NC State doing NC State things.

too many errors by the infield in the bottom of the 8th. When that inning ended, it should have been at worst 8-2
6/2/2015 12:06:40 AM
TCU was imploding and then we were like "naw guys, we're NC State, we got this implosion shit on lock" and out-imploded them for the win loss.
6/2/2015 12:06:56 AM
Willard is the goat tonight. Let two just bounce off of his glove before a run even scored. Then the pitchers decided to walk and balk their way to giving up a couple more. 3 earned runs on the evening. 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the 8th.

I'm sticking with basketball and football from now on, I can't deal with this shit in more than two sports
6/2/2015 12:09:20 AM
Brutal but not surprising
6/2/2015 12:09:43 AM
The number of fuck ups in the last 3 innings were so numerous that it can only fall on the guy in charge.

This was all a setup for one of the most nc state shit scenarios of all time

Things I fault Avent for: 1) Not putting McKeithan in at SS late as a defensive replacement and moving Ratledge to 2B. 2) Putting DeJuneas (who is a freshman and has struggled with control all year) in a bases loaded spot where the count is already 2-0. Everything else was just an absolute implosion by the individuals on the field. Willard made it so that Olczak had to try and get 5 outs in an inning with his 2 errors. Pitchers can sometimes lose their control, but DeJuneas' balk flat out shouldn't happen. Our fielders threw the ball away a few times allowing them to take extra bases. Knizer had a few bad drops/passed balls and forgot to throw to 1st on the dropped strike 3. And then to top it all off we got that absolute garbage balk call on Britt in the 9th. Bright side: We return 6/9 guys in our lineup (Ratledge, Fincher, Riley) and basically our entire pitching staff unless I'm forgetting anyone. Down side: We're talking about next year. Again.
6/2/2015 7:36:13 AM
how did I know I'd wake up to see we'd shat the game away? oh right, I'm a State fan, it comes naturally
6/2/2015 7:42:28 AM
^^I think the McKiethan thing is all hindsight. You shouldn't need a defensive replacement on routine groundballs. We're talking about 2 routine plays that every 2nd baseman should complete. And we can't forget that Ratledge bobbled a couple as well. So would have McKiethan been the difference? We can't be certain of that. But i completely agree on DeJuneas. Foxhall made the wrong decision here. Freshman who had already shown nerves and loss of control in recent weeks. bases loaded and in the hole with a 2-0 count. What did you expect to happen? Foxhall really fumbled the bullpen game last night. I honestly thought they pulled Gilbert an inning too early. But really...It's all Willard. Turn either one of those routine balls into an out and the entire game changes. This discussion is never happening. Alas...this was a collapse of epic proportions. One that'll the casual fan will probably forget about come football season, but will stick with me and the other baseball fans for a long long time.
6/2/2015 8:20:11 AM
McKeithan is no longer on the team, so there's thatbut yeah, Gilbert should have been left in a longer (if he had anything left in his arm since he pitched a good bit Friday) and Olczak too.[Edited on June 2, 2015 at 9:47 AM. Reason : ]

need to recruit more reliable players in the infield
6/2/2015 9:49:29 AM
Ah shit. I never heard about McKeithan being off the team. That one is a little more hindsight, but I just felt like in general we had to have some mode defensively sound guys on the bench even if they couldn't do much with the bat. It wasn't just the errors from Ratledge and Willard, but the times that we'd throw home instead of to a base, or throw home so insanely wild that it would allow the base runners to move up.
6/2/2015 10:31:37 AM
Three balks, in 3 innings... Rare to see one at this point in the season much less three. The one that made the count 3-2 from 2-2 doesn't seem as impactful but we end up walking that dude, that was a big one. Still might have walked the guy but rather have 2 pitches to get a strike then 1, changed the dynamic of the whole at bat. And the last one not even sure what the call was seemed like he stepped off.
6/2/2015 11:12:36 AM
^ that wasn't a balk (which don't alter the count), it was a ball. when a pitcher goes to his mouth while on the rubber, it's an automatic ball. I totally agree though... changed the tone of the at bat and threw off Olczak, who seemed like he was going to be able to finish that guy off otherwise.^^ I don't think that anything about McKeithan was ever announced, but a couple of guys on PP that are seemingly connected to the team mentioned a while back that he flunked out the spring semester, which makes sense in that he hasn't played in about a month and wasn't introduced with the rest of the team before the ACC tourney championship game. Haven't seen any other evidence of him still being with the team (pictures of him on the bench, travelling, warming up, etc.), so I'm assuming that it's accurate info.
6/2/2015 11:38:01 AM
i think that hostile, home crowd really affected our guys. good for TCU for earning that advantage, sucks for us that we imploded.

if our pitching staff was an Ozzy cover band they'd be called "Balk at the Moon". ..I'll see myself out.

While i'm sure Avent knew what was going down he handed all the duties of the pitching staff over to Foxhall. It was Foxhall's call.

Maryland with a State like meltdown. Blew a 2 run lead in bottom of ninth by walking 3 batters and getting no outs.

really weird to me that Stone got draftedalso, we've supposedly only had one recruit drafted so far (Christian Williams to Toronto in the 16th), which is nice
6/10/2015 3:23:12 PM
Yeah, the Red Sox are going off potential there. I know he'd been hurt for most of the season, but he didn't look good at all in his appearance late in the season.Fincher drafted by the White Sox[Edited on June 10, 2015 at 3:53 PM. Reason : Draft Update]
6/10/2015 3:32:18 PM
Yeah surprised to see Stone get drafted at all. We could definitely use another year of Britt and Olczak, but we ended up in pretty decent shape all things considered. No real unexpected losses and it sounds like we'll get the majority of our recruiting class to campus.

It was mostly over when I posted. He had a weak showing, but at least he's only a freshman. Some of those guys were in their second derby.

With the Sox out of contention (basically sense the start of May) I'm looking for a team to cheer for down the stretch run - would be nice to see him help push the Nats toward their potential this year and go on a run these last few weeks.
