i honestly haven't heard much about that lens. I know that the nikon 18-200 vr is a great lens and can be had for ~750 in the right places.
6/10/2006 5:10:42 PM
^it is a pretty fun lense that 18-200 vr...thats just sooooo much zoom for me though. i'd rather break that up a bit.

oh, btw, i just got back from my wedding shoot...my people were crazy... twas awesome.
6/10/2006 5:21:03 PM
The nikon 18-200 VR is backordered for years. It's a great all around lens, so I hear, but if you need something now, you can make do with 2 lenses.
6/10/2006 5:36:15 PM
its not that fun

shocktsunami, i really like the cat shotand i like some of those stone shots, ronny. you definitely tend to prefer the darker end of the spectrum with deep shadows, i feel like.docido, i went to a show tonight down in raleigh this weekend, and i've gotta show you some shots if they turn out (haven't checked 'em out yet), have you had a chance to shoot anymore shows recently?-ZiP!-
6/11/2006 12:49:57 AM

I know I'd be shooting more if I had a digital SLRI'm going on my big trip for the year at the end of june. I dunno that I'd need a DRebel or that nikon tha makes chocolatervh cream his pants, but I'm also unwilling to spend money on a point-and-shoot...I dislike the lack of control (having used three different ones extensively). Anyone have any recommendations? Let's say $200 - $700
6/11/2006 1:30:26 PM
Digital SLRs start at 500.There are pretty much only 3 cameras in that price range --Nikon D50Canon Rebel XTNikon D70 or D70s. (and only if you get a really crappy off-brand lens. You might be able to swing a nikon non-zoom lens.)I suppose there might be other manufacturers, but who cares about them.
6/11/2006 1:50:02 PM
The rebel uses the new mount, doesn't it?This means no matter what camera I get, I'm not going to be able to use any of my lenses. Thanks for the start.
6/11/2006 1:52:38 PM
No SLR...but I took these pictures with my sony cybershot DSC-P5 3.2 megapixel...
6/11/2006 1:58:51 PM
where are you seeing the canon rebel xt for 500?is that the body only or a lens kit?through june 15 canon is running a 100 rebate
6/11/2006 3:21:46 PM
docido - sounds great man, we gotta catch up soonbdub - nice capture of the spider, but the colors feel a bit bland to me?-ZiP!-
6/11/2006 3:59:24 PM
I didn't even notice the sprider
6/11/2006 3:59:52 PM
the rebel uses ef AND ef-s lenses. You dont need exclusively new lenses for the rebel.
6/11/2006 4:12:27 PM
yeah the colors probably are a little bland.. like i said, i got the camera about 3-4-5 years ago (i can't remember exactly)...it is an old one, but works well. Here is another of a gerbera daisy.[Edited on June 11, 2006 at 4:16 PM. Reason : gerbera, thanks ambrosia]
6/11/2006 4:14:35 PM

his colors look a bit bland probably for the same reasons my do... it looks like he hasn't touched the pictures with photoshop
6/11/2006 11:10:45 PM
^^thats awesome coolbeansi love flash shots with long exposuresps, when at the beach, manually setting the focus point is an easy way to take shots of chicks while you make it look like you're shooting a pic of your friendkekekekekeke
6/12/2006 1:56:20 AM
my turn to "brag"! taken with rebel 35mm SLRthe rest are with a canon a75 3.2mp... i know its not an slr, but i really really really want the rebel xt, so does that count???
6/12/2006 2:39:04 AM
I see your A75 and raise you the equivalent A510. Point and shoots are still pretty capable if you know what you're doing, and love carrying a tripod all over.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 8:32 AM. Reason : .]

from a lens review:
6/12/2006 2:46:51 PM
vignetting is when you have an image that only takes up a part of the picturethink of a fisheye picture, where the image is only in a circleunless you start fuckign around with russian lenses or extreme fisheyes, you don't have to worry
6/12/2006 2:50:06 PM
I kinda understand what vignetting is, my main question was whether or not my camera had an "image sensor larger than APS-C size or 35mm SLR cameras."This is an 18-200mm lens, and the vignetting is said to occur in the 18mm range.
6/12/2006 3:04:44 PM
thanks woodfoot.vignetting--see those photos where the corners are kind of darkened. you have a APS_C if your rebel is digital and 35mm if it's not, so regardless you'll have vignetting at 18mm per review.
6/12/2006 3:55:31 PM
great fountain earlier on this page, lookin' goodhere are 2 that i'm not too happy with, but the only two i've processed so far from visiting NC last weekend. hopefully more will be up soon. my old apartment in durham, a reunion of friends:me on a raleigh greenway:-ZiP!-
6/14/2006 12:55:59 AM

went to the arboretum yesterday afternoon...here are some of the pics (cropped and resized of course)...i tried to maximize the size without making anyone have to scroll...sorry if they're still too big (let me know and i'll make sure the next set is smaller)comments are always welcome (i know my shots are pretty "typical"...nothing all that artistic)
6/14/2006 5:28:12 PM
^thanks for contributing!great colors, and great closeups.i don't see much true black though, they all feel a bit on the lighter side. the contrast could be enhanced a touch to fix this perhaps.had you shot the frog with a polarizing filter, perhaps some of the glare/reflection could be more under control (like his eyes don't feel quite right), but cool shot though.keep up the good work man!-ZiP!-
6/14/2006 5:55:20 PM
the only filter i have is a uv filter, which i keep on there more as a lens protector than for any other reasonis a polarizing filter worth buying for a n00b like me, in y'all's opinion?[Edited on June 14, 2006 at 6:00 PM. Reason : filter]
