I wish they'd do something like my GNex...subsided Nexus device from the carrier[Edited on September 12, 2013 at 2:04 PM. Reason : What do you all with Nexus 4s do for insurance? Anything? Warranty is just a year too right?]
9/12/2013 2:03:29 PM
T-Mobile carried the nexus 4 in store at a subsidized price. It wasn't much of a subsidy, but it was. I think they sold for 199.Based on leaks, the next nexus will not be a Verizon capable device. Womp.
9/12/2013 6:43:40 PM
man, fuck verizon
9/12/2013 7:52:44 PM
I really need a new phone, I feel like my bionic is on its last leg. I'm waiting to see what Republic Wireless will do. Im really liking the idea of spending $19/month, but I dont like the defy.
9/12/2013 7:53:01 PM
^ that is, verbatim, my situation...same phone and waiting for RW to release their new phoneseven though they promised by the "end of the summer", it seems there's a great deal of speculation that it will be october before we hear anything...i guess i'im fine waiting, but i really need to see what other options are out there, because i'm certainly not sticking with VZW
9/12/2013 10:26:25 PM
the nexus 4 can be used on any GSM network (AT&T/TMO), right? so i pick one up now for $200, switch over to straight talk, then pick up the nexus 5 later on (not necessarily immediately at release), i should be able to sell the N4 to anyone with AT&T/TMO?
9/13/2013 1:43:48 PM
Yes. But good luck selling it after the 5 is out... You'll basically lose $100 t9 use it for 2 months...
9/13/2013 2:30:34 PM
maybe not quite that muchif google keeps up their pricing (and i think they will), the N5 prices will be $300 for 8GB and $350 for 16GB...if i only keep it for a couple of months, i think $200 is reasonable for a used 16GB, especially if it's someone tied to a contract with AT&T and they need a replacementmaybe not, though...i don't really keep track of phone resale value as the times i buy them, they're already so old that they're less than $100 is the general consensus that the N5 pricing scheme will be the same or are they expected to go up?
9/13/2013 2:42:40 PM
Probably the same... But you mean to tell me, I can buy a used phone that was released a year ago for $200 from you. Or I can buy a 5 brand new for $350... Or maybe even old stock nexus 4s unused for $200???? Tough call. I really think you'll lose 50-100 in the proposition. I would just wait and buy the next nexus and call it a day. Or try to buy a used nexus 4 if you are that hard up.

9/13/2013 6:32:52 PM
Pretty much what I read that as...
9/13/2013 6:56:32 PM
^^ i do that kind of thing all the time...also, i was referring to two different models between posts (but didn't clarify, my bad...since the 8GB was $200 but isn't available anymore)i ended up picking up a new 16GB for $200, though...and yes, i believe i can sell it for close to that (i'm certainly not going to lose $100) IF i decide to upgrade to the 5, but right now i'm not sure what the 5 is going to do that will be worth spending $350 on...since i'm coming from a bionic, it doesn't take much for me to be impressed [Edited on September 16, 2013 at 8:41 PM. Reason : sold the bionic today for $100, actually ]

Someone just showed me something that perplexed me...He got a new phone after his old one had a broken screen and couldn't respond on part of the touchscreen anymore, and the main difference is the new one had Android 4.2.2 and the old one had Android 4.1; however, when you tried to search from the Phone app on the old phone, you'd be kicked to the People app and could search in any part of your contacts, like name and company and notes...but on the new phone, you'd go to the Phone app's built-in search, which only allowed you to search names. He thought I really knew my stuff when it came to phones or something, because he wanted me to get the new phone to act like the old one, and even after much Googling I'm not sure whether that can be done or whether you just need to use the People app directly from 4.2 onward.
9/17/2013 7:46:09 PM
It may be in relation to an apple patent. If I remember correctly, something about searching across apps on a device for contacts was protected by a patent... Or something vaguely similar.
9/17/2013 11:54:43 PM
I've only seen references to something called "universal search" that sounds specifically like combining Web search results with results from the local device.
9/19/2013 9:06:44 AM
So the Nexus 5 is supposedly being released Oct 14th.I'd really love to have another Nexus device as well as the latest OS, so I'm holding off on the G2 purchase for now.
9/23/2013 10:22:50 AM
dittoi'd be surprised if it's on verizon though i might pick up one of those Straight Talk AT&T micro sims and just trim it down to a nano sim for the Nexus 5 thoughdamn the temptation of unlimited data
9/23/2013 11:54:45 AM
^^^^^yeah, i remember they had to take out local searches because apple supposedly had a patent on it.

I am definitely jumping on board with the Sprint One Up program. Hope that there is still no down payment when the Note 3 drops (reportedly) on Oct. 4th.

nexus 5 on carrier or moto dvx on republic? hmmm

anyone used Photon Browser? I'd never use it as a primary browser, Chrome and Dolphin are much better, and it has ads and stuff. But it does play Flash video which is pretty cool.
9/24/2013 6:47:50 PM
... or is it?!
9/24/2013 6:52:00 PM
i was actually serious...the economics of republic are almost too much to resist. I don't think 4g has been worth it for the last two years at $170/2 lines on Verizon with Droid Razrsalmost any phone anyone offers at this point, even their lowest, is newer and better than my phone and if the only difference between the moto x and the dvx is the absence of 4g, I think I would have to go with a $25/month plan and that phone no matter how great the Nexus 5 might be

What's the best Camera app on Android? I was looking at "Camera ZOOM FX" but it's 3 bucks. If i get it and then get a new phone(on the same account), does the app transfer?

9/27/2013 8:42:55 AM
i'm not sure why they'd do it, unless they were getting pressure from the carriers...but i don't really see the financial benefit in the carriers being dicks about traveling with your (unlocked) phone, as you shouldn't be tied to anyone, anyway
I have a Galaxy S2 on Sprint, and battery life is pretty terrible, which I think is largely due to the phone not getting a good signal and constantly scanning. Its a Wimax phone, so Im curious if the LTE phones on Sprint are much better with this, considering Sprint has done a lot of upgrades in this area recently (or so Ive heard). Or am I better off just peacing out from Sprint? (even with having data limits)
9/27/2013 3:15:46 PM
^the s2 batteries are being replaced for free at service centers. Also, I have a Sprint HTC One, and even with about half my usage being on lte, I am easily getting 15-18 hours of usage. Lte is definitely more efficient, and the newer phones have bigger batteries.

Depends on who makes your phone. Some devices, like Samsung, have a short in their chargers across the data pair of the USB port. This is sensed by the phone and it will draw full current. For example, I have a dual port charger that has 1A and 2A, but will charge at 350 mA if I don't use a cable I shorted myself.

Downloading the official 4.3 on my Sprint HTC One now. I had my orignal One rooted but never got around to it on the replacement
10/2/2013 2:53:52 PM
So I got in on the Verizon unlimited upgrade glitch... I ordered a moto x. I fucking love the onscreen notifications. I also love trusted Bluetooth pairs. For instance when paired with my vehicle, and the vehicle is on... once I unlock my device, it will remain unlocked. I can turn this off in my notification pane, or it automatically locks when I turn the car off... This needs to be put into stock android.[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 9:51 PM. Reason : .]

lots of 4.4 leaks circling the interwebs last week. i think the most intriguing feature could be putting the launcher in the play store so any phone could install it. it would be great to get rid of touchwiz.
10/13/2013 10:34:28 PM
talk of launchers reminds me...anyone else use LMT with PIE controls? i've hidden the nav bar completely on my N4 and use LMT/PIE on the right-hand side (like below, but with no nav bar at all)i love having the extra real estate on the screen and i've finally gotten the touch point set perfectly so that it doesn't interfere with anything else i'm doing
