yeah...he's obviously trying to get another job. that was a bit much, though. but whatever.
3/7/2017 6:35:00 PM
A bit much? He conveniently neglected to mention that he took one of the best recruiting classes ncstate has ever had and produced the most disappointing season I can remember as a state fan and that's some stiff competition. It wasn't even the unmet expectations. It was the complete lack of effort and intensity. It was the downward trajectory and the same bad habits from the past six years manifesting. Anyone who actually watched a state game this season knows it was time for him to go. Hell just watch today's game. It was a perfect example of our putrid season. I felt a little bad for the guy over the last couple of weeks but those comments are
3/7/2017 7:16:23 PM
As everyone has said repeatedly if you reversed seasons 1-6 for Gott, he'd be in good shape. The trajectory of the program is right into the sewer and I've never seen a team quit on a coach like this team. See ya Gott, good luck as an assistant somewhere. Try not to fuck every coed you see.
3/7/2017 7:29:02 PM
The thing that kills me about all the talking heads saying he's done so much here is they are forgetting these past two seasons it's not just missing the NCAA tourney but not even Making the NIT. two years with losing records with the talent we had is just not ok
3/7/2017 9:29:02 PM
On the espn broadcast at the end they were sticking up for him saying that NC State thought he had too much roster turnover but they said this happens to every team now, blah, blah, blah. I don't keep up with every team but I find it hard to believe other ACC teams have had as much turnover as us.
3/7/2017 9:46:54 PM
joe giglio from N&O wrote an article about this yesterday - http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/nc-state/state-now/article136792793.html.
3/7/2017 10:18:13 PM
they just remove all context from any argument because they're friendly with the coaches and want to get their guy's back. we saw it before with herb, we see it now with gott, listen to any other coach who gets fired with mixed success and its the same refrainif Gott had even one good, full season instead of 4 years of instability that led into gearing up for tourney runs that even with massive upsets peaked at Conference Semi's and Sweet 16s he'd maybe have bought another year of good will. He hadn't, and as a result when the bottom fell out the last two years his tenure met its deserved end. All of the talking heads who made fun of us for having to settle for an ESPN anchor are now upset that we want better than an ESPN anchor and took the opportunity to make the upgrade when it presented itself. When you hire a 30 year old you can forgive a bad season because there's the possibility he may learn and improve, and that if you are patient there may be a pay off in the long term. With a guy who has been coaching for 20 years? Nah, he is what he is. That's where we're at and why things are what they are. I don't begrudge the analysts' cynicism, but I can and do reject it.

yeah he elevated the program for a few yearsdo you dispute that he took it back to the basement for the last two seasons and shows no real sign of it recovering anytime soon? because that's why the dude got canned.
3/8/2017 10:17:12 AM
erhmahgerd isn't it shocking no one is lining up to hire this genius coach who went to 4 NCAAs in 6 years what a travesty[Edited on March 22, 2017 at 12:03 AM. Reason : ]
3/22/2017 12:03:15 AM
it's still early...but yeah...same thing when the fans were admonished by the media for not appreciating Herb more. he ultimately failed at ASU and is now coaching at mighty Santa Clara. he doesn't really have the track record of a good coach like we were all told he was when he left here.
3/22/2017 7:51:18 AM
That was only going to happen with him picking up some W's at the end of the season, after he was fired & going some distance in the ACC championship.
3/22/2017 8:56:44 AM
http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/19019077/highest-paid-us-employees-dominated-college-football-college-basketball-coachesgood god. Is this correct? Mark is the highest in the entire state for public paid employees? NO FREAKING WAY!
3/31/2017 2:18:37 AM
Eh, that's a little misleading. The state of NC wasn't paying him $2.5 million a year. His base salary was $760K. The rest was shoe/TV money. But yeah, he was still the highest paid state employee. Not terribly surprising.
3/31/2017 4:29:58 AM
yeah it's only surprising, imo, that it's Gott over Roy. but it's pretty much bound to be either State or UNC's bball or football coach at any given time.
3/31/2017 5:07:58 AM
Roy actually has a very reasonable contract, all things considered. He's definitely giving UNC a hometown discount.

At least it's not the 9mil MI is dropping on Harbaugh

I hope someone guess him, so we have to pay him less.
4/3/2017 7:59:17 PM
I always get UNM mixed up with UNV. Would be hilarious for Gott to take over the year the Martin twins can play again.
4/3/2017 9:14:44 PM
The fuck is UNV?
4/3/2017 9:19:34 PM
Uni of New Vada, duh
4/3/2017 9:21:34 PM
University of Nevada. Didn't feel like typing it out
4/3/2017 9:22:10 PM
haha he goes back to the Martin twins like "you can't quit me, bitch"
4/3/2017 9:29:56 PM
^^Wait but you said you get them mixed up, like UNV is a thing
4/3/2017 9:36:31 PM
but nevada doesn't have an opening
4/3/2017 9:57:15 PM
What if Gott was hired by NC State and got reunited with all the players he recruited!?!? Lol so crazy
4/3/2017 10:14:34 PM
^that would be sooo tight, amirite

I once said that Gott was a ground rule double. He turned out to be a game-ending double play.Three disappointing seasons (2, 5 & 6), two seasons (3 & 4) where we lived up to expectations, and a grossly overachieving first season. It's pathetic that Virginia and football schools have won four out of the last six ACC titles--not to mention the fact that Notre freaking Dame was within an earshot of a second title in three years--when we were supposed to win it four years ago.C.J. Leslie was exposed for being the selfish POS he really was--under two coaches, actually--and is in the D-League. I have the same view of Rodney Purvis that oldtime WWers and alums have of Adam Harrington. He was the hometown player who was supposed to lead State back to the promised land but cut and ran to UConn after his freshman season.Other than those two pricks, everyone else leaving was beyond inexcusable. Debbie Yow did this school a favor because Gottfried was morphing into Sendek 2.0 with half the fanbase wanting him gone and the other half behind him.
4/4/2017 2:04:20 PM
Adam Harrington was from Massachusetts
4/4/2017 2:20:52 PM
4/4/2017 3:22:22 PM
Can we lock this up already
4/4/2017 5:24:27 PM
It's been weeks since Gott was let go and still no transfers. Is it still too early to be sure or does this show how much the players like coach K/how little they liked coach G?
4/4/2017 7:14:18 PM
Not out of the woods til prob mid summer, after semester is over and kids go home to the local chatter
4/4/2017 7:49:54 PM
-1 credibility
4/4/2017 7:54:31 PM
Nah we're not out of the woods on transfers yet. Still plenty of time for that.
4/4/2017 10:03:51 PM
6/23/2017 6:23:07 PM
Well, duh?
6/23/2017 7:45:02 PM
I found Gott. He's an assistant the Mavs D league squad these days
7/6/2017 5:20:48 PM
why is the screencap of that tweet so goddamn big?
