I'm sure many cynics will dismiss such statements, but at least they're being open and direct about it, and if they fuck up, there's a public record of their commitment to call them out by.

"lobbyist" is a dirty word, and understandably so. but the reality is that people who want to make a career out of their interests in effecting political change often end up working in these kinds of consulting organizations. All the other top candidates in the NYC race also have hired consulting teams, cus that's where the experience and talent is. Grassroots efforts either grow and scale into professional organizations, or they remain amateurs who may not be as effective in accomplishing their goals.

^ it is funny in a way, I agree. By the polls it seems most people don't seem to think that's of concern though. Says a lot that the longtime NYC politicians who did things the "right way" are behind him in the polls.

fwiw, I take no joy in being the perpetual Yang apologist in this thread. I do hope he wins, and I hope he does well as Mayor, and if he one day decides to run for President again, I hope that he has accomplished a lot for the people of NYC such that I can eagerly support him for President again too. I am not blind to his weaknesses as a candidate, or as a person. I call him out when I disagree with him. But a lot of the hate he gets is just silly. But I've got 20 years of experience watching people show their foolishness on this site, so from now on I think I'll just do what I mostly do for the rest of the foolishness I see on here - ignore it and mind my own business.
