Today, the shuffle: "it holds 15 hours of music."But ^^^ answers my question. I've never used iTunes, so I didn't know that.Sucks though. What's the bitrate stuck at??[Edited on September 1, 2010 at 2:49 PM. Reason : ]

Pretty sure it's 128kbps AAC
9/1/2010 2:51:12 PM
you can get 256Kbps too i thought

Stein, I've actually been streaming music to my AirPort Express using iTunes since the AirPort's been around, quite a bit longer than it's been available under Windows. What I'm referring to is streaming video/music/pictures from my iPhone to the end device, which used to be just my Zeppelin, but will also include the HDTV soon. The ability to look at pictures/track video, youtube, etc. from nothing more than my phone, wirelessly on the big screen is a huge plus. I'm actually rather excited with the picture and video quality on the iPhone4 as well. Happy camper!

http://gizmodo.com/5627714/that-gorgeous-epic-citadel-iphone-demo-you-can-download-it-nowAnyone tried it yet? On the iphone 4?
9/1/2010 4:53:18 PM
It looks pretty amazing. It's really hard to believe it's on a phone. Feels a heck of a lot like oblivion on the 360.
9/1/2010 5:41:44 PM
yeah I was about to say that.
9/1/2010 5:42:55 PM
I just put it on my iPad and ran video out to my HDTV, and it really wasn't much different looking from a 360 game. Pretty amazing stuff. I hope the game itself is good. Awesome graphics don't mean shit if the game sucks ass.

this air mouse (free) app is fucking awesome, even supports two finger gestures, pretty awesome!!!
9/2/2010 1:12:52 PM
Your mom supports and in fact prefers two-finger gestures.
9/2/2010 2:04:08 PM
Fist recognition.
9/2/2010 3:00:48 PM
so i just got an iphone 4 today...can i just walk into the apple store and they give me a free case?
9/2/2010 8:54:20 PM
No, you have to download the free case app from the app store and order it through that, then wait a month.
9/2/2010 9:02:17 PM
anybody tried Frash on iOS4 for iphone yet? i'm interested but haven't seen many comments about how well it works...
9/7/2010 1:50:58 PM
I tried it on the iPad. I thought it was pretty useless. It uninstalled just fine though. Try it out yourself if you're really interested.
9/7/2010 3:23:19 PM
I started a thread over in the Entertainment section for everybody to put their Game Center IDs. Figured it would be a lot easier to keep all that information in a separate thread.

Is there any way to update to jailbroken 4.1 on my jailbroken phone without losing all of my settings and things I've installed through cydia.
9/7/2010 10:37:22 PM
rockapp will store a list of all of your installed JB apps so you can one click redownload them all. it won't store settings though.is there a 4.1 JB yet?
9/7/2010 10:41:47 PM
Man. 4.1 isn't even out yet and already people are asking for a jailbreak. Y'all some impatient mofos.
9/7/2010 10:44:23 PM
4.1 is pretty much jailbroken already, http://bit.ly/chcJpn
9/7/2010 10:50:30 PM
I'm not sure how you get "pretty much so jailbroken already" from anything in that link. Their only source of actual information was a tweet from musclenerd saying that there would be a jailbreak IF comex could "pull the trifecta" He then goes on to say hole !=exploit which suggests that while they may have found another hole, the actual jailbreak could take weeks or even months to code up (just like it did last time with jbme.com 2.0)That being said, a couple of the big names have been talking about something very cool that Pod2G has came up with today, so I wouldn't be surprised if a JB is released soon after the official firmware hits. But that's just more speculation as well. ]

that's pretty baller
9/8/2010 10:09:39 AM
Did anybody update to 4.1 today? They've started releasing games with Game Center compatibility. Kinda neat.
9/8/2010 10:11:11 PM
Plus it finally has proper avrcp support. Wifes is updated mine is updating after the jb

what does that mean to us nondeveloper lay-peoples?
9/9/2010 11:40:22 AM
The upcoming 4.1 jailbreak supposedly uses an exploit that is only patchable with a processor revision, so hopefully that means jailbreaks from now until infinity on the current iPhone hardware.
9/9/2010 12:25:07 PM
^^ it means developers can use whatever tool they want to develop apps for iOS devices; as it should have always been
9/9/2010 1:08:34 PM
this isn't completely limited to iphone, but that is the device i want to use in this situation, so here we go...i have a factory install ipod dock connector in my glove box. it's 4 years old and doesn't work with my iphone (not that i'd want to ride around w/ it in there anyway) or the ipod touch. i had been using an older ipod with it, but the cable has somehow magically dry rotted or something and doesn't work anymore. i've started using the regular little headphone/aux jack and plugging it into my iphone. the awesome thing about the dock connector was that i could skip songs w/ the buttons on the steering wheel. now the only way i can skip songs is to double click the button, look down for the little next arrow, and tap. looking down isn't very safe. is there a headphone type cable that has song controls (physical buttons) built in? something like the little control on the apple headphones would be perfect. i haven't seen one online yet but i'm not really sure what to call it either.or if i could get 2 sets of those crappy apple headphones w/ controls, can i splice them to have a male end on both ends?[Edited on September 9, 2010 at 3:36 PM. ^^^^ see the conversation starting with message_topic.aspx?topic=455104&page=136#13895113 for more info on why this was a controversial move when it was announced in april. it basically meant people who wanted to write iOS apps with tools like Adobe Flash, were no longer permitted to do so. it led to Adobe cancelling development of the product that allowed developers to do so. i wouldn't be surprised to see them start it up again though[Edited on September 9, 2010 at 4:05 PM. Anyone have 3G issues in Charlotte? I'm not getting any data or really slow data. Couple other people have mentioned it. My Time Warner Cable at my house is also out. Weird. Probably unrelated unless everything's going to shit.
9/15/2010 9:12:28 AM
I have an issue with my iPhone 3Gs. For some reason my phone chugs battery and will die in about 5 hours time, even when it's just sitting. Used to be able to leave it without charging at least a night; so it would run 2 days without charging. Now I can have 100% charged, leave it off the charger; and in the morning it will be about dead. What gives?
9/15/2010 10:14:04 AM
mine does the same thing. I think its because i get shitty signal in both my home and work office so the wireless is running the radio constantly trying to connect to the network.
9/15/2010 10:27:41 AM
Yeah that makes sense. Mine did that last night. Went from 97% to 66% over about 7 hours. Typically you should be able to let the phone sit for a good day and it won't drop but maybe 3% unless it's constantly trying to reconnect. My phone's battery last night might have been due to the modem or router going in and out. I don't know.[Edited on September 15, 2010 at 1:15 PM. Reason : s]

^^^ Check the usage monitor on your phone (Settings -> General -> Usage) at the top where it has the Usage and Standby numbers, if they're the same, something is messed up in the software and its running the radio all the time. Sync/Backup, restore and try reloading your backup. If that doesn't work and the numbers are still the same, Sync/Backup, restore and set up as a new phone (make sure you write down any important notes/sms before hand)[Edited on September 15, 2010 at 1:17 PM. I can add 20 or so device ID's if anyone wants to get in on this iPad os 4.2 beta sans a dev account.
9/17/2010 1:18:14 PM
On the way to Charleston from Charlotte tethering the whole way. Wonder when my 3G is going to cut out. It's been crazy fast and responsive so far. I know the 6mbit down won't last long.
9/17/2010 7:05:07 PM
any good way to save a username/password on a browser page? I am frequently using a wireless network that requires username & pw to log into their network. They don't have a way to register the device for automatic login. It's a pain to type in a long un/pw every time I want to get on the wireless network
9/18/2010 3:53:33 PM
My 3GS's power button, volume buttons, and mute toggle all decided to stop working today.Looking around online, getting them wet seems to be the only cause, but I can't think of when my phone would have gotten wet any time recently. I'm actually pretty paranoid about it since I've had the phone for under a year.Did a restore on it, nothing changed except that restoring from the backup failed to actually restore anything on my phone except the wallpaper.
9/18/2010 7:46:17 PM
mine did that once. the only way i could get anything to work again was to plug it into my comp and do a restore.
9/18/2010 8:01:07 PM
i've had problems with an app disappearing when i plug the phone into the comp to charge. i had the quicktip app for several months, jailbroke the phone, decided to go back to factory settings b/c it was laggy & did a restore. allllll the other apps loaded fine. i finished the restore and started rearranging apps, then noticed quicktip wasn't there. i redownloaded it on the phone and it worked fine...until i plugged it in to charge it. now everytime i use the computer to charge, the app disappears. if i use the wall charger it's fine.wtf
9/18/2010 9:20:33 PM
I've had the same thing happen on several occasions. It's something that iTunes is doing. When you plug in the iPhone, swipe the screen to cancel the automatic sync, then right click on the iPhone in iTunes and click Transfer purchases. Make sure the app you're trying to keep gets transferred over and it shows up in your library and it shouldn't get deleted on future syncs.Reason #8,372 why iTunes is the biggest piece of shit on the planet.
9/18/2010 10:13:34 PM
argh, okay. thank you. i'll try that
9/18/2010 11:32:39 PM
Google voice apps in app store!!!
9/19/2010 9:45:41 AM
so what exactly does it do? I had it a while back and never used it
9/19/2010 2:40:32 PM
That's a good question. I had the original app store version that got pulled, and I had the version that got put up on Cydia, and I think I managed to use it a grand total of one time, and that was just to send a text message to someone when my Phone.app was screwed up. I think the only real reason to get excited about a google voice app would be if google released an official app that included the free VOIP calling that the desktop version of GChat has. But I doubt that will happen anytime soon.
9/19/2010 6:16:11 PM
I agree it's not as useful on the phone but I use google voice a lot when i'm at the computer to text people so I don't have to use my phone. Most people just have my GV number down as a second number.
