NFLX isn't a short-term playfor me - but there's a lot of fear on Wall St. concerning downloadable and OnDemand movies. The main downward pressures are due mainly to slightly lowered outlooks in the upcoming 2 quarters (mostly because of increased costs to bringing in new members). I personally think it was heavily oversold due to a market overreaction and saw a great opportunity to get in low.[crazytalk]I have a crazy personal theory that they lowered earning expectations in the upcoming qtrs because they are planning to acquire gamespot or a similar organization[/crazytalk][Edited on July 25, 2006 at 5:25 PM. Corn is tough on the soil. Have to either do some hardcore fertilization or rotate it with something like soybeans.

HAHAHA aapl...did u see it rise after the gap up it had... im at a $7 per share gain. can't go wrong with an apple (thanks to the ipod)SCUD....i definately am thinking of NFLX...after reporting profits like that and dropping. it seems as if it is onsale right now. anyone else agree? screw the fea, its what people are doing. i see the rich people and the middle class all using netflix.

wow, so china's leading search engine only has 24-30million in revenue per quarter?
7/27/2006 10:57:36 AM
ya, they will probably net $1B this yearnot a bad a start. in the late 90s "new economy", so called next big things in the US were bringing in the same amounts.its only now in the "new, new economy", that we're seeing real revenues and earnings from these next big things.i think BIDU has staying power, but it got beat up because like the article said, they only hit the ball out of the field, and not out of the stadium

Exxon continues to roll around in the skrilla.http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/060727/earns_exxon_mobil.html?.v=11 "Revenue rose to $99.03 billion from $88.57 billion in the prior-year quarter." "Exxon Mobil Corp. said Thursday it earned $10.36 billion in the second quarter"I like this number"The company's profit - which amounts to a cool $1,318 a second is thesecond biggest ever reported by a U.S. company, behind only the $10.7billion Exxon itself earned in the fourth quarter of 2005."

GM did really well also.I was expecting more than just a weak morning rally.
7/27/2006 2:05:43 PM
the talks with nissan and GM are probably going to make GM rise a bit
7/27/2006 2:08:15 PM
That boosted them a while back. GM was up to $32 today. They were expecting $0.55/share and ended up with $2.03/share for Q2.Of course I did covered calls on all of mine at $27.5 last week
7/27/2006 2:10:36 PM
I think it's hilarious that XM is trying to blame the FCC for slowed subscriber growth. I still way unconvinced on investing in satellite radio as long as more than 1 provider exists.I think SIRI reports friday - those of you that own should hedge...I'm still bearish on them.
7/27/2006 2:27:26 PM
NFLX isn't going to be doin too great. Blockbuster offers an online movie rental thats twice as good as netflix and lets you use the stores too. 1 day turnaround time.....bail outa nflx before it looses another 20%
7/27/2006 2:44:51 PM
You're crazy - Netflix's offerings and distribution channel is way more mature.Blockbuster is an absolute dog right now - they are pouring crazy amounts of money trying to change their model but imho it's too little too late. They are still burdened by BM presence across the nation that is becoming increasingly more costly and less profitable. BB completely melted profitability by removing late fees last year. The only thing BB has going for it right now is national brand recognition (which has been going to the wayside with the rise of Hollywood/Movie Gallery) I think you are seeing a dying company grasping for straws. If anything the OnDemand model affect BB way more than NFLX. OnDemand supports laziness for people avoiding having to make [b]4[b] trips to rent a video and return it etc. NLFX isn't really affected by that type of spontaneous or impulsive rent largely because of the subscription model. There are a lot of overlooked features of NFLX that aren't really discussed right now. Primarily the Friends and Recomendation features that provides a degree of social networking that will increasingly drive new subscribers and are way more mature than anything BB can offer atm. Oh yeah did I mention NFLX is up $1.04 right now
7/27/2006 3:00:47 PM
7/27/2006 3:24:24 PM
^^ yea up $1 today, down $5 two days ago......Im not saying netflix is bad, but BB has distribution centers in charlotte, which from raleigh is a 1 day turnaround, send on monday, get a new one wednesday. BB offers the same price as netflix and then gives you coupons for all those in store impulse rentals. now under no circumstance am I saying invest in BB stock.....thats doomed due to nflx/walmart/hollywood video/on demand.....but between going with a dvd mailer, bb all the way
7/27/2006 3:44:33 PM
Exactly I only signaled a buy opportunity on the $5 slide...it was an obvious overraction due to overexaggerated competition from non-existent solutions and increased cost to brining in new subscribers (read: increased marketing and free trials)The (now $1.18) increase today is the correction I was looking for after a con call lastnight spelling out those competitive forces and NFLX future in the $8bln segment. From here I am simply looking for organic growth.
7/27/2006 4:00:02 PM
NFLX - 39 distribution centers BB - 23 distribution centers
7/27/2006 5:21:15 PM
You hedge SIRI by buying XM

I looked at EWW and EWC today and was set to buy some as soon as I could get a good price for some of my other holdings that I want to ditch. But then they mentioned both of them on Fast Money tonight. Prices on each will be up by at least 2% tomorrow.

Question for you stock market guru's out there.... I have a stock in my portfolio.. almost a penny stock (Nasdaq: HOTJ)... I was looking my portfolio up online tonight and the "ask" was 2,000.... I am new to this and I think that it must be a typo...The stock closed at 1.38?? Can anyone help me break this down.... did I find something good or is this to good to be true....Thank you TWWer's
8/2/2006 9:15:21 PM
very common for OTC stocks - ask goes to a very large number after hours. it will go back down to 1.38 when the market opens in the morning. don't ask me why, but that's just how it is.
