project v being vanguard?unless you're heavily invested in banks and mutual funds most people have been only indirectly affected by the turmoil (ripples yes, but dead center, no)
3/19/2008 11:11:49 AM
^^^ - Visa is not a credit-card issuer.- It’s not a lender.- And it’s not exposed to consumer-credit risk. The worst case scenario for Visa is if people stop using their credit cards, which would result in less transaction fees for Visa. Until our culture shifts away from instant gratification, this won't happen.]]
3/19/2008 11:12:14 AM
wow brain lapse, sorry for being retarded
3/19/2008 11:24:04 AM
its not even about instant gratification. For me its about confining spending to one specified and scheduled day of the month. I do get paid bi weekly luckily so its not that big of a deal but for people who get paid once a month this becomes even more useful.
3/19/2008 11:32:05 AM
I'm going to have to second the instant gratification theory.
3/19/2008 11:32:41 AM
i guess im not quite so sure what you mean. Cash is usually just as fast if not quicker at most places I am ever paying for anything. Restaurants, grocery store, Fast food etc.Use of credit cards come out of convenience to 1) not have to carry a lot of cash if you dont want to 2) not have to worry about the money in your account today if your getting a paycheck in 2 days that will cover what you are paying for among other things.I question any thought of instant gratification from a credit card, despite what the commercials might show. Sure some people abuse it and buy things they cant afford to pay for at all but I dont see that as instant gratification really. I also dont see that as the driving force behind credit cards.[Edited on March 19, 2008 at 11:41 AM. Reason : ]

keep in mind that you are the exception, not the rule.
3/19/2008 11:50:47 AM
I suppose. I mean most people I know and I think most people on here probably use their credit cards in the same manner I would assume. (ie not overspending)
3/19/2008 11:54:45 AM
The rest of the country: swipe swipe swipe swipe swipe...and when they max out one credit card they whip out another and start swiping again.Might as well make some money off their incompetence.
3/19/2008 11:58:52 AM
^^ i use my credit card as a credit building tool, and it has worked very well for me. if you can keep a strict rule of "if you can't write a check for it, don't buy it", you will be fine. however, most americans have never heard of this rule or choose to ignore it.
3/19/2008 12:15:20 PM
57.90, 35 shares 10 AM this morningKinda nervous about the price spike though. Who is going to buy these shares now? Just hoping to go along for a ride in the right direction.
3/19/2008 1:01:54 PM
I got a credit cards solely for the benefits (most of mine are cash back). Prior to getting them I just used my check card for everything. I pay the cards off on time every month and get cash back and good credit in return.
3/19/2008 1:25:50 PM
