we know it. the coaches know it. players know it. sports writers know it. it's pretty cut and dry really.

the only reason I want to beat ECU is so that I dont have to hear them talk shit like they deserve to be in the ACC, or ecu is a medical school, or I wasted my entire college career getting drunk and STDs.they are the bottom feeders of north carolina.I dont want to play them and would rather have bigger OOC teams to play.

oh it's definitely a rivalry, and nobody on this message board or anywhere else can change that fact.. That is why it makes it so fucking sweet to ruin your cinderella season right after it got off the ground!Suck it, Pirates :-)
9/21/2008 2:37:08 PM
This game was only relevant to me because they are a nationally ranked and recognized team. The fact that it was ECU is irrelevant to me... though it bugs me because now some state fans are calling it a rivalry as well...
9/21/2008 2:40:15 PM
OK... so lets assess the situation:W(2): W&M, ECUL(2): Clem, S. CarWith 8 games to go...(breaking up in groups of 2 to show steps of difficulty)Should Win: Duke, BCMay Win: UNC, MarylandMay Lose: Miami, Florida StShould Lose: USF, WakeOverall, I am guessing we finish 5-7 or 6-6(I would be happy with 5-7 or better considering it's a rebuilding year. Most teams regress in W-L record in a rebuilding year, so 5-7 or better should be looked at as a success)[Edited on September 21, 2008 at 2:49 PM. Reason : ]

haha if we lose out, there's no way i'm saying, at least we beat ECU. If after we had fired chuck amato, we had beaten you in 2006, after the game, it would not have made me feel any better.

Last year was rough b/c it was TOB's 1st year, but we still had decent pieces: Blackman, Stone, good DL, Bowens, Morgan, etc.We lost most all of the marginal tallent we had from last year. TOB is pretty much starting from scratch this year + tons on injuries, so this year is pretty much.. lets get these guys experience, develop our long term projects, define who our leaders are, etc. ask any expert in college football, and most all of them would agree NC State is in a rebuilding year. while 10-2 is fun to think about, shit - a winning season is fun to think about, we need to be realistic. Don't stop supporting our boys, and lets have some fun while watching these guys grow and develop
9/21/2008 4:11:07 PM
why would ecu publish this image? aren't they trying to promote the idea that the players care about that game, and that it's a big deal?

anyone ever been caught with airplane bottles inside or ever gotten a ticket at a game? Just wondering the policy regarding all that. Let me know so I can tell my friend.

9/21/2008 4:52:21 PM
not only is that one of the most retarded/overused cliches ever, but fans don't have to take it "one game at a time"
9/21/2008 4:52:33 PM
ok, have fun fullfilling your 10-2 record in your head nowwe'll follow the games as they ACTUALLY happen
9/21/2008 4:53:44 PM
the strongest argument for 'one game at a time' came two years ago when our hero and savior Daniel Evans came in and took out BC and FSU in two amazing home games in a row. I mean after that FSU game speculation was insane and things looked pretty damn good at that point, except for the whole epic collapse that was the rest of the season....[Edited on September 21, 2008 at 4:57 PM. I agree, every week will be a struggle. The 4 games which we have played have been very different from each otherS Carolina: Wilson gets hurt. Defense looks great 1st half. Evans sucks it up. We get blown out.W&M: Evans starts, sucks, Beck goes in and does well. Defense did well again, but was a little inconsitant allowing 20+ pts to a FCS team.Clemson: Wilson comes back, but didnt show everything he had. Kicking game was sad. We couldn't finish drives.ECU: Played a full 60+ min. Wilson showed us more of what he can do. Irving gets hurt (how long?). Eugene was a little rusty, but still solid. Brown is going into midseason form. Defense came up big multiple times, but still allowed The Big Play a few times.Which team will show up week to week? who knows. THAT is why we take it week by week as fans. Because every week, nobody knows which NC State team will be taking the field (and which new injuries will be added to the list)
9/21/2008 5:12:06 PM
On the way back to the car I heard an ECU fan say, "oh well, we can beat em in basketball..."
9/21/2008 5:13:55 PM
well said,,, "IF" we knew we had the type of team that could show up to play every time... then we could predict our games but i never want to predict again until that happens

9/21/2008 6:54:10 PM
Comparing this to Evan's taking over a few years ago is dumb. Wilson looked poised beyond his years yesterday. The 3 touchdown passes he threw were great. He didn't make any huge mistakes. He didn't lose the football game for us. And most importantly, he made chicken stew out of chicken shit a couple of times when the pocket broke down.
9/21/2008 6:57:08 PM
have you totally forgotten what people were saying about evans?
9/21/2008 7:06:28 PM
looks like anthony hill, no where near big enough to be Mario Williams. Don't know why he doesn't at least have a jersey on though
9/21/2008 7:17:58 PM
Mario was just a guess b/c he seems to attend a lot of big NC State games. It could be Ant Hill, but i have no idea. Kind of hard to tell.

Im so sick of the whole rivalry talk, whether you personally consider them one or not I would have to say at least on some level they are, the same level of shit talking goes on with my ecu friends when we beat them as does with my unc friends the times we have beaten them.
9/21/2008 9:24:28 PM
I wish people would stop comparing Wilson to Evans. Evans threw to WRs that made plays, Wilson made plays to get the ball to his WRs. It's a very different situation.edit: Another big part of this is room for growth. Evans' physical tools took him as far as he could go, he couldn't learn to throw the ball further or harder. Wilson's deficiencies (other than height) feel much more experience related.[Edited on September 21, 2008 at 10:09 PM. Reason : further clarification]
9/21/2008 9:40:11 PM
^exactlyI'm tired of the rivalry talk too. They are not our rival....because it isn't a level playing field in recruiting....but its funny as shit that they bend the rules and we still beat their ass. Also feels good to be the team that ruined their season.
9/21/2008 9:58:35 PM
The only sport I will consider ECU a rival in is baseball. Those games are usually pretty close and pretty heated.[Edited on September 21, 2008 at 10:26 PM. Reason : sp]

Well they were obviously the better team in the VPI game, but the refs stole it away from them. Who knows man, not worth worrying about.
9/21/2008 11:14:17 PM
well i guess yall will be thrilled to know that yates has an ankle fracture and his season is over (as is unc's)
9/21/2008 11:17:40 PM
I think ECU has won like 1 of the last 12 baseball games they have played against NC State. I only remember losing to them once in the last 5 years. And it was a walkoff home run in a 2-1 game in greenville. I may not have my numbers correct, but we have pwnt them lately.
9/21/2008 11:18:58 PM
i dont think anyone that cheers for NC State can find joy in any team's injuries. not even carolina. especially not this yearhowever i can find lots of joy in UNC's season effectively being flushed down the shitter[Edited on September 21, 2008 at 11:20 PM. Reason : ,]
9/21/2008 11:19:30 PM
I am not overly thrilled with the news. I like State playing UNC both at their full potential. It makes for games like last years. We both have major injuries, but there will always be fans that say whoever wins didn't beat the other team at their full potential. The teams will just have to play with who is available, and like usual it will be a tough game regardless.
9/21/2008 11:22:17 PM
fuck that noise.Who was ever scared of TJ Yates in the first place? This will be used as an "if we do bad this is why," excuse.
