated people, I think. Not bad for a quick and dirty edit on your mobile device. ]
3/10/2011 9:00:17 PM
Normally I get tired of reading your BS. But that is pretty damn good for editing on your phone.
3/10/2011 9:11:21 PM
Normally I don't give a flying fuck what you think about me, and I still don't.
3/10/2011 9:13:18 PM
ooops I did it again. i fucked up the clooooooooockhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/8380346/Apple-iPhone-4-alarm-clock-bug-strikes-agains.htmlhow bad is the QA department over there that they've had the most simple part of a phone fuck up 3 times now
3/14/2011 6:59:06 AM
if time = 2:00 AM && daylightsavings = true { turn clock forward || turn clock backward}else{// do nothing}
3/14/2011 8:07:09 AM
Who uses the stock alarm clock anyway?
3/15/2011 5:25:28 PM
^I use my phone's alarm every morning, although I don't have an iPhone. My wife uses her iPhone as an alarm too. She travels all the time, so it's much more convenient to have something you can "trust" to wake you up in the morning. That said, it's strange they've had common sense use-case issues with their clock. But at least it's easy to predict for when the iPhone's clock will fail:
if datetime.event == CONFUSING { activate_old_school_backup_clock()}else{// use iPhone clock}
3/15/2011 7:07:58 PM
I use my phone's alarm as a backup to my normal alarm (or when traveling). Late Sunday night, she looked at me like I was crazy when testing my Samsung Focus to make sure the alarm would work later that morning at 4am, but I'm paranoid after coming from an iPhone.Needless to say, I felt pretty vindicated by the same news story breaking as usual.[Edited on March 15, 2011 at 7:16 PM. You guys actually use smart phones to TALK on the phone? Like with your voice?
3/16/2011 9:18:11 AM
3/16/2011 9:36:40 AM
Used my iPhone last week on vacation alongside my other camera and I'm still amazed at how some of the pics turned out:
3/16/2011 9:49:00 AM
^^^my monthly average for voice is ~45 min. yes, that's per month. my wife however uses 700+ minutes. so on a family share plan, it could help. but we're on verizon and never go over... just sayin'
3/16/2011 10:04:12 AM
It's always funny looking at my parents phone bill. About 3k Friends and Family minutes used and maybe 70 anytime minutes on a 900min plan.
3/16/2011 10:08:16 AM
i share 700mins with my sister and brother-in-law....we generally dont need rollover mins but sometimes we are done with 700 in 20/25 days and need rollover mins for the rest of the billing cycle.
3/16/2011 10:13:15 AM
3/16/2011 10:21:06 AM
all my minutes are used up calling peeps back in india and i dont have a home phone.

3/17/2011 12:03:01 PM
^ yea greenpoison need to hurry the eff up already
3/17/2011 4:51:28 PM
oh shit, AT&T is pissedhttp://www.bgr.com/2011/03/18/att-cracks-down-on-tethering-cheaters/
3/18/2011 8:33:57 AM
100% FUD. I understand shit like that HAS to make the news, but it will have absolutely no effect on anything at all.
3/18/2011 9:13:58 AM
How can they enroll you in something automatically without your consent? While i might see this flying in some states, i highly doubt this will fly in others. Expect a lawsuit on this one.
3/18/2011 9:17:00 AM
if you're not using an inordinate amount of data, how can they tell you're tethering?
3/18/2011 11:14:03 AM
^That's what I'd like to know. What do you mean this will have no effect? You think they're just making empty threats? After doing a little reading, it seems as if they are simply targeting high data users.[Edited on March 18, 2011 at 11:34 AM. Reason : d]
3/18/2011 11:16:56 AM
that blows
3/18/2011 2:27:59 PM
^^ how can they tell??Pretty sure if you are connecting from your firefox browser on your laptop, then the web request going out to their network includes this in the HTTP information headers.... Not rocket science here.
3/18/2011 5:25:21 PM
^yeah seriously. Although I'm still sure it's for users who abuse it. I've got a Sprint 4g hotspot for tethering though.
3/18/2011 5:48:26 PM
I have no clue how that shit works, hence why I asked the question. I never knew that information about what particular browser & crap was sent out like that. My degree is in animal science. I've never taken any sort of networking class. [Edited on March 18, 2011 at 5:50 PM. Reason : ]
3/18/2011 5:49:04 PM
Not to mention that you're not always going to go over web ports when using software on a computer. Kind of like how when I had my iPhone I could tether and use GChat within Gmail, but not in the standalone application.
3/18/2011 6:00:22 PM
If they're just going by user-agent that's easy enough to change.I wonder if they're using some other means to determine this?
3/18/2011 7:11:50 PM
there is a VERY long thread about this on modmyi and the conclusion, as I stated above, is that they are simply targeting high data users. Some who don't tether got the notice. Some who tether but don't use much data didn't.They're not analyzing traffic or anything like that.
3/19/2011 9:02:19 AM
Just wanted to voice my opinion that the latest iPhone ads are incredibly stupid.
3/19/2011 9:02:35 PM
I'm sure Apple's marketing team will get right on that now that you've posted your opinion on page 196 of a thread on TWW.
3/19/2011 9:06:09 PM
Because I definitely expect me posting something on TWW to change anything. Just voicing my opinion in an appropriate thread.
3/19/2011 9:34:09 PM
Actually since your opinion added nothing to the actual technical discussion of the iPhone, I think this is probably the thread you were looking for.[Edited on March 19, 2011 at 9:50 PM. Reason : Chit Chat is thataway ---->]
