Here's my question after today: Do I go ahead & buy a Nexus 7 now? I've been wanting a ~7" tablet for books, reading & social media with a little bit of gaming. Was hoping for a spec bump today. Any suggestions? Should I wait?[Edited on May 15, 2013 at 3:53 PM. Reason : punctuation]

^^ i haven't allowed it to update, yet, for that reason
5/17/2013 10:51:55 AM
hangouts is the stupidest fucking name google has just slapped on everythingi could understand "meet" or something that would not sound retarded in a business setting, but hangouts is ridiculous
5/17/2013 11:59:38 AM
Google "Let's Do Lunch, k?"
5/17/2013 12:03:34 PM
i'll care more once they add in sms
5/17/2013 3:20:03 PM
two nexus 4s on net10 one on unlimited under T-Mobile other stops at 1.5 GB on ATT ~93 dollars a month
5/18/2013 5:53:30 PM
Hangouts isnt bad per se, but its a little half baked. I liken it to vista... It looks pretty, but there's some under the hood work that needs to be done. Not big on the name, but I'll just keep calling it talk.
5/18/2013 6:20:15 PM
It's hard to tell who's online unless I'm missing something...
5/20/2013 6:26:42 AM
if their icon isn't faded, they're onlinedepending on their icon though, it can be difficult to tell
5/20/2013 9:28:49 AM
1) i got a "message not sent- resend?" once2) messages seem to take a while to send/receive (up to 30 minutes for a couple)hangouts whyyyyy
5/20/2013 9:47:06 AM
i'm going to wait for tww to tell me when hangouts doesn't suckin the meantime, talk isn't getting updated
5/20/2013 9:48:01 AM
on the web/gmail version of hangouts the person is online if there is a green line under their picture
5/20/2013 8:36:06 PM
i suppose im in the minority that likes hangouts.doesn't seem to big a departure from talk at all, and has been easier to get video chat going with people not hip to the google craze
5/21/2013 12:36:53 AM
^ agreed. hangouts is solid as hell in my opinion. I had been using Google Messenger for a few years and I usually had problems sending messages if my internet wasn't top notch, but I've had much more success sending pictures and messages with Hangouts. the only downside for me was that the ROM that I had installed had Talk built in and I wasn't able to figure out how to uninstall it and update hangouts so i'm back on stock ICS now :/
5/25/2013 12:10:28 PM
^I had to use titanium backup to uninstall talk, then was able to install hangouts[Edited on May 25, 2013 at 12:36 PM. Reason : im on cm10.1]
5/25/2013 12:35:38 PM
You can force install via Play website, press Install and choose your device.
5/25/2013 3:36:41 PM
So I'll be able to upgrade in 3 months. Am I still deciding between the HTC One and the GS4, or will there be something else to consider, or something that will be coming out not too long after that?
5/27/2013 9:45:07 AM
^I've been thinking of going with the GS4 whenever I get this $100 rebate card for installing AT&T Uverse. The only reason I say that is because I don't wanna go with another HTC phone after the Thunderbolt debacle.
5/27/2013 9:52:22 AM
meh my thunderbolt treated me well for the 2 years I had it, however I'm still leaning towards the gs4 ...if I wanted "less is more" I'd get a flip phone.
5/27/2013 8:01:50 PM
there's still weak rumors about a nexus 5 in Novemberthe Motorola xphone isn't anything specialI'm interested in a Note 3
5/27/2013 9:23:00 PM
dont you already have a Note?[Edited on May 27, 2013 at 9:30 PM. Reason : add another note]
5/27/2013 9:30:45 PM
me? I still have a gnex
5/27/2013 9:37:53 PM
I like the Note, but I just can't carry around a phone that damn big.
5/27/2013 9:58:47 PM
I don't mind the Note II. It's not too big for me although if they increase the overall size with the Note 3 I may have to switch to something smaller. The rumored 6.3" screen is just too big for a phone.
5/27/2013 10:58:20 PM
Damn. 6.3". It's like they're trying to eliminate the 7" tablets and merge them with smartphones with slightly smaller screens that can actually fit in your pocket. Of course, I see the allure. A 7" tablet sells for about $180-250 for a decent one. Whereas the Note 2 goes for $700 (you can find it cheaper, of course) for an unlocked phone, or you can sign a 2 year contract (makes the carrier happy), get a subsidy which brings the price down to the 7" tablet territory. The profit margin on phones, from what I can tell, is far higher than tablets of comprable specs. Yeah, there's a little more investment that goes on in the tablet (like Antena), but even 4G Tablets go for about $300 or less, which is still about half the price of a high end smartphone.I personally don't like the drive to merge everything with phones. *sigh*
5/28/2013 12:27:01 AM
That latest android upgrade from Verizon on the GNex has killed my battery life, as well as made the phone not nearly as responsive. Camera app is pretty horrible, too. Tired of changing settings when I just want to swipe and see the photo I just took.
5/28/2013 12:58:16 AM
I have a Galaxy Nexus (Sprint). I haven't found time to root it. What is the best app out there for USB and WiFi tethering? I don't care if it's a paid or unpaid app, it just needs to work well. Also, performance wise is USB tethering faster than WiFi tethering?
5/28/2013 8:18:25 AM
^^ what update?^ SVTP works wonderfully for me. They have a free version you can try and ensure it works. Then the paid version is either $5 or $10. Worth it either way.
5/28/2013 9:14:13 AM
^ the update up to 4.2.2. One of my major annoyances is the revamp of the camera / gallery app. Now to see the picture you just took, you have to swipe - which half the time results in a long-press which changes the settings
5/28/2013 9:21:49 AM
SVTP didn't work I am using the Sprint Stock ROM version 4.2.1[Edited on May 28, 2013 at 9:39 AM. Reason : .]

5/28/2013 9:34:38 AM
^^i think foxfi is one a lot of people use
5/28/2013 11:34:20 AM
^ FoxFi is not compatible with the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint. I think it only works on Android version 4.1 and below.[Edited on May 28, 2013 at 1:12 PM. Reason : .]
5/28/2013 1:11:55 PM
^6. 4.3 is supposed to fix that. They found a nexus 4 with 4.3 on display at some Taiwanese trade show. The camera settings were tweaked... Instead of a circle, it forms an arc. No thumb covering options, no option selection when you swipe.
5/29/2013 12:32:15 PM
^ great, now just another year or two until Verizon releases that
5/29/2013 3:42:43 PM
just got my invite to the new google maps...i've only spent 15 seconds (literally) look at it, but it seems more polished, more refinedi'll play around with it tomorrow
5/29/2013 4:01:32 PM
It's missing all the layers (traffic, terrain, etc) so I had to revert back but other than that it was cool.
5/29/2013 4:21:55 PM
^^^to be fair they were quick with 4.2.2.... But obviously held off on 4.2.x upgrades for a while...
5/29/2013 4:37:39 PM
^^you can definitely still get to traffic, i had to dig around a little bit to figure it out though
5/29/2013 7:43:03 PM
I find myself in the market for a new phone AND tablet. To keep my unlimited data on verizon i have to buy the phone outright, so I don't think that I want to buy a $650 S4.In regards to tablets, the word I can find is that its highly likely for google to update the nexus 7 on June 10th, so I'm thinking that might be my best option. What do you all currently recommend if you were to buy both within a months time?
5/30/2013 8:02:47 AM
http://swappa.com/if you're predominantly going to use it at home, i'd get something bigger than a nexus 7. if you're going to carry it with you a lot, the nexus 7 is good though
5/30/2013 8:17:13 AM
Just found out that my Galaxy Nexus will not connect to an AdHoc connection created by my laptop. apparently iOS devices can connect. I created a wireless hotspot (AdHoc since I have WinXP)using my laptop which is connected to a wired connection since my wireless router broke. I couldn't even find this network on the list of WiFi networks on my phone.
5/30/2013 8:36:24 AM
score, there's going to be a Google Edition of the HTC One
5/30/2013 11:59:34 AM
what is the allure of the google editions ?
5/31/2013 12:46:46 AM
^^ Nice. On Verizon...or just buying it outright/not subsidized?^ Stripped of all the manufacturer junk. I love vanilla Android.
