I'm not hating on Finley at all, he's probably going to go down as the 3rd best QB in NC State history(I don't know hot to seed Roman Gabriel despite multiple All-Americans because his stats were...not good and neither was our team). I think we're going to miss Finley next year, as he is a great college QB and is perfect for our system. But I actually thought he'd have a slightly better season, and I don't put it all on him but some of the picks he's thrown have been just awful throws. I think Drink needed to turn Finley loose a little more, particularly in the redzone. That being said, he absolutely deserved All-ACC QB, but I was pointing out the competition was...not the best. Lawrence would have likely won that in a landslide if he started all season. Oh well, he'll win it the next 2 years.

I think finley is great but not quite good enough to make the Aaron Rodgers type under pressure scramble throw. His biggest weakness may be that he THINKS he IS good enough. The 3 worst int's I remember this year were red zone scramble vs bc, final possession vs Cuse and pressure scramble vs UNC (ironically we won 2 of those). Those were all terrible throws and super wasteful. Cuse was the most understandable bc we really needed a play there, but it was only 3rd down. Gotta throw it away or take the sack and try again.

Yeah I obviously wasn’t around for Gabriel but he’s widely considered an all time great (college and pro). passing offenses were just so different then.

Good news for Justin: Tenn interested in Drink as OC
11/28/2018 4:57:22 PM
I think you mean good news for NC State football.
11/28/2018 5:26:53 PM
I've seen UT linked with 3 OC's: Hugh Freeze, Drink, and Chip Lindsey. I don't mind Drink jumping ship, but I expect he's more likely to hold out for a HC gig, esp after BC's OC just got one and Drink has a much better resume.

https://www.newsobserver.com/sports/article222355855.htmlAs of now it looks like our most likely bowl opponents are TAMU, Iowa St, or SCar. Would like a rematch with SCar. But also kinda scared of Jake Bentley and Debo Samuel vs our secondary.

I assume much of our offense (Harmon, Finley) will not be playing. Some seniors will need to play for exposure, but not those 2. I dont know that I like our chances vs anyone unless they are like us (WVU?) and have their QB sitting.[Edited on November 29, 2018 at 2:14 PM. Reason : In regards to the bowl game. Guess the same could be said for ECU though. ]
11/29/2018 2:13:55 PM
Yeah it’ll be interesting to see how plays...I could see finley playing to try to have a nice game vs a quality opponent, but he nor Harmon really need to play.

I mean i guess it was a good chance to lad some stats but it was kind of a waste of a game, especially once ahlers got hurt
12/1/2018 3:29:46 PM
9-3 > 8-3
12/1/2018 3:39:38 PM
^^9-3 helps bowl seeding and makes us more likely to get ranked. Also gives us a legit shot at 10 wins. That game wasn't a waste for us(3 new single-season records, great send-off to SRs after that shitty Wake game), but it was absolutely a waste for ECU. I know ECU regrets agreeing to the game, it made the firing of Scottie awkward and delayed their firing/hiring process and they had no benefit from the game this season. Benefit from them is that we agreed to schedule a home-and-home with them to make-up for padding our record this year.
12/1/2018 3:51:37 PM
I mean, I'm sure they got paid to play today. And they need the money to pay a buyout.
12/1/2018 3:54:09 PM
^^that win doesn't affect our bowl shot. If we hadn't played the game it would be Orlando or Jacksonville. With a win its Orlando or Jacksonville
12/1/2018 4:06:49 PM
Drinkwitz might get some looks from other schools for HC position, at least some interest. dont you think?
12/2/2018 1:40:10 AM
Looks like Orlando unless they decide to fuck Oklahoma and keep uga in the the top 4, in which case, gator/Jacksonville
12/2/2018 9:34:03 AM
New Years eve, against Iowa State. Orlando FloridaWe will see if NC State 9-3(5-3) can get to 10 wins against 8-4(6-3) Iowa State.

^camping world bowl is on the 28th...not new years eve
12/2/2018 12:54:23 PM
It's gator bowl anyways, I was incorrect. Camping world picked Syracuse.

Gator Bowl vs. Texas A&M on NYE
12/2/2018 5:23:08 PM
last time we were in the Gator Bowl, we beat the shit out of Notre Dame during Rivers' junior season, for our 11th win of the year.

Seems like a fun matchup.

Who's going?[Edited on December 2, 2018 at 7:47 PM. Reason : ]
12/2/2018 7:41:29 PM
Sounds like Ledford could be a candidate for App State HC position.
12/3/2018 7:09:48 PM
Ledford rumored to be candidate for HC at App State, if not, definitely for OC. Auburn just lost their OC, so rumors that Drink will be a candidate to be their OC with his history with Malzahn. George Barlow rumored to be a potential candidate for JMU HC job since he played there, though seems like maybe a longshot.
12/4/2018 9:30:04 AM
Where'd Apps coach go?
12/4/2018 9:45:20 AM
Louisville
12/4/2018 9:58:38 AM
Do you think UNC hired brown b/c they reached out to App's coach and he told them no?
12/4/2018 10:02:34 AM
No. I think Mack Brown made it clear to UNC that he wanted that job before they fired Fedora and they didn't bother talking to anyone else.
12/4/2018 11:54:53 AM
^correct. unc was all in on mack the entire time...he was the #1 (and i don't think there was a #2)
12/4/2018 12:17:31 PM
Seems weird. I'm not the least bit impressed (or worried). Am I missing something?
12/4/2018 3:14:39 PM
Yeah it’s weird. Their boosters pined for those glory days and Mack wanted back into coaching. Fedora was kinda brusk and rubbed people the wrong way (especially so when you’re losing so much). He didn’t develop relationships with high schools like Mack did. And basically they want Mack to come back in and fix the culture problems Fedora created. Instead of simply trying to find a young Mack Brown of the future they got old Mack Brown which seems like even with its best case scenario, will end kinda awkwardly in 6-8 years.

12/4/2018 3:25:20 PM
UNC had been in discussion with Mack Brown for some time before they fired Fedora, there's a reason the hire took <24 hours. There were multiple factors involved with hiring Mack:1. Boosters wanted him back. 2. He's cheap and will be affordable while they pay off Fedora's buyout. 3. He's super safe. 4. He's a great recruiter and that's the focus. 5. Can pump some energy back into the program and get people back in the stands. UNC should have done a full search and App State's coach should have been the first call, but he was a much riskier hire. Mack is a national championship winning coach with tons of experience and ties to the area. They want Mack to come in, hire a ton of recruiters, re-establish recruiting dominance in the state and try to get UNC back to the top NC program with plenty of talent and then bring in their future HC with a loaded roster. The only reason Mack was throwing out big name assistants was to generate buzz, and so far all of his assistant hires are 100% for recruiting purposes. Their OC has 1 year of play-calling experience but is a proven recruiter. They brought back Brewster who is an OK position coach but proven recruiter. Dre Bly is 100% about recruiting, so is the OL coach. The expectation is that if you have enough talent in a bad Coastal, all you need is mediocre coaching and you should be a bowl team. Mack isn't taking over nearly the dumpster fire that Doeren inherited. UNC has had top 25-35 classes the last several years up until this year(currently ranked 89th). UNC is about to flip Howell(4*) and some rumors they're skulking around Tony Davis(4* CB committed to Duke), so the focus right now is to pad the class with some high ranked recruits to generate more recruiting buzz going into 2020.
