But there's lots of R2s in the galaxy, though.

yeah, the more familiar ship designs were coolI think they were all swoopy and such because in eps I and II it was a more "civilized" age, where the empire was a war machine, more interested in sheer operational ability and not how they looked.

episodes 1-3 have to be seen as essentially one movie, they all need each other to be considered good, to achieve continuity, to achieve anything the remotely resembles what the original trilogy wasepisodes 4-6 aren't as dependent upon each other, each movie stands out by itself. now whether that's because it came first, has a better story/actors/dialogue/whatever the movies themselves can stand alonethe whole series shows a transition from a time when things were bright, elegant and beautiful to a time where everything was dark, manufactured and not as aesthetically pleasing. this is shown in the architecture and the design of everything from buildings to ships to weapons to people. so if you don't like the episodes 1-3 b/c things look differently, then within the context of the story that's a bad reason to not like the movies because they weren't supposed to have all the same things as the originals.this is one of those cases where the whole is greater than the sum of the two halves. look at the series from the point of view of the entire series rather than 6 individual movies or two halves and the experience may be more enjoyable
5/19/2005 4:01:32 PM
yeah, i think the reason lucas didn't go into a drawn out explanation of the darth vader suit is because of the intercut between anakin's restoration and padme's death. it was more a metaphor than anything else: the death of goodness/the rise of evil. that's also probably why they didn't allow anakin's body to even stop smoldering before they put him in the suit.
5/19/2005 4:03:19 PM
darth vader acknowledges c3po in the OT right?
5/19/2005 4:08:06 PM
aren't they ever only on cloud city together? and 3po's all broken and stuff
5/19/2005 4:09:02 PM
Could Syfo-Dyas be the guy that Palpatine was talking about who taught him the dark side.
5/19/2005 4:09:13 PM
nahthat dude was most likely palpatine's masterthe clones were instructed to be made around the time of episode 1by that time palpatine was the master and darth maul was the apprentice
5/19/2005 4:11:19 PM
I liked it and found it very entertaining and fitting as the missing link in the Star Wars saga.
5/19/2005 4:18:13 PM
did anybody else's theater let out a kind of "arghhhh" grunt when jarjar finally made an appearance, it was kinda oddit was like "yes, we all hate the motherfucker, but damn - this is a moment"
5/19/2005 4:20:35 PM
Yeah i heard it when i saw it, but the one reaction that stood out in my mind was when Yoda comes in to confront the emperor and he knocks the Imperial guards out of his way. Most of the theatre marked out for that one.
5/19/2005 4:27:54 PM
so what is the drawn out explanation of the vader suit?
5/19/2005 4:28:36 PM
It always bothered me that the original trilogy never offered up any explanation for why Vader was in the costume to begin with. We're just expected to accept that some guy in a robotic suit needs it to stay alive and not ask why. It never really made any sense.
5/19/2005 4:36:53 PM
I agree, they should tell the entire backstory for every character in every movie ever.
5/19/2005 4:39:15 PM
^^^There really isnt one. Its basically an advanced life support system. The reason he dies in Ep6 is because the emperor's lighting fucks up his suit, and he essentially suffocates to death.
5/19/2005 4:40:44 PM
^^Or, you know, like a sentence or two of explanation about distinctive characteristics.[Edited on May 19, 2005 at 4:42 PM. Reason : .]
5/19/2005 4:41:45 PM
It isnt necessary. Just accept some things. its ultimately revealed anyway in ep 5 and 6
5/19/2005 4:43:08 PM
Obi-Wan says he's more machine than man. What more do you want? Why does Chewbacca wear that belt? Why does Lando rock the fruity cape?
5/19/2005 4:44:50 PM
belt and cape aren't essential to the character, they just accentuate those charactersthe suit is vader in his present formno suit = no vader
5/19/2005 4:45:56 PM
^^
5/19/2005 4:46:25 PM
I was thinking about that last night, and eventually thought that having everything explained in Ep3 and seeing the creation of Vader really took away the Mystique of Vader in ep4, 5, and 6.I really liked the fact that you werent sure of his origins, and just accepted him to be the evil badass that he was. As the series progressed, more and more was revealed, but still not everything. Having or needing everything spelled out can ruin alot of things for a movie.

Dagobah is overflowing with force energy, both light and dark. It was why yoda was able to remain hidden there. Luke, even with his minor training, was probably able to pick up on it.
5/19/2005 5:42:52 PM
Just to back up a bit, I thought the News and Observer's review was a bit off. It complained of any lack of real affective dialogue. Personally, I felt the dialogue was kept at a pace with the movie that flowed fairly well (give or take a few scenes).
5/19/2005 5:47:33 PM
^^yea,if you read the Timothy Zahn book, Heir to the Empire, which takes place about 5 years after Vader's death, it kinda explains why yoda chose dagobah and why he was able to stay in hiding[Edited on May 19, 2005 at 5:55 PM. Reason : wrong author]

5/19/2005 5:54:30 PM
all in all i thought it was a pretty good movie my criticism from the start was the abundant use of cgi, but then again, you would be hard pressed to do a movie like this without it (see lotr)
5/19/2005 5:57:41 PM
I dunno if anyone's mentioned it yet, but anakin's tatoo-ish markings from the last episode of Clone Wars are missing from his body in the movie. Not a huge deal, but a real inconsistency.
5/19/2005 6:14:29 PM
I just got back from seeing it for the second time. It was awesome. Better than RoTJ, and it just made A New Hope that much better.
5/19/2005 6:58:06 PM
two words:utter disappointment.BUT, it shouldn't have been, since I should have known what to expect.I guess I'm as guilty of a hype-sucker as anybody else.Seriously, that movie was just fucking stupid. I'm sure everything's been talked about, but damn...
5/19/2005 6:58:35 PM
^^you're a fucking douche nozzle if you thought that movie was any good, and have the audacity to compare any of this shit to the unadulterated pre-1997 trilogy...[Edited on May 19, 2005 at 7:00 PM. Reason : faggot]
5/19/2005 6:59:29 PM
Yeah people who's opinions differ from my own suck.
5/19/2005 7:00:22 PM
That's really mature, dude.It was damn good, and the fact that you consider the rereleases to be shit tells me that no new Star Wars movie -ever- would have been good enough for you."OMFG, BUT I WANTED LIGHTSABERS TO STOP GLOWING WHEN VIEWED FROM THE TOP, AND ADDING FIVE MINUTES OF CGI TURNED MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME INTO UTTER CRAP. WAH."
5/19/2005 7:11:20 PM
It will most likely require numerous viewings of all six episodes to reach an ultimate decision, but I feel this may be the second best episode, right behind episode five.^^^Oh, the audacity. [Edited on May 19, 2005 at 7:12 PM. Reason : ^]

^ I'd say III would be better than IV, if III hadn't made IV so much better.if that makes any sense.I mean, now I'll really care when Obi Won gets killed. Speaking of which, Ewan McGregor just completely redeemed himself.[Edited on May 19, 2005 at 7:22 PM. Reason : .]

5/19/2005 7:28:14 PM
It's pretty clear that anybody who thought this movie was worth two shits is pretty fucking lame, unintelligent, uncreative, needs their shit spoon-fed to them, is bias because of the name Star Wars, sucks George Lucas' cock, has no sense of humor, is mentally under 12 years-old, has no direction in life, has no values, doesn't know what a movie is defined as in terms of plot/acting/character development/cinemtography as a whole, is a dilettante, probably likes the latest Star Trek movies, bought a Sega CD and Dreamcast new, drank Orbitz, tastes steak sauce sometimes for fun, has a cat named Garfield or a dog named Rex or the like, goes to shows at the Brewery, goes to LAN parties in a dorm lounge, is awkward around people in general, expresses themselves in poems, posts on a LiveJournal, voted for Denis Kucinich, has a subscription to the Sharper Image catalogue, was fed on Infamil as a baby, still quotes Napoleon Dynamite expecting laughs, actually bought a ticket for Daredevil and is anticipating Elektra, jerked off at the Batman Begins preview, rents DVD extras for a full price, has an answering machine with mini cassette tapes, reads Clive Cussler books, has never been to the gym, and generally sucksat life.

yeah, no shit. she's the type of ultra nerd waste of life that makes going to movies basically no fun.User Rating: ****** 8.2/10 (2,768 votes)I guess an almost 3grand of smart, intelligent, and culturally sound IMDB users are crazy for voting this a 8.2 / 10. Let's just throw every single person in the trash. What a fucking joke you are
5/19/2005 7:40:49 PM
Using a populous opinion is what keeps Hollywood drivel in the theatres. Apparently you're no stranger to trolling, but blanket statements about idiosyncratic habits (such as liking this movie, or at least settling with it), like the ones I made, are probably pretty common in the people who liked this sorry assed excuse for a movie; but apparently it's something you're a stranger to...even in your own midnight madness fanatical surroundings...[Edited on May 19, 2005 at 7:45 PM. Looking back at all 3, I really think Obi-Wan is now my favorite character of the prequels. I just love the way he ends the thing standing at the top of the ramp. Anakin is still his Padawan, that much is so obvious from the fight. Just his confidence and his willing to teach Anakin a lesson finish and round out this character. Plus his disgust at having trained and raised this boy for 13 years and having him turn on him and reject all the love and effort he put into him. Loved Anakin being the new archetypal tragic hero. There's nothing Sidious' plot and his pride and lust for power, as well as his inability to let go doesn't destroy for him--his body, his wife, his friends. Really finished out the whole double trilogy very well. Very pleased with how the movies turned out.[Edited on May 19, 2005 at 7:53 PM. Reason : .]

ps, hey cocksucker - Cronicles of Riddick is rated three stars on cable right now. I guess I should like shit like that too. God, this is pointless. I can't believe there's actually a subculture of you mongrels that actually appreciated this movie. I think my theory is that you people feel you missed out as a kid on these or something. Shit, I saw Jedi in the theatres. I hope you realize your lame tagalong generational rail is failing miserably at Star Wars movies...
5/19/2005 7:48:12 PM
I haven't even seen it yet, but you need to chill the fuck out dinah. We get it already; you thought the movie sucked big fat floppy donkey dick. That's fine, that's YOUR opinion. But just because you disagree with other people's opinions doesn't mean you're somehow better than them. Tell you what, you go and make a Star Wars movie that's just as good, if not better, as this so called "drivel" for which you you oh-so love to express your hatred. If you can do that, if you can blow us all away with mind-numbingly good plot, character interaction and development, and all the other fixin's, we'll all stfu and listen to anything you have to say.
5/19/2005 7:50:47 PM
