I've had numerous near accidents at the giant traffic circle. People do not understand how they work. ALWAYS YIELD TO WHOEVER IS INSIDE THE TAFFIC CIRCLE.

Once I was stuck behind a woman INSIDE the traffic circle (with UNC stickers all over her volvo) as she was letting people into the circle in front of her.

they should just place a few LEOs at the traffic circles. When someone fucks up, pull them and give them an explanation of what they did wrong. no ticket.

People should also learn to signal properly in traffic circles.

i park curbside everyday. haven't gotten a ticket or seen any car with a ticket

until there's a no parking sign, I plan on parking there

p.s. watch out for your wheels. i got a little too close to that lip between the street and the curb, it hopped my car up and I scratched one of my rims on the curb

How Do I Drive in Roundabouts?

Right turns

•Slow down and prepare to yield as you approach the roundabout.

•On the approach, you must be in the right lane (if it is a dual lane roundabout).

•You must yield to the traffic already in the roundabout.

•Stay to the right as you approach your turn.

•Place your right turn signal on until you have exited the roundabout.

Note: Cars in the figures show the position prior to the maneuver.

Straight ahead

•Slow down and prepare to yield as you approach the roundabout.

•Unless signs or lane markings indicate an exclusive right turn, approach in the right lane and stay in that lane through the roundabout.

•If this is a two-lane roundabout and the right lane is blocked by dense traffic or a road obstruction, approach and continue through the roundabout in the left lane.

•You must yield to traffic already in the roundabout.

•Display your right turn signal just past the exit before the one you plan to use.

Left turn or U-turn

•Slow down and prepare to yield as you approach the roundabout.

•Enter the roundabout in the left lane (if it is a two-lane approach) and stay in that lane throughout the roundabout.

•You must yield to traffic already in the roundabout.

•Signal your turn just past the exit prior to the one you will use.

Remember

•Always yield to pedestrians who may be crossing the road as you approach the roundabout.

•Always watch for pedestrians, bicycle riders and motorcyclists.

•Buses and trucks may need more than one lane to enter or leave a roundabout. Keep clear of them.

•Always yield to vehicles that are in the roundabout.

They're offering a new class in the fall to teach this. RB 102. It's a graduation requirement for incoming freshmen.

Expect eminent failure once the roundabout gets painted out for multiple lanes of traffic.

I think the lines should be an improvement to the roundabout. Especially if they paint all those arrows everywhere.

I thought it was going to stay one lane through there.

Protip: if you are traveling on Hillsborough St, yes you DO have to yield at the traffic circle. I don't know how many idiots I've seen just blowing through there and almost causing accidents. I wish they'd put rumble strips before the circle.

Traffic circles rock, but only if everybody has 2 brain cells.

I've seen:
-some chick on a cell phone going in REVERSE on the circle (missed a turn) (hint, just go around again. Circles have been round for 1000's of years, and they still don't have a beginning nor end point)
-dozens of cars on Hillsborough plow through without slowing down at all
-the beforementioned person in the circle stopping to wave incoming traffic in

We're doomed if they make that 2 lane. Especially so if it should ever rain/snow.

Pretty sure it'll be 2 lane. The size of the circle is too large for it to be just one lane.

I really wish there was a good bar/pub on one of those two northern roundabout corners that face the bell tower with a nice outdoor patio area. Would be ideal for people/traffic watching with the tower in the background. Especially on nights when the tower is red.

Some developer get on that right now plz.

i've seen this twice in the past 24 hours.

i also got stuck behind a woman at the morgan st roundabout who (in heavy traffic) waited until there were absolutely no cars in the entire circle before she pulled out.

Drivers who don't know how to properly use a traffic circle are legally retarded and should have their drivers' license revoked immediately.

Hell, once those traffic circles are fully functional, they should have someone at each new circle, impounding cars and yanking cards for the next 6 months.

That'll show 'em.

there's a 2 multi lane traffic circle at the corner of Fredrick Douglas and 110th street in Manhattan than has lights in the circle and turn lanes.

its the fucking worst.

lights in the circle? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

You want a nasty traffic circle look no further than Dupont Circle in DC. 4 lanes, medians, 9 input/output streets, all scary.

Noticed yesterday that some old streetcar tracks are exposed on Edenton east of the capitol. It's a shame that we haven't done anything with those, though they run right up the middle of the street so it could be hard to work around.

"Locopops Adds Ice Cream and Sorbets

No longer is it only your neighborhood popsicle shop. Locopops has decided to add Locopints to the mix which are pints of frozen Locopop ice creams and sorbets. Currently the company only has Mexican Chocolate and Mojito Sorbet, “with Coconut Passion Fruit Sorbet in the company’s pipeline” according to the N&O. The company will also have guest flavors as well in the future. I’m sure these will become just as popular as the popsicles. Who needs Ben & Jerry’s in this town when you have Locopints!

The Locopops Raleigh store is located at 1908 Hillsborough Street around the corner from Player’s Retreat and the upcoming David’s Noodles joint."

"Gas leak forces evacuations on Hillsborough Street

Raleigh, N.C. — Raleigh police have closed part of Hillsborough Street near the campus of North Carolina State University and have evacuated buildings in the area following a natural gas leak Thursday morning.

Angie Townsend, a spokeswoman for PSNC Energy, said a contractor working in the 2500 block, near Pogue Street, hit a three-quarter-inch service line. The leak has since been capped, and repairs were under way, she said.

Meanwhile, police are detouring eastbound traffic at Gardner Street and westbound traffic at Horne Street, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said. He urged drivers to avoid the area, if possible, until work is complete.

Further information was not immediately available.

Several businesses and buildings, including some on the N.C. State campus, have been evacuated as a precaution.

Thursday's leak comes just a week after an underground gas leak in downtown Raleigh force more than 160 people from downtown buildings for several hours.

In that case, a contractor drilling a cable line struck ruptured a 4-inch gas line beneath Wilmington Street."
