I would like to see The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion live. I know they're playing the Pitchfork Music Festival, but that's the only date I know from them. For some reason, their website doesn't have any tour dates listed.

Would someone please give me some of this Drughorse Collective shit? Specifically the Love Language and the Light Pines?

Do they even have albums?

The Love Language have two albums. The first came out on Bladen County last year. The second comes out on Merge on July 13.

The Light Pines have a Drughorse split with Max Indian, but I'm not sure it's in stores.

Max Indian and Ryan Gustafson both have records, as does Mount Moriah.

Other than the Love Language album (the first one; the second one hasn't leaked yet to my knowledge), you probably aren't going to find any of those albums anywhere online. You probably just have to show up at one of their shows and buy the CD.

For future reference, I'm not going to post links to anything local that can be purchased, especially if it can be purchased in person by the people who made it. Support your local musicians.

Ryan Gustafson bored me. Still does.

Light Pines are good, though.

and this new Love Language is the best album I've heard in quite some time.

ha, that's one of the weaker jams for me. and it's still stellar.

to be honest, a good friend of my fiance's loaned us a hard copy...actual printed and pressed fresh from distributor. no idea how she got it, or from whom she got it. and I'm not telling who she is, either.

don't worry, I will buy it.

And when is the new Arcade Fire supposed to come out? I need to prepare for the pending immersion.

There's also a The Love Language/Let's Wrestle split you can probably still find at Schoolkids. I know it's available through Merge.

The Drughorse split is Ryan Gustafson, Max Indian and The Light Pines. You can find it at CD Alley and Chaz's Bull City.

The Light Pines have an album out of demos, I'm not sure if that's at CD Alley or not, but it's probably available at shows.

Ryan also has a split with Josh Moore that you have to order online. I highly recommend it.

The Tomahawks have a free EP, http://thetomahawks.bandcamp.com/

Josh Moore has a self-titled CD-R, http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/moorejosh/from/viglink

Jeff Crawford has a couple releases, Something For Everyone and Love Is The New Hip.

And then there's the Arbor Ridge comp, which has Drughorse artists and a few loosely connected bands, http://arborridgestudios.bandcamp.com/

Haha I know, but I swear someone told me he was and I saw someone post it in here like they were looking forward to it so I was like what heck. Maybe it was just that he was more vulgar. It was an impulse buy at best buy. It was like $9.

edit.. ah I see, he played with Superjoint Ritual. That must have been what I heard.

I miss seeing Josh Moore. Saw him live for the first time sometime around 2000 and always made it out to see Beloved around NC. I hate that I haven't gotten to see him much as a solo project but I highly recommend his recordings.

yep, this one could surpass I Am the Fun Blame Monster and Friend and Foe

I'm really surprised by how good the new Love Language record is (from hearing it played by a friend). That's not a slight to him/them by any means, but I have been very impressed. I cannot wait for a vinyl pressing on July 13th.

i concur. the arrangements on mines are killer - so many shifts within songs that you almost think it's a new song, until it brings you back again. my favorites so far are "oh pretty boy, you're such a big boy" and "tithe".

^yesssssss...first two songs are awesome, but the album cover is pretty bad. to be fair, though, the neon bible cover didn't look very good until i saw the actual physical product. maybe they'll do something cool again for the packaging.

I'm digging the Avi Buffalo album so far. The vocals may erode my interest after a few listens, although 'Truth Sets In' will still remain a regular on rotation.

I could see that. The bass or rhythm guitar (not sure which) is so low and heavy it sounds almost metal. After a few more listens, I changed my mind. I still like "Month of May," but "The Suburbs" is definitely the better song.

agreed.

i've been listening to it for the last several weeks and it's insanely good. that opening track, "excuses" is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, song this year.

you can really hear the Grizzly Bear influence on it too (produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear)
