"mrlebowski is the perfect example of most Obama supporters.

They assume Obama's plans actually will help people afford health insurance and that they are consistent with the concept that health care is a "right". I mean that's kinda sorta what he says in those lofty speeches right?

They don't really care enough to drill down and see that Obama's proposals are only about ACCESS to INSURANCE, not health care per se. And even then, Obama's proposals will only make insurance MORE EXPENSIVE."

you're so right. I've seen the light. I wish I would've done my research so that I didn't look so stupid right now. and all this time obama was lying to me. I'm gonna stick with the republicans because they would never do that. Especially about something so huge

I believe McCain meant it on a national scale, not personal...but of course can't know for sure.

So you're kinda like John Connor's mom - just continually hunker down and be ready for Judgment Day. Purely in it for you, self sufficient. The American dream on crack. I dig it, truly. Good on ye.

The Green Background Came Back in the form of some school no one recognized

The Protesters interrupted the speech multiple times (so much for good security )

The crowd kept interrupting everything so the candidate could not even emphasize a point.

I mean wtf.

I have a huge amount of respect for McCain but the lackluster delivery they keep putting forth is not helping them at all.

He is not actually. That's like me saying csharp is an example of MOST McCain supporters.

He's an example of SOME Obama supporters, but I can say plainly that I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but i'm glad he's not voting for McCain.

McCAin still has a great shot, but Obama hasn't been down overall for at least 5 months. And he's been rising in electoral college projections. McCAin is the one fighting an uphill battle (most clearly evident in his Palin desperation pick).

speaking of backgrounds, I also noticed the mansion that was on the backdrop for a while at the beginning of the speech, and wondered what it was supposed to be of. Others noticed as well

Quote :
"A lot of people were asking tonight: what the hell was that mansion up behind John McCain tonight during the first part of the speech?
.....
several readers have written in to tell me that the building is actually the main building on the campus of the Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, California.
.....
But several readers have suggested that perhaps one of the tech geeks charged with setting up the audio/visual bells and whistles for the evening was tasked with getting pictures of Walter Reed Army Medical Center but goofed and got this instead. "

backdrop:

Walter Reed Elementary School, North Hollywood

Walter Reed Army Medical Center

guess they should have gone with something that can't be screwed up. like, i don't know, styrofoam columns

Another interesting gaffe from the promo video

There was a picture of two black women shown in one of the videos, I don't know if this link will work for you guys but (it doesn't, you'll just have to trust me)

Turns out, that picture is the first result when you search on istockphoto for "african american woman"

"My fellow Americans, when I'm president, we're going to embark on the most ambitious national project in decades. We are going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much. We will attack the problem on every front. We will produce more energy at home. We will drill new wells offshore, and we'll drill them now. We will build more nuclear power plants. We will develop clean coal technology. We will increase the use of wind, tide, solar and natural gas. We will encourage the development and use of flex-fuel, hybrid and electric automobiles."

the most ambitious national project in decades? Surely he's referring to The New Deal, right?
He's proposing a national energy project as big as that? And no one is screaming bloody murder about government spending?

Quote :
"Yet, last night after John McCain spoke, the song was played yet again, resulting in a follow up statement, this time a bit more angry (hence Nancy Wilson telling EW: “I feel completely fucked over.”) This time, the statement reads:

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”

Republicans seem to have a history of misinterpreting song lyrics — back in the 1980s, Ronald Reagan often used Bruce Springsteen’s song “Born in the U.S.A.” at events despite the song’s lyrics being about the harsh effects of Vietnam on young Americans.

We suggest the GOP assign someone from its party to start reading album liner notes."

I don't know... Morning Edition's coverage of the two conventions was entirely disparate. I didn't hear a single word from Rudy's speech, nor did I hear a word from Huckabee's speech, and I hardly heard anything from Thompson. Yet I heard practically the entire speeches of Hillary, Ted "Chappaquiddick" Kennedy, and Joe Biden. The first speech from the RNC that I actually heard anything from was Palin's. And I am giving NPR credit for having nothing to really cover from the first day of the convention, too.

you're comparing apples and oranges. rudy and huckabee were not the marquee speeches those nights. the hillary speech was a huge story in itself. they would have covered just as heavily if it hadn't gone well. ted kennedy's speech was a big deal just because of his health and the surprise of it all. and as far as joe biden goes, i don't know, he was the main thing going at the dem convention that night.

giuliani, huckabee and thompson were second fiddle to other speeches those nights (by republican design -- and republicans are better for them not talking about thompson's speech by the way).

^ and I still heard nothing from the speeches you claim were the bigger ones those nights from the RNC, so your point fails to land. That I can't even tell you by whom the marquee speeches were made at the RNC speaks volumes, given that my news source is NPR, but I can tell you the headliners of the DNC.

In cultures throughout history, the artists are many times some of the smartest and most politically aware. You gonna try and tell me Bob Marley or John Lennon would be cool with their songs being used to promote war?

are you really trying to say that Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson are the "smartest" or "most politically aware?" What about Kanye West? Or Toby Keith, for that matter, despite being on the opposite side of the spectrum.

John Lennon, you might have a point. But my comment was aimed at the artists of today and of recent.

^^you seriously don't understand the difference? Let me break it down for you. Of all the influential musicians and artists of the past 40 years, I bet 99% are liberal. And no, Britney Spears isn't an artist. And influential doesn't equate to popular either. Like I said, I think you know the difference. It's fairly well-known that artists are liberal.

^I was speaking more to the musicians and "artists" even though actors are considered artists I guess. I don't really care what Sean Penn says and I agree that it doesn't hold much water. Not that him being an activist isn't allowed, but it's not quite the same. Music and fine art have historically been used for protest and raising awareness

But just cause I get down with Wu-Tang doesn't mean I agree that the black man is God body 5%ers and whites were a mutation of an experiment in the caucus mountains

thats actually kind of my issue with The Daily Show...i'd rather Stewart make jokes than try to be a serious political figure
