well theres your problem.you got EMGs instead of SD I'm Big Business and i approved this message.

well we are also open to hooking up one of our guitars with SDs or Dimarzios. We have like 5 solid axes with EMGs at the moment so it wouldn't be a big deal to switch one or two of them out with a different set (minus having to pay for them). Theres a bunch of SDs I like though so I wouldnt know what get Although, for some of the solos we really want an old school 80s metal sound so we have been looking at http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/cutting-edge/patb2_parallel/ The two stryper guitar players used that and their tone is perfectly 80s metal.[Edited on February 24, 2009 at 10:40 AM. Do you use acoustics under your rhythm guitar tracks? That helps a lot for thickening/modifying tone. Also, if you want any P-90s/EL-84 amps, I think I can lend you some .As for an Orange, I'd try the Thunderverb.
2/24/2009 2:36:05 PM
slightly off-topic-I just recovered from some wrist surgery and plan on picking up the acoustic again so I need some new strings and other guitar accessories, can you guys recommend a good site to order from?
2/24/2009 4:14:41 PM
also off topic:i dont like pedal tuners since they're not practical for me, so i picked up one of these the other dayit's accurate and looks oh so pretty onstage as im tuning up [Edited on February 25, 2009 at 4:10 AM. Reason : link]
2/25/2009 4:09:56 AM
i love my some planet wave stuff (all my cables are basically planet wave) but the standard plastic fender tuning pedal has worked fine for me for a long time.
2/25/2009 8:02:56 AM
I've been rehearsing with my new band and because there are no monitors in the practice space we all stand opposite our owns amps and there's chords everywhere...we all have Boss TU-2s and I've stepped on the wrong one no less than twice.
2/26/2009 3:12:03 AM
both of my guitarists use TU-2's and i do think they're pretty awesome tuners, but since i only have to tune once (before the set; like i said before, i specifically play a 5 string so i dont have to juggle tunings between songs.. and my bass pretty much stays in tune for days if i dont carry it around in my gigbag) and i like not having to stare at the floor while tuning up. also, its more convientent to carry with me in my gig bag so i can easily use it at small gigs/jams/practices

put some new frets on my strat tonight.. that's something i will never f'in do again. i started at like 2 and finished maybe an hour ago? and it still isn't a good fret job, at all. i love the huge ass frets i got..but am still fighting with a few of them that don't want to stay down right and are causing some bad buzzing that even setting the action as high as i can doesn't get rid of. i'll probably end up either buying a new neck (its just a cheapo mexican strat neck so no biggie) or having someone else re-do this fret job. ah well.
3/1/2009 8:38:06 PM
Forgive me if you know about all this but these links might help:http://www.smartflix.comYou can rent Dan Erlewine's luthier DVD's (Dan is one of the best in the country) and the DVD's are LOADED with good info and detailed instruction. You can also buy them at Stewart-Mcdonald along with any luthier tool you can think of.http://www.stewmac.com/
3/2/2009 9:45:49 AM
yeah.. I'm kind of torn between buying all of the right tools to really do a good job so I'll always be able to do it myself or just saying f it and using that money to get a nice new custom made neck exactly how i want it and have it all finished/setup by someone who knows more of what they're doing. i had the basic files already from where my dad used to built acoustic guitars but he didn't really have a whole lot..and yea i bought all my stuff from stewmac.. fast as hell shipping. ordered it on wednesday and stuff got here friday using the cheapest USPS option. DECISIONS![Edited on March 2, 2009 at 11:30 AM. Reason : a]

k took all the frets back off tonight and re-did them. i figured out i didn't clean out the grooves the frets go into good enough so it was damn near impossible to get them in all the way.. after cleaning all of those & way over bending each fret past the radius of the fretboard they all went right in and it plays pretty decent now. still not perfect but at least very playable.

so my one friend who I knew had an orange has an ad30 he said. Might work for us, but I still want to try and find someone with a thunderverb to borrow since, after looking into it, that is the model that is my first Orange choice for us.[Edited on March 9, 2009 at 12:03 PM. Reason : ]

have you ever played a Vetta II?I'm Big Business and i approved this message.[Edited on March 22, 2009 at 9:16 PM. Reason : I don't think it should even be classified as solid state.]
i have never played a vetta iibut if it doesn't use tubes for output, it's a solid state amp
3/23/2009 1:26:43 PM
I have been impressed/pleasantly surprised with some line 6 stuff. This one guy at my local guitar center has had me play a few of these line 6 heads multiple times (had my own guitar there messing with some pedals and such) because he loves them. And I'll admit for the price, you are getting a LOT of bang for your buck no doubt. The effects alone are possibly worth the price if you really utilize a lot of their capabilities.HOWEVER, with that being said I still have a list of tube amps I would play before any of the Line 6 stuff if cost wasnt a factor. Especially if you are talking about an amp primarily for full band practice and shows as opposed to a "bedroom amp". Ive never found a solid state that compares to a show volume, properly EQd, good tube head. Once all those tubes are firing its a sound that is just superior to solid state imo.
3/23/2009 1:37:18 PM
i considered a line 6 for home use a few years back...they're fun to mess around with if you use a lot of effects or jump from sound to sound, but in the past two years or so i've found myself more and more using the volume and tone knobs on the guitar and my fingers to control tone shifts and eschewing effects completelyi'm in a new band and we've had a few practices, and i decided last week to haul out my old pedalboard and try some new sounds with our songs...so out came the fuzz factory, memory man, and attack sustain...and within fifteen minutes, they were back in the case. other than the fuzz factory, which is just too much fun to dick around with, i find that i'm doing much more interesting things with my playing with no effects. that's not to say that it's not a good idea to throw a delay on something and see what happens, but i'm reminded of angus young's effects rig: a 100-watt marshall on 6 for clean, and a 50-watt marshall on 10 for dirty.

hmm, weird, it stopped doing it for me, too.I think I'm still leaning towards a Hot Rod Deluxe. I'm interested in a Mesa-Boogie Mk III (or maybe a IIc or something), and I'd also like to try out a Tiny Terror and AC15/AC30, and maybe an Orange AD30 or Rocker 30. In the end, I think I'll end up wanting a Fender amp anyway, though, and a Hot Rod is pretty cheap, so I guess I might as well go ahead and get one, then end up adding something like a Mesa or Orange later on when I really decide what I want. How much difference in sound is there between different cabinets, if you go with a head/cabinet design? i.e., if you're going to have multiple amps, is it worthwhile to have one cabinet, then get different head units? Also, I have a friend who has been building effects for a while, and lately has gotten into building amps, too (he's big into using period-correct components and stuff...he pays to get special old-school capacitors and stuff, at least when he builds gear for himself). He's starting on his 4th tube amp build right now (18w Marshall clone), and said he'll build something for me for the cost of parts. I think it would be cool to have a one-off amp built by one of my friends, especially when it could probably offer more bang for the buck than a commercially produced unit. Anyone have experience with stuff like this? Can you typically produce something as good or better than commercially available gear in your garage workshop?

so i just took the neck off of my 69 Telecaster thinline reissue and put it on a mexican body i had laying around, and it looks amazing. olympic white with a finished maple neck.also having my strat's action lowered, its a 1980s model with a custom compound radius warmoth neck and it has a nice creamy white finish that you only get with age.i'll put up some pics in a bit, but they'll be from my phone
