as shameless cash-grabs go, it looks pretty awesome[Edited on June 15, 2009 at 7:47 PM. Reason : the pixies box]

Why would you spend $500 dollars on that set when you can download the flac files for free and spend that money on upgrading your speakers? Some people.
6/16/2009 12:18:37 AM
Yeah but the flac files don't come in a 2 foot tall box with a drawing of a penis on it

True that. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't given up on resisting leaks and waiting for release dates, but you can be damn sure when I hear something I like via digital sources, I go and buy the real thing when it's available.Pixies are my favorite band. I haven't decided what I'm going to do, but to act like this is not damn tempting despite the cost would be a flat-out lie.I'm always interested to talk about the difference between audiophile music-lovers and those who are not audiophiles. I have three sets of speakers...old Advents, a Creative Acoustics set from the '70s that I had reconed, and some small Beovoxs. The Advents are a beat up and even break up a little at certain frequencies/volumes, but I like that. My neighbor has a quad of $2000 studio monitors that he swears by for their transparency, and he makes fun of me for using speakers that do anything but produce sound as faithfully as possible...I don't care, I like the warmth.Perhaps it has something to do with being a musician, as I also prefer guitar speakers like Blues that do weird things at breakup, but that's just a theory. Also, I wouldn't suggest that my preference is better than my neighbor's, just different.Anyway, FLAC files hold no romance for me, and to me rock music is just as much about romance as anything else.Giant artwork, mixtapes, and things you can hold are romantic.[/rant] ]

Also, hilarity from Frank Black:
6/16/2009 5:23:31 PM
$500 is insane. You have most of those songs, don't you? It's like reissues and remasters of all the studio albums. I could see a huge fan buying it at say around...$300, and even that would be ridiculous, but $500 is like a car payment...

JUST GET IT
6/16/2009 6:33:15 PM
Just get it.I have two copies of an early/rare Cave In/Piebald 7", just because. That is nowhere near as excessive as a 500 dollar Pixies box set, but redundancy never hurt anyone's collection.

This is a great blog for fans of shoegaze/dreampop. Has a bit of everything: both new and old stuffz, a bunch of peel sessions and live recordings, and some featured international artists:http://shoegazeralive2.blogspot.com/

thanks. really surprised they don't have any "amusement parks on fire" on their list though, as they have been one of my favorite shoegaze bands of late[Edited on June 17, 2009 at 9:03 AM. Reason : ]

Lukas Kasha - RevelationsI just found out about this band a week ago, and it turns out they just released an album this month. Unfortunately I don't have a download link, but you guys are resourceful (though being Norwegian and virtually unknown does not make them easy to search for, relatively). Also, they've got practically the entire album streaming from their myspace music page.[Edited on June 18, 2009 at 3:56 PM. Reason : http://www.myspace.com/lukaskasha]
6/18/2009 3:30:40 PM
they have a song available on filestubeI'll keep scanning
6/18/2009 10:28:46 PM
I've seen a couple torrents for the album but no direct downloads. Maybe one of you will pass by it while searching across the internet. But whatever, my friends.I for one used an iTunes gift card to buy it (thanks to the slightly odd gift-giving habits of some of my relatives).[Edited on June 18, 2009 at 10:45 PM. Reason : .]

I hate seeing local music leak ... but I guess it's one way to get the word out. I kinda see it as flattering that folks outside the Triangle are taking notice.Anyway, I encourage everyone to pick this up when it comes out. It really is phenomenal, especially "Matthew."http://www.sarajevo-x.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=36987&p=2795674#p2795674Doc on the making of the album:http://music.mync.com/2009/03/bombadil-tarpits-and-canyonlands-documentary/Stream "Honeymoon:"http://earfarm.com/music/03%20Honeymoon.mp3Hopefully Daniel's tendinitis will get better quickly so these guys can hit the road behind the album asap.

So I guess I'm supposed to download Bombadil at that link...but there's a goddamn 13th Floor Elevators box set!!
