^ Yeah I'm one of those nerds circa 200x that was like, "CARS ARE JUST FACE GOODS, ID RATHER HAVE EXPERIENCES". Then proceeded to jack off over a car that "DOESNT NEED OIL CHANGES, SO MUCH CHEAPER" that costs $120k.

^^ Fine sir. I was not an automotive enthusiast or petrol head. Allured by the suave marketing of Tony Stark incarnate: you can have the ultimate car and not have to take it to the oil change like those other cucks. I dreamt of the day I could have my car take me to the bar where I could smugly get drunk and tell everyone my car is driving me home. Finally, being intelligent and not a sucker, I shelled out $120k so I could save $2k on gas and $300 on oil changes.

I'm making fun of myself for spending $120k on a car and also buying in hard to Elon marketing. Carry on.

the performance difference isn't why people wanted the plaid+, it was the 520 mile range. which I bet came from the cobalt battery which probably doesn't work as expected

I don't see anything mentioned about the repeatability of the crazy launch. I ask because with the previous top Model S Ludicrous Mode took 45 minutes of prep time, and wasn't repeatable.

Don't get me wrong, insane performance stats. But being able to hit 60 in 3 seconds as many times in a row as you want would be more impressive. Or being able to do one lap around a race track without going into reduced power mode.

Also if my statement above is outdated anyone feel free to mention as much.

^ they have seriously improved on that since they introduced the Cheetah stance feature (or around that time), i don't know, about a year ago. since then it has been able to do back to back runs, and this new one is even better.

from their website:

Quote :
"With the longest range and quickest acceleration of any electric vehicle in production, Model S Plaid is the highest performing sedan ever built. Both Long Range and Plaid powertrains, with updated battery architecture, are capable of back-to-back, consistent 1/4 mile runs."

60-120 mph in 3.84 sec

as a point of reference: the $400k 765LT takes 4.1 sec

video: https://insideevs.com/news/516406/tesla-plaid-60-120-4seconds

(not surprising considering it has 1,020 hp and AWD, but still hard to wrap mind around the fact that it is a 5-seat family car, but has performance typically found in $1-3 million hypercars)

TWW on Tesla:

Quote :
"It's vapor ware. They have a one-off, non-functioning prototype. Unlike the current Tesla, which is just a tweaked Lotus chassis, the Model S is their own platform.... that doesn't exist.

Tesla needs several hundred million dollars of investment (which they are seeking from bailout money) to even have a chance at developing this. In 30 months. From scratch. With no prior experience.

It took GM 7 years to get the Volt platform to a point of a functioning prototype. Just a point of comparison."

Quote :
"If Tesla survives and is able to pay back their loans I will eat a lithium battery."

Quote :
"I maintain that pure electrics are absolutely stupid, save a very small market for very inexpensive electric city cars."

Quote :
"Automotive electric motors are sub par right now because no one has really tried to develop light 100hp motors.
Batteries... The same."

Quote :
"also, Teslas are lame. I guess I'm glad someone is trying, and it's a step in the right direction, but I respect it really only as a test mule or prototype, and can't imagine why in the hell anyone would buy one."

TWW on Chevy Volt:

Quote :
"lmao this thing is so fucking dumb. ahahahahaha

gm is the worst and deserved to die."

Quote :
"Hahahaha

This will be a greater failure than the EV1.

I'm actually a little saddened."

"Even if you just treated the entire engine as a consumable and didn't do anything but change the oil, say, once per year with full synth, you could buy a lot of 2JZ engines for the cost of a $40k battery pack and the $40k price premium of a Tesla over the price of an Elise.

Oh, and the 2JZ would be fixed/replaced under warranty for a few years, unlike the battery pack.

Oh, and you could go on a trip longer than the borderline useless range of the Tesla.

Oh, and it would still be a flyweight sports car, which is the entire point of the vehicle, instead of a porker."

^^^ The context there was that the original Tesla Roadster made no sense. I mean, I get that it was a stepping stone, but...I can't imagine why anyone would have bought one. Look just a few posts above that for the context:

^^My brother and his wife have one. Honestly I wasn't impressed. The one trick pony aspect of it got old. I will admit, however, that I really enjoyed the steering feel it had.

I got 3 months of free FSD with a referral, so if any of you are buying new I can refer you.

Impressions so far;

- Vision based parking assist is a mess, works 60% of the time, freaks out on parking garage inclines, and thinks certain objects are semi-trucks.

- Interior quality seems to have gotten better compared to previous years, still not at Audi level but better than GM/Ford.

- Even driving in 'Chill' mode feels engaging and fun, sport mode is adrenaline inducing

- The suspension feels perfect, not too stiff and not too boaty.

- Being able to access/control my car form my phone feels great

- Love the built in dashcam and sentry mode

- Running costs are dirt cheap, my elec rate is $0.12/kWh

- I recommend getting the Tesla home charger over a Chargepoint charger snice the Tesla charger comes with a button that opens the charge port. The tesla charger is also cheaper.

- The power windows are a tad finicky with obstacle detection, they don't close fully sometimes since they think there is an obstacle

- Its nice to be able to keep the ac/heat running while waiting in the car without having an engine idling

- FSD/EAP is a hot mess, they only time I had a good experience with FSD was when I drove a 2020 Model 3

- Standard Autopilot works great and takes a whole lot of stress away from driving

- The infotainment OS is great, I don't feel the need for Android auto or Carplay

- I'm looking forward to going camping with this car and using 'Camp Mode' this mode allows you to sleep in the car with the ac/heat running. I'm almost 6 ft tall and my partner and I can comfortably sleep with the back seats folded down

- I haven't been this excited about driving a car in 7 ish years. I will never own an ICE car again, driving an ICE car feels like taking a step back in time

- With Tesla opening up the Supercharger network to other manufacturers I can see EV adoption sky rocketing in the next 2-3 years

- I can see why this car has been voted the best selling car in the world for 1 Q 2023

we've already been over this on my comment, on this very page.

I wasn't talking about EVs or Teslas in general. I was talking about the original Tesla Roadster--the one based on the Elise, except more expensive and not as good.
