I'm holding out for the off chance a nexus 5 really happens, or barring that a note 3
6/24/2013 4:44:20 PM
^ When's your upgrade available, now?
6/24/2013 5:18:30 PM
I got the gnex on verizon when it came out, so 2 years after that I guess? December of this year?
6/24/2013 5:32:48 PM
is that galaxy s4 active one that is water proof etc really that good?
6/24/2013 10:01:48 PM
i suppose it depends on what you're doing and what you're willing to pay...i assume the active is more expensive, but i haven't priced either recentlyIIRC, the biggest difference in the hardware (outside of the water/dust resistance of the active) is that the active has a TFT display and the "regular" S4 has super AMOLED...i assume that means that the active's display will be better in sunlight and brighter overall (which makes sense, since it's marketed as a more "outdoor" phone)i think the active is thicker and heavier and i recall reading that the active's main camera has a lower resolution than the regular S4, but i don't know if that's true[Edited on June 25, 2013 at 8:41 AM. 6/25/2013 8:40:33 AM
^^^ I did the same (actually a little later than you), but back then Verizon had a < 24 month upgrade cycle (20?), so you might be eligible sooner than you think.
6/25/2013 9:18:19 AM
I thought they killed that
6/25/2013 8:01:41 PM
6/25/2013 8:30:20 PM
yeah, I'm still on the fence as to what I'm going to do about that unlimited thing

Losing unlimited is really gonna kill me

FYI, I had a big loss in battery life with my Droid Razr Maxx over the past week. It barely lasts me 6 hours, when it was normally good for an entire day if not more. The new Outlook app was absolutely eating the battery at about 33% of usage (vs Gmail at ~3%) Removed the app for now (just used for an old email account) and seeing if it gets better.
7/12/2013 2:47:36 PM
Okay so my google nexus 4 has a lock screen on it. the password is 6 digits, however, the screen is broken and doesn't recognize the three anymore. Is there a way to unlock this phone?
7/13/2013 4:40:25 PM
if you fail enough it should ask you to log in with your google account

I finally joined the tablet party; mainly because my job has so much downtime in between Blade migration and new remote PC imaging.First I thought about the NVIDIA Shield, but I didn't want to carry around a 360 controller as a tablet, lol. I do really like some of the features it will have though, like being able to use your GeForce 600 Series and up video card to stream straight to it over WiFi.I ended up going with a 32GB Nexus 7 ($199 w/ 6 months no interest financing, lol) after comparing specs/features/pricing and I didn't want anything near the size of a ~10" or larger device. Hell I was hoping the Nexus 7 would have been a little smaller than it is.I definitely have all the games I need/want (everything Tegra optimized that are worth a shit). What are some of the must have apps for a tablet? I see all these lists online and I have some they mention, but I feel like I am missing some of the obvious.Anyone care to share some must haves?
7/19/2013 11:00:04 AM
you bought a nexus 7 at like the worst time, dude
7/19/2013 11:05:20 AM
I know the new one is coming, I don't care.
7/19/2013 11:06:45 AM
7/19/2013 11:07:12 AM
thanks for all the app suggestionsyou know I am in IT, you know I know about the upcoming 2nd Gen Nexus 7 then...it lacks a Tegra 4 and that is a big reason why I don't care about it, not to mention it isn't supposed to change the price of the current Nexus 7 much, if any and it is going to be close to $300 for the 32GB model.[Edited on July 19, 2013 at 11:12 AM. Well it's still going to have a pretty powerful processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro). The biggest change obviously being the 1980 by 1200 resolution. I'll probably pick one up if it's really $229. So yeah you picked the wrong time to buy a Nexus 7. A couple more weeks and $29 more and you could have gotten a much better tablet. Or $269 for the 32GB version.

7/19/2013 2:24:25 PM
That 7" 1980 by 1200 screen is going to be sicccccck nasty.
7/19/2013 2:31:43 PM
i'd consider a revamped nexus 10

Did you even read what I said? I know it is cheaper other places, but I'll pay $20-$30 more than Staples to have 6/mo No Interest. I was simply pointing out the price came up at NewEgg, so it wasn't the worst time, dude to get it there. Also Staples isn't going to offer as much as the Iron Egg Guarantee does (which was also removed, along with the price bump if you bought it now). Hell now that I think about it, I will contact NewEgg and have them match Staples and knock $30 off.Ah shit, that is only with a promo code and only available in store. With Tax (since you have to buy in store) it is only $17.60 cheaper even with the $30 off promo.[Edited on July 21, 2013 at 8:29 AM. Reason : _]

I think I am gonna wait until the Galaxy Note 3 comes out before I make my next Android purchase. I will probably never (like never ever) buy an iPhone and there is a VERY small (like subatomic small) chance that I may go back to a Windows phone, but at this point its looks like Android is the clear winner for me since I have invested in a lot of apps with them.
7/22/2013 7:33:38 AM
Yeah I'm hoping the Note 3 isn't much larger. It would be neat if they did what they did with the S3. Larger screen but smaller phone.
7/22/2013 11:29:57 AM
I just bought my wife a Nexus 7 for a good price a few weeks back. I think it was $179 at Staples plus she had a $20 GC to Staples from work that we had never used.. I already knew a new one was coming out but I wanted to get her one now and figured the new one wouldn't have much that was a "must-have" for her. There is always new technology coming out so I don't get too hung up on that unless there is a reason that a new version is just THAT much better. At $159 it does everything she wanted and at $230 for the new 16GB model, I made the right choice for us. The new ones will be great for the price still though, but there's nothing to make me second-guess my decision.[Edited on July 22, 2013 at 12:45 PM. Reason : ]

When most new phones have 1080p screens now I just wouldn't waste money on a 7" 720p screen. The 1080p screens look so gorgeous. When I had a Nexus 7 it was great but the screen was pretty low res for the size. I'll probably be getting the 2nd gen.
7/22/2013 4:02:40 PM
I've had a nexus 7 since release and lately its been lagging too much for me to handle. I'm looking forward to ordering the new nexus 7 on wednesday. I'll sell my in near mint condition nexus 7 with a dock to a willing buyer for much cheaper than you'd get it now after I get the new one.Got the gf sony's gs8 GTV box over the weekend. Interface is great, it's incredible responsive/quick, and highly recommend it for anyone looking for that kind of thing. Didn't really test its true "buddy box" capability by hooking it to her cable box, but it's a damn good device.
7/23/2013 2:20:28 AM
yes please
7/23/2013 9:57:00 PM
what is that supposed to be?
7/23/2013 10:01:37 PM
from the box art, it looks like a nexus 7

Verizon is announcing a bunch of new Motorola Devices...its about damn time. http://droiddoes.verizonwireless.com/?MID=13451&RID=107720766&CMP=EMC-A-S-C-Droid_PO_0713_IH_1&EMHID=DD21AD37C0BA1865AD7C23C50C88F7DB&CUHID=E1583E4C8FA54F0CB9FA01EC656DBD5F
7/23/2013 10:29:28 PM
Hey, does anybody know if now would be a good time to buy a Nexus 7? I can get no interest financing for like, 6 months if that factors into the equation at all.
7/23/2013 11:02:16 PM
^You need 6 months of financing for a $150 purchase? And I think the bottom will fall out (especially the 2nd hand market) a month or so after the new 7 hits store shelves. If you're looking to buy new, I think the ~125$ mark is about as low as they're likely to go at retail.

To buy now or wait for LTE... I don't really think I'll get a sim card for it anytime soon, but there's always the maybe in the future.

Hey guys, I've got what will probably turn out to be a stupid question. Also let me preface by saying I've searched on Google for this and haven't found exactly what I need, and wasn't sure what to search for on this board exactly. And sorry, but I'm not going to read all 189 pages of this thread. So, here's the obligatory I'm really sorry if someone already asked this and someone can find it really easily, please don't kill me or tell me to die, it hurts my feelings.Anyways, I just got the S4 Active and love it but I'm having trouble with this one thing that will cause me to return:It seems that when I activate voice control, either by double clicking the home button or long pressing from a headset, it opens up the SVoice App, but doesn't start actually "listening" to me until I press on the microphone icon at the bottom. Is there any way around this, so that I can activate voice control from a headset and start talking? If not, what the hell is the point of voice control if you have to press a button on the device anyways?update: I figured out if I set it to wake up on a voice command like, "Hi Galaxy" this takes play of clicking the microphone, but since it says keeping that voice command option on drains battery, it would be nice if I could just bypass this step[Edited on July 26, 2013 at 8:04 PM. I should probably start playing with the HTC one. I mean, I've had it since a few days before release and I haven't so much as rooted it. I'm tempted to convert it to a google edition, I assume that's something I can do at least.
7/28/2013 1:03:06 AM
7/28/2013 1:18:24 AM
^^seems to me that I remember some debate about whether the Google edition made it a worse phone... Some of the features of the sense phone are lost, like a superior camera to the asop camera, among others. It makes sense that there would be some feature loss, but I guess its a trade off between that and faster updates.
7/28/2013 7:26:39 PM
so my employer just upgraded their MS exchange (from 2003 to 2010(?))...and thus I had to redo my work email on my phone.... holy shit... admin rights to my phone? yeh... no thanks, I'll just be less productive because of you.
7/29/2013 9:02:09 AM
^yeah, i had to seriously read up on the whole "can remotely wipe your phone if they feel pleased" thing.
