Yeah, plasmas are done. I believe they said no new production after next year. Get 'em while you can if that's what you want.

I got a refurb from newegg and I am very happy. However, the first one arrived with a cracked screen and had to be returned (same thing happened with my other HDTV - brand new). That's a shipping issue, though. Keep your box in good shape until you are done testing it out for a week or so.

Let's be really real...is there any reason why I really need to get a 4K TV right now? I pretty much just watch sports and other cable TV shows. I have a PS3 and am not even sure I'll get a PS4 because I'd rather keep on computer gaming.

I'm looking at the Amazon black friday Samsung preorder and jsut can't think of a reason why I'd pay $1300 for a 55" 4K when they have 1080p for $800. That $500 can get me some nice accoutrements

also, remember that the curve is kind of gimmicky...unless you're sitting really close to it

also, i don't see what the refresh rate is for 4K...a lot of TVs only do 30Hz (don't know about this one)

ended up getting the 60" 1080p for $977 last night. Good thing, too, because as of this morning it's no longer on their list for preorder.

Yes. It's a four letter word, starts with "p" and ends with "n" and it's the thing that killed both Betamax and HD-DVD

I still have the RF Harmony 900. Awesome remote. I hear the new Harmony Ultimate is pretty awesome. There's even an app now that can control everything too.

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/harmony-ultimate-home?crid=60

It includes the rf/wifi/bluetooth home hub.

--Because it has bluetooth and wifi now it's compatible with Amazon Fire and some other devices:

What are yalls experience and opinion on the Sharp Aquos 60 incher?

Is that vizio from last year worth it?

And should I mount either one when I get it?

I just purchased the Vizio M series 65" for 900 on Black Friday. It is an awesome TV. If you can get the 60" for 800 or lower I would definitely do it.

seems like a good deal for a 32" 720p. Biggest thing is apparently no audio out (if needed).

I'm just looking to replace a 27" CRT in my bedroom. Hopefully I could sell the eGC for about $100 or so and have a new TV for $130 after taxes.

Thoughts? My concern would be with the audio and if it's decent/loud enough.

http://www.cnet.com/products/vizio-e600i-b3/

pretty good review
Quote :
"Black level: The E series performed extremely well in this area, coming close to matching the far more-expensive Sony W900A -- the best-performing LED LCD of last year -- and eclipsing other TVs that cost a lot more, including the 2013 Vizio M series and the other non-Vizio sets.

Watching "Gravity," a black-level torture test, both 2014 E sets achieved a deeper shade of black than any of the others, aside from the W900A, during the darkest sequences. One example came at 13:00 when Stone spins off the shuttle's arm into space; the darkness of the void looked inky and true, and the letterbox bars barely brighter than the black walls of my testing room. The 2013 E series matched its predecessors in black level in this scene, the W850B appeared a bit brighter (worse), and the other sets significantly brighter still.

Compared to any of the others, however, the E series models didn't achieve the same brightness in highlights. Ryan in her bright space suit, the white icons from my PS3, the broken arm of the shuttle; all appeared dimmer than on the other sets. So as a result in very dark scenes, both Sonys delivered better overall contrast than the 2014 E series models. Despite this issue, the 2014 E models still looked better than the rest of the lineup due to their superior black levels.

The 2014 E series was able to maintain better contrast than its 2013 predecessor, however, particularly in even darker scenes such as the second Ryan tumble through space (16:23). The 2014 E models also didn't turn their backlight off after long pauses during the darkest sections.

Blooming, or stray backlight illumination, wasn't a major issue on the E series despite a relative paucity of dimming zones. When the pair of astronauts reach the derelict shuttle, for example, the lights from their flashlights remain contained amid the otherwise shadowed interior and the letterbox bars. The 2013 M series, for what it's worth, showed much worse blooming and black-level fluctuation, especially in the bars.

Shadow detail wasn't a major issue for either set, although due to differences in calibration the 42-incher performed slightly better than the 55-incher in this area. The Sony W900A was the best of the bunch, but the E models kept pace with the W850A and the Sharp, and also beat the 2013 M series, again."

I bought a 65" samsung LED a little less than a year ago, and I regret not getting the plasma. The plasma viewing angle and saturation are noticeably better . But I don't game very much either.

I got the Vizio from Amazon. It was the same price at all retailers (it was a Vizio sponsored sale or something), I just went with Amazon because I got an extra 5% cash back. I'm not a videophile and I'm sure I wouldn't notice a big difference in the M series vs the E series, but its an awesome TV. I almost went with a 70" E-series for 1100$ but I missed the sale.

So in Target and Wal Mart right now they have the 60 inch Sony Bravia for 750 and the 65 inch vizio for 798....Which one? If I can post pics or someone can tell me I can share....also although most of our time we will be watching tv on the couch...it doesn't face windows..it will be between the windows and facing the entrance to the house...one door with a small window. That being said, should I get The tilting mount, the Fixed wall mount, or the adjustable one....(our kitchen is to the right a tad)

picked up a Vizio P70 the other week

haven't tried any real 4k but the upscaled 1080p is enough. I definitely give 4k 2 thumbs up.

I didn't have the motion smoothing/framerate multiplier (or whatever the tech is called) on my previous TV, so that's a big plus as well. I think it's funny but terrible that my wife can't discern between 24fps and 240fps.

It's still only 24 true frames being interpolated. If you're watching a movie or tv show more often than not you want to keep it at 24p. Trying to smooth movies or a lot of tv shows just ruins it.
