Probably not I figure it's worth a shot. I need more small pistol primers and powder anyways too, so I won't be too upset about my visit unless they sell out of those too.

powder and primers were very slim at the C&E show before xmas. a lot of the retailers are just reselling from powder valley. if PV doesn't have it, they probably won't either.

NRR, you can probably get your gas tube from rainier. I just got a rifle length one yesterday.

anyone in the Charlotte-Metro area have a 12 gauge over/under they wouldn't mind loaning to a TWWer on the 17th?

going on a quail hunt and had to send my Benelli in for repairs right before Christmas. I would take my dad's Ruger Red Label, but he's going on the same hunt . Don't really want to take a pump.

waiting to hear back from one other person right now.

JesusHChrist, 7.62x54r ammo has gone up. Used to be $75 OTD for a Spam Can (440rnds) when North Raleigh Guns opened. Then it was $85 OTD. I just called and it's $100 before taxes!

So I ordered 880 rounds for $175.12 shipped online. Should get here in a couple weeks. Probably the last batch I'll see going at <$0.20/round. Everywhere else was sold out.

^^^, is that the biometric version?
If so, I heard a tip from another owner:
The box will hold 20 users in memory. Scan your finger 10 different times over the course of a couple days. This will cover variation that may cause a rejection of a single print where your finger may be dirty, slip, etc

I don't have any long rifles, so is a safe like that good enough to keep a gun fastened? Seems like that cord could easily be cut with wire cutters, although I don't know if your average thief would carry those.

Girlfriend found this biometric safe on Amazon from Berska, reviews seem good and it is on sale (ships free with Prime too). Looks like it can be bolted into a wall stud or two, although not sure about the interior size.

It would probably hold 4 handguns if I had to guess.
If you bolt to a wall or floor, then it would stop a smash and grab.
Less than a minute with a hammer and pry bar would have it open, but it is that way with most small safes.

so i ran across this:
from http://shadowopsweaponry.com/products/230-ar-15-stripped-lower-receiver-shdw-15.aspx

Quote :
"Hi Everyone,

We are in a MASSIVE push to make as many black rifle lowers at a very fair price considering what certain lowers are going for now at $600 each on gunbroker, which is FRICKING INSANE.

Our goal is to have all of these lowers before any legislation goes into effect in July of 2013. We are guestimating that it will take 3 months past January to come up with a law to ban AR-15 from new manufacture and an 90-day notice to us to stop manufacturing."

whats up with july '13?

Yeah, I'm still betting (barely) that nothing big is going to happen.

That said, am I good if I have a bunch of stripped lowers? What're the odds of any other parts becoming long-term scarce/very expensive/highly regulated? What's the deal on any requirement for the rifles to be "completed" to be grandfathered in?

under the '94 AWB, the official stance of the BATFE was that the rifle had to be in evil configuration before the ban.

of course, they had no way of proving what evil features your rifle had pre-ban.

If a ban goes into effect, I'm thinking it'll be forced registration of any serialized lower with configuration notes / photos, the same way NFA items are described now on a Form 1

I decided that it was time to venture into NFA items instead of building the next AR.
Getting the trust competed next week, and will order the can in February.
Then there will be the six month wait for approval.

^^ I don't think that'll happen. The backlash would be massive.

That, and I think that people just wouldn't register them (other than new purchases, of course).

^^^^ I think something like a .44 Rem Mag in a suppressed carbine would be really cool. I'd like to hunt hogs with it.

My concern with NFA stuff is with inviting the BATF into my life. I just don't want to be registered with them or be subject to audits. As of right now, nobody knows what I have. I bought them all in private transactions, and all the ones I bought from FFLs have been sold in private transactions.

I normally agree about inviting inspection from the .gov, but NFA prices haven't gone up while everything else has.
It will run me about $600 for a .45 suppressor, and then the $200 stamp.
I will mostly run it with 9mm, but it is user serviceable so I can run it on any .22 as well.
Thompson Machine QMF-2

With $800 I still wouldn't be close to finishing the AR the way i want at today's prices.
