meh. I already have multitouch everything.
3/4/2010 5:30:13 PM
from the leaked moto notes on 2/8:Droid 2.1
3/4/2010 5:48:02 PM
what is multitouch?some of the stuff listed there my eris already has, for example the pinch-to-zoom
3/4/2010 7:23:12 PM
yeah, the droid 2.1 update should have pinch-zoom in the browser, maps and gallery which wasn't in the regular android 2.0 or 2.0.1 release. The pinch-zoom in the browser on the Eris is from HTC and SenseUI[Edited on March 4, 2010 at 8:47 PM. Reason : ]

I get my next upgrade 3/18 ...thinking of ditching blackberry.
3/4/2010 8:56:09 PM
once again, is this a required update? i don't want it to slow down my eris or drain more batteryand what is multi-touch?
3/4/2010 9:05:21 PM
2.1 will be faster than whatever you have and it's definitely worth the upgrade.
3/4/2010 9:09:39 PM
ill stick with droidmod
3/4/2010 9:42:19 PM
^^ ha bet it won't be faster than what some of us are running. As for the eris, it's probably going to be a toss up. SenseUI is a memory hog. Can't wait till they finish the desire port to the droid.[Edited on March 4, 2010 at 9:48 PM. Reason : ]
3/4/2010 9:47:50 PM
i would do it just for the google maps navigation if I didn't have a droid
3/5/2010 4:49:10 AM
pptty, what is senseui? should i turn that off on the droid since it is a memory hog?what is multitouch?
3/5/2010 5:36:18 AM
wow, i just dled Mobile Stream (didnt try PDANet first) and I cannot notice it being any slower than my home wireless connection. i'm used to those verizon usb dongles and i dont think they were this responsive.i'm at carmax right now and they dont offer any wi-fi
3/5/2010 8:09:55 AM
^^ SenseUI is the HTC overlay that runs on top of the android OS devices like the Eris and Hero. It's what gives you the 7 home screens, weather/clock widget, etc. The Eris has a fairly limited amount of memory as is so disabling Sense should help but if I had gotten the Eris it would've been for SenseUI.

Looks like Swype is in betahttp://www.androidcentral.com/swype-android-now-officially-beta
3/5/2010 5:07:06 PM
what's swype do?[Edited on March 5, 2010 at 6:49 PM. Reason : ooooo, i'd like to try that]
3/5/2010 6:37:16 PM
yeah, swype is nice.looks like they're making progress on porting the 2.1 rom with SenseUI from the Desirehttp://alldroid.org/threads/15761-RAINABBA-s-analysis-of-ZuesDroid-DOES-Desire-betahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmB6Q5JWf30http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJj4sKYRmMAhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-f-XbnkdzE
3/5/2010 8:14:41 PM
i'm already diggin swype. kinda weird at first, but it's amazing how accurate it is w/ very inaccurate inputs from me
3/5/2010 8:43:27 PM
Installed the BB 2.1 v0.4 rom last night and . Currently running it with the ChevyNo1 1.2GHz kernel and overclocked to 1GHz and things are buttery smooth and just plain fast. Haven't really played with it enough to find any heat or battery issues. The live wall papers run fine but are kind of meh.http://alldroid.org/threads/15887-ROM-2.1-ERE25-Bugless-Beast-V0.4-Beta-(3-4-10)[Edited on March 6, 2010 at 11:27 AM. Reason : ]

the only gripe i have about my eris is that it only has "flash lite" and doesn't support a lot of flash videos on the netwhen will this be fixed?
3/6/2010 10:18:29 PM
never
3/7/2010 11:09:41 AM
Got on board with the nexus one last week, holy shit, why didn't I do this sooner. Android <3
3/7/2010 5:10:31 PM
damn, wish i had looked into ^ that phone before i bought a new iphone
3/7/2010 5:56:03 PM
you're kidding right? NexusOne didn't live up to what it was hyped to be. the Motorola Droid is still the best phone out there until the HTC Desire comes out on Verizon, THAT phone is what the NexusOne should have been.
3/7/2010 6:15:35 PM
^ with it's inferior ram and CPU? I think not. The only thing that's remotely enticing about the Hero is the Sense UI and the flash 10.1 support. Videos have already surfaced of the Nexus One running the Hero firmware, so if it's anything that fantastic I'll definitely be getting on board as the 2 devices will be identical from a hardware standpoint.
3/7/2010 8:59:42 PM
Ha you obviously haven't seen the problems and poor reviews associated with the N1. Plus the snapdragon has been proven not to be all it was cracked up to be. The Droid can stand toe to toe with the N1 with no problems, not to mention the superior network. And I suggest anyone who is rooted to go try Pete's 2.1 build over at alldroid.org. Just installed the Ere53 v0.6 update and wow.[Edited on March 7, 2010 at 9:17 PM. Reason : ]

Droid overclocked to 1.3 ghz is still slower than a Nexus One with Cyans rom. I have a g1 and n1 and the nexus is the best phone I have ever put in my hand, and I have played with the droid a lot.The nexus on verizon will not dissappoint.
3/7/2010 9:56:19 PM
3/8/2010 12:15:55 AM
It's a good phone but by no means the "super phone" google made it out to be. I'd look into the desire when it hit verizon but I'm more than happy with the droid and like the convenience of having a physical keyboard. I don't really think things could get any smoother on the current rom I'm running and I'm only OC'd to 800Mhz on a 1.2GHz kernel. Either way, they're both good phones and it just comes down to personal preference.

Just swapped my ancient 8703 blackberry for a motorola droid... Liking it so far! Don't think its gonna be as tough as a blackberry, but we shall see... solid build on it.
3/8/2010 2:24:55 PM
Bravo/Desire, whatever you want to call the phone coming to Verizon... it's the same exact phone as the NexusOne except multitouch, SenseUI, and on a better carrier.
3/8/2010 2:52:18 PM
well the desire will be the nations best smartphone when it comes out and will likely be an att exclusive
3/8/2010 5:27:59 PM
3/8/2010 10:32:16 PM
I'm going to argue with you all and say the HTC Supersonic is the best phone coming out for android.... and its going to SPRINT (wow). If you are not familiar with this phone, google it.
3/8/2010 10:39:02 PM
A slew of new phones are coming out over the next month.I'm trying to decide between the Bravo/Desire, Legend and the HD2. I would've gotten the Nexus One except for T-Mobile's stupid upgrade rules for that phone (I would've had to pay $530 because I'm still under contract). Kinda leaning towards the HD2 now because of the superior specs and the idea that it it'll probably get Winmo7 in some form (if not officially, then from XDA). But the Legend is getting some gushing reviews, and people seem to be really hyped about the Bravo or Desire or whatever it's gonna be called.Any suggestions?
3/8/2010 11:17:12 PM
^ Can't go wrong with an android phone.
3/9/2010 8:18:55 AM
^^i had a winmo phone. now i have an android phone. i would never think of going back.
3/9/2010 8:36:22 AM
I just want to say that Swype is fucking incredible, and the company that invented is going to be bought out for billions.

^^what he said
3/9/2010 2:39:05 PM
ha, you guys just got around to finding that out.Running Bugless Beast 2.1 v0.7 rom with AdamZ's low voltage 250MHz-1GHz kernel and holy battery life batman. I'm still at 70% when I'm usually at about 40-50% by now.
3/9/2010 2:42:43 PM
^ FYI, for some reason you annoy the shit out of me.That is all.
3/9/2010 2:52:56 PM
Ive been using Swype for a month or two now and cant say im 100% sold on it. There are still some quarks that irritate me
3/9/2010 8:32:48 PM
oh wow, just saw that swype video for the first time. that's pretty smart. and frankly, given Apple's early position in touchphones, i'm surprised they didn't come up with it first
3/9/2010 8:41:12 PM
True that.
3/9/2010 8:44:29 PM
oic
3/9/2010 8:52:01 PM
^^ just like everything else iphone, you have to actually be in the app - does not replace the standard keyboard for all apps like on android

I know, just sayin'.
