that scene with Barristan was pretty bad ass "I could cut through the 5 of you right now" that old white man is sick
6/7/2011 1:25:40 PM
Yeah. That scene was better for him not going on a suicide mission of killing a couple of them before being taken down. Killing them for sport isn't worth someone like him dying over.
6/7/2011 1:30:40 PM
Also, the kid's name is Robin Arryn in the TV series. It's Robert Arryn in the books.
6/7/2011 2:00:07 PM
So is the Master of Dance guy dead? I'm hoping he survived
6/7/2011 2:01:32 PM
In response to ^Possible Spoiler (even though I brought it up on the last page)it is undetermined at 4 books into the series. based on both the scene in the book and the scene in the show i believe he is still alive. but 3000 pages later and we still haven't seen him again (at least not as syrio forel) End possible spoiler[Edited on June 7, 2011 at 2:09 PM. i wonder if/how/when they are going to depart from the overall plot from the books.
6/7/2011 2:27:51 PM
they say they plan not to. They've been specifically quoted in interviews saying they would almost be stupid to try and depart from the overall story (ie meaning small changes have to be made) given the enormous amount of detailed source material and good story that brought them to want to do this in the first place.Obviously that can change down the line but I'm just posting what they have said. It is a little different than something like True Blood or Dexter which is "based on" or more or less "inspired by" the books whereas this they are trying to do an adaptation. We could still see some Lord of the Rings type changes (leaving our Tom B and ramping up Arwen's role etc.) but my guess is not major ones with the way Martin is so involved in it and the fact that a large % of their audience is made of die-hard reader fans in the first place who they are banking on buying merchandise and blu-rays out the wazoo to supplement ratings that probably will never compare to something like The Sopranos due to the subject matter.[Edited on June 7, 2011 at 2:33 PM. he's occasionally called "sweetrobin" in the books so calling him robin really isn't much of a departure.and barristen is awesome.
6/7/2011 2:34:11 PM
i think my favorite character on the show by far is Ser Allister Thorne
6/7/2011 3:50:44 PM
Yo CalledToArms stop posting in this thread. We get it, you read the books now post in the other thread. You drop constant spoilers. Ex:

6/7/2011 6:37:17 PM
OK maybe not constant but there are mad spoilers dropped (not you) in this damn thread.[Edited on June 7, 2011 at 6:45 PM. Reason : actually you've done a pretty good job of being helpful spoiler free]
6/7/2011 6:39:43 PM
I agree with you there; I wish I was a mod only for this thread. I'd modify or spoiler tag a lot of stuff in here.[Edited on June 7, 2011 at 6:42 PM. Reason : ]

Just finished ep. 8. Man what a crazy episode. Can't believe the dwarf is going to go to battle. Shit is getting crazy.
6/7/2011 11:33:05 PM
i'm really hoping Lord Eddard gets freed somehow. also, i'm really curious as to what happened to Arya when she ran off. she is actually becoming a favorite character of mine.
6/8/2011 8:49:09 AM
I'm glad that people have reacted so positively to Arya.
6/8/2011 8:52:14 AM
^ thats weird. were you part of writing the script or something?
6/8/2011 9:09:26 AM
I wonder how they are going to handle the 30 year gap between books 1 and 2.
6/8/2011 9:16:08 AM
^huh? There's no gap.

what are some other good streaming sites, other than tvduck, to watch this. i prefer streaming sites rather than downloading torrents because i have no HD space anymore.

My brother randomly threw on the first episode early last week (on demand), and ever since I've been hooked. I finally caught up and watched episode 8 live. I think to tide me over the next couple days, I'm going to go back and re-watch them again. There was so much stuff being covered in the first one, that it took me a while to understand what was going on. Plus, since there is so much going on, I forget most of the names, unless they're in basically every episode. Also, I was very disappointed after watching the first 8 to find out that there are only 10 episodes to the season
6/8/2011 2:45:56 PM
^Yeah; they really tried to cram a lot into 10 episodes. They've done very well, so far. Just watched episode 8 yesterday. Drogo scene was awesome.
6/8/2011 3:59:52 PM
will the first season (10 episodes) cover the entirety of the first book? Or only the first portion?
6/8/2011 4:24:46 PM
Entire first book
6/8/2011 4:27:01 PM
I want to see some more white walkers, not enough of them in the story line so far
6/8/2011 4:31:57 PM
jesus, i can't imagine the things left out. I love this season but it's just so whirlwind. I may have to pick it up and read it this summer then
6/8/2011 4:48:18 PM
in an odd twist, the gf is much more into this show than i am"f what you want to watch, there was a new ep of game of thrones on the dvr"she's mentioned purchasing the books.
6/8/2011 4:50:35 PM
Obviously i was joking about the 30 year gap.
6/8/2011 5:26:35 PM
obviously
6/8/2011 6:51:56 PM
But for real I did think the show/books were going to have pacing similar to "Pillars of the Earth", moving at a fairly rapid pace and finishing what like 30-40 years after it started? Seems to me like this series will take place over like 5-6.
6/8/2011 9:16:59 PM
just caught up last night.... friggin badass episode. very impressed with how well they are translating the depth of the books into hourly TV episodes.Hopefully GRRM is learning from this experience -and that will translate into quality over quantity in the final books (unlike his last two).Has anyone else noticed that Dany has lost weight/toned up since episode 1? she looks waay hotter imo
6/9/2011 12:40:59 PM
i think they've done a great job showing the change in her character's physical appearance from being out in the sun for months on end
6/9/2011 2:00:35 PM
6/9/2011 2:30:58 PM
^^^What didn't you like about "A Storm of Swords" and "A Feast for Crows"?I think the whole series is badass. Is it this months 11th day that the new one comes out, or next month?
6/9/2011 3:05:49 PM
6/9/2011 3:21:38 PM
If you don't STFU about the books, Budiss will call you the fuck out. Then shortly thereafter apologize and start sucking your dick about how helpful you've been.
6/9/2011 5:40:43 PM
Dany needs to tone up. Carrying some baby fat. Transfer some of it to Lena Headey
6/9/2011 6:30:33 PM
Hey SPOILER ALERT!!!there are three more books, and about to be another one
6/9/2011 9:47:30 PM
My little sister's H.S. graduation was this morning. So, up early, nice clothes, out to dinner with the fam has me thinking its Sunday. But, alas, one more day until a new episode.
6/11/2011 4:41:05 PM
holy...shit... best episode yet IMO
