Cole Motherfucking Nigro
2/4/2015 11:28:00 AM
Unsurprisingly, it looks like many of these guys will have to redshirt by default. Some of them will have to put on 20, 30, 40+ lbs in the weight room before they can be put on the field. The RBs seem to be the exception, but we are stacked there now, so most will get redshirts anyway.Edit: DTs and Roseboro other exceptions, but the OL all need to to put on a ton of weight or they'll get pushed around like they aren't even there. 6'7" - heck yeah! 260 lb - woah buddy, lets add ~50 lbs to that...[Edited on February 4, 2015 at 11:33 AM. That's one Cole Nigro
2/4/2015 11:30:28 AM
^^Well yeah, that's common, especially the linemen. But I'd be surprised if more than one of our three new RBs is redshirted (Gallaspy, Frasier and Hines)
2/4/2015 11:33:02 AM
new favorite Nigro right there.
2/4/2015 11:33:07 AM
His name is Nigro!!!!I assume he's a walk-on?

I won't be surprised if they move Dayes to WR, since he is so good with routes, hands, and moving in space. RBs will be Thornton, possibly still Dayes and 1 FR maybe 2 if Dayes moves to WR.
2/4/2015 11:36:12 AM
Just looking a the ESPN site and wondering how in the hell UNC recruited so many 4* players. we also dropped from #27 to #32 recruiting class overnight
2/4/2015 11:36:58 AM
Frazier is most likely of the rbs to redshirt. Gallaspy enrolled in January which helps him, and Hines will probably be a slot wr and kick returner.

We are stocking up on amazingly athletic players. Really excited to see what these kids can do in a few years. Hope the Brandon Barnes days are over.

I'm just stoked we are trying to "build a fence" around the state
2/4/2015 1:36:31 PM
I mean...we're definitely trying to, but things aren't looking too good for next year. Strong NC class and the big boys are already starting to poach the best guys. We've got our work cut out for us next year if we're going to get close to what we did in-state this year. Regardless, I like what our coaches are doing.
2/4/2015 1:40:52 PM
regarding redshirting, we were also pretty lucky last year in terms of injuries, so there could be an RB injury or two during the season or even in the offseason that increases the roles of everyone else

One of my good friends coaches Princeton High and RAVES about Johnny Frasier. Nick Saban even visited him last month...

tell us more

I can confirm this. Source: I'm Nick Saban

Please please please let Cole Nigro become a starter some day. I gotta hear how announcers handle his name.
2/4/2015 3:45:48 PM
for the record, Doeren pronounced Nigro with a long i, but don't let that ruin things for you
2/4/2015 3:49:34 PM
Official proof. http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2015/01/alabama_johnny_frasier.html (he ended up canceling the visit three days later)pic. I'm not a SOURCES guy unless it is true. haha

^Hey Nick, how do you feel when people call you Nick Satan?
2/4/2015 4:29:15 PM
Nick, why did you keep this visit secret from everyone except MOODY and this Alabama newspaper that published their article three weeks ago?
2/4/2015 4:31:27 PM
LOL. I didn't say it was secret. Just saying that the big dogs were looking into one of our new RBs. I'm sure it was covered previously, but I haven't been reading.

First time since 2002 and 2003 that we've put together back to back top 40 classes (Rivals rankings). That's kinda surprising to me.
2/4/2015 5:27:33 PM
Not to play devil's advocate because I do understand that TOB was awful at recruiting, but everyone is ooooohhhhhing and aaaaaahhhhhing over our class and it is the seventh best in the conference and maybe not even the best in the state. Hardly anything to write home about IMO
2/4/2015 9:41:37 PM
Your knowledge in this subject must be lacking....also you are taking the ranking of a site known to be the worst of its kind in the realm of recruiting. We havent had a year like this since Amato. Gtfo[Edited on February 4, 2015 at 10:36 PM. Reason : .]

Ratings-wise, I'll agree that it sometimes doesn't look amazing (depending on service), so I can kinda see where he's coming from. I was looking at PP's signing day central page (http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/story/1509961-signing-day-central?s=178) today and was kinda surprised with how low some of our guys are in the positional ratings. That said, though, it sounds like our staff got a lot of the guys they really wanted, and I think a lot of us are banking on them having similar success to what they had in last year's class in terms of identifying guys that are a good fit at State and often under the radar recruits (Bo Hines, Tony Adams, Jaylen Samuels, BJ Hill, Airius Moore, etc.). I think most of those guys were 3 stars (Samuels and Moore were 2s, iirc) but were solid contributors as freshmen, while we're still waiting to see what some of the more highly regarded guys (Street, McClendon, Richardson, etc.) can really do. Also, like dmspack said, this is the best (ratings-wise) we've done in terms of stacking two talented classes back-to-back in over a decade, so there is some reason to believe that we have some momentum. Don't forget that Doeren couldn't really even sell these kids on a winning program until the last month or so of the season, so it's pretty impressive we could get this kind of haul coming off a 3-9 (0-8) record.tl;dr: go pack

too late to edit, but just saw this
2/4/2015 11:20:06 PM
To be fair we HAVE had a year better than this since Amato. The year we landed Glennon, Terrell Manning, RJ Mattes, our class was ranked #28 in the nation and had 5 4* commits.Actually ranking wise, this is the 3rd best class since Amato left.2008 - #282014 - #262015 - #382009 - #39So if you really look at it:TOB's first 2 classes: #28, #39DD's first 2 classes: #26, #38We're about the same level of recruiting that TOB had his first 2 years, it's really all about the 3rd and 4th year. It's easy to sale a new program with plenty of PT and being an "up and comer". But the difference is you have to prove that you can actually continue to recruit when you can't promise PT and your team is consistently winning and improving. That being said, DD has been killing it already for 2016 recruiting, so hopefully he'll be able to keep the momentum going on the field.

7. NC State WolfpackNational rank: 33The Wolfpack are in the top 40 with a class headlined by ESPN 300s Johnny Frasier (No. 80), Nyheim Hines (No. 155) and Darian Roseboro (No. 184). Joining them are four-star tackle Emanuel McGirt and three-star running back Reggie Gallaspy from within the state lines. Georgia three-star defensive tackle Quentez Johnson is a key out-of-state grab. Three-star receivers Vernon Grier, Jarius Morehead and Freddie Phillips all bring different skill sets to the position.

thats a little embellished. theyre basically taking the worst of TOB and comparing it to this seasonchuck pulled in good recruiting classes and even TOB had success his first couple years before he went into semi-retirement. our "true" recruiting level is probably mid 40s so doeren is doing a good job so far but he's not bringing in sick recruits to some dump like corvallis
2/7/2015 11:02:06 AM
but it's not like they looked at State specifically and went "oh, let's use the worst of TOB's years," they used the average of last 4 years for all the schools on that list. have our recruiting classes historically been ranked around 55th? no, but we have had some like that very recently and we're still dealing with the effects of that.
2/7/2015 11:15:33 AM
Exactly. It's a big improvement over recent history for us. Sure, it's a bit skewed because TOB's recruiting was so bad in his last few years. But it's a good class for us regardless
