The topo maps on 4 are just blurry. Haven't updated the app for the new iPhone 4 display. It's still usable though. Going to use it this weekend.

ohhhh. okay. well good luck. i hope it works for you.ffr, if anybody ever needs it, there are AT section specific apps that show your location on that section and have a neat elevation map thing.

So twice today while my phone was in an air conditioned house and not even warm to the touch, a black screen came up with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark and the screen said "temperature - your iphone needs to cool down before you can use it"Anyone ever had their phone do this? If it had actually been hot it wouldn't bother me as much but the fact that it wasn't hot at all and I wasn't even using it when this happened makes me think it might be a faulty temp sensor or something, I think I might be making a trip to the Apple store.
7/31/2010 1:30:32 AM
I use the timer function pretty frequently at work. Is there an app or jb app that will display the countdown timer or stopwatch in the statusbar?
7/31/2010 1:47:54 AM
hmm my 3G seems to have disappeared in the Raleigh area.Anyone else have this problem?
7/31/2010 5:16:55 AM
I know I have ranted about i4 already, but as a phone, this thing really is a complete piece of shit. Total crap. I can't have a conversation with my wife without one of us losing signal or more often than not disconnecting or muting the call or hitting the keypad because of the fucked up proximity sensor. I have been the biggest fan of the iPhone but this is the last straw.
7/31/2010 5:57:04 PM
^weird. I haven't had a single issue. No dropped calls or connection issues. Seems to work a lot better than the iPhone 3gs. Calls sounds clearer too. Not as much background noise. I haven't heard any complaints from anyone i know either. Maybe you got a dud.
7/31/2010 6:01:49 PM
I also think the 4 is miles better as a phone than previous versions, antenna issues aside. I've never been able to take or sustain a call at my house without going outside before and now I can as long as I put it on speakerphone and not touch the side. Yeah, the antenna issue completely sucks ass, no doubt about it, but if you can manage to "hold it right", it is a better phone.
7/31/2010 6:06:29 PM
Yea I get a lot of dropped calls with my 4 too. I used to always tell people who complained about the reception of the 3G and 3GS that I didn't know what they were talking about because I really can't ever remember having a dropped call in all the years I had previous gen iPhones but this one drops a noticeable number of my calls. I feel like it may get reception in a few places that my old iPhones didn't but it's just like 1 bar vs no bars on the old ones which means there's about a 75% chance my call is going to get dropped anyway so I don't really care. I've never had and an issue with the proximity sensor though. Also, the whole better battery life thing.....I'm not really seeing that. I unplugged my phone after an overnight charge at 12:30 this afternoon, I'm at 48% now.[Edited on July 31, 2010 at 6:09 PM. Reason : ]

whenever i see someone talking on their iphone 4 the screen is usually lit up even though they are holding it to their ear. iFail
7/31/2010 6:33:11 PM
is that issue just certain phones? No one i know is having that issue. The proximity sensor works fine.

What's the best solution for podcasts on the iPhone? I've never really messed with podcasts before but there are a few I think I might like to listen to.I know you can download them via iTunes and then sync them over to the iPhone but I'd really like to cut the computer out of the process if it's possible. I'd like to be able to always have the latest episode of a podcast on the phone for listening in the car during drives even if I haven't synced in a few days. I don't want to get in the car for a three hour drive and then realize, oh damn I haven't synced in 2 days so I don't have any new podcasts on here to listen to.Is there an app or setting that will download the podcasts over the air, directly to the phone, at a specified time each day assuming it has 3G or Wifi connectivity?
7/31/2010 7:38:30 PM
^You can download podcasts using the Itunes app, but I don't think it will do it automatically you would have to do a search for the podcast and download each episode manually everytime.

http://jailbreakme.com/Haven't actually been able to get the page to load yet. Should be the real deal though.
8/1/2010 5:16:56 PM
i can kinda figure out what the site is about by the namebut what's so special about it? aren't there already pretty established sites for jailbreaking info?[Edited on August 1, 2010 at 5:24 PM. Reason : i can't get it to load yet either, so in the meantime, wanna elaborate?]
8/1/2010 5:23:46 PM
It's the site for the new jailbreak. The one for the 4 and the 3GSs with the newer bootroms. Plus the fact that it works straight from your phone. No computer required. Very cool stuff.[Edited on August 1, 2010 at 5:31 PM. Reason : or so twitter tells me. ][Edited on August 1, 2010 at 5:49 PM. Reason : heh. slide to jailbreak. Nice. ]

i see. which group is running it?still won't load for me
8/1/2010 5:54:16 PM
comex, the guy behind spirit, is the main guy that's been doing the work. With help from all the standard dev team guys (musclenerd, posixninja, planetbeing, etc). They just put up http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com as an alternate link that should have more bandwidth, but as of right now that page just loads but doesn't do anything. Looks like they are still getting things ready.[Edited on August 1, 2010 at 6:03 PM. Reason : finally got the original site to load.][Edited on August 1, 2010 at 6:03 PM. So it looks like this jailbreak makes you lose the ability to facetime and MMS.Spiffy.
8/1/2010 6:58:08 PM
Looks like the Facetime/MMS issue was just a simple permissions error. It's been fixed now.
8/1/2010 11:05:12 PM
So everythings peachy? Was fixed within the jailbreak?
8/2/2010 8:42:45 AM
Hey Punter16 if you haven't downloaded the podcaster app yet let me know. I talked to the developer and he gave me a few promo codes. PM and I'll send you one.
8/2/2010 12:52:17 PM
Ha. That was quick. I only have one left and I'm saving it for Punter16. If he doesn't want it I'll give it out to someone else.

anyone tried jailbreakme today? i haven't gotten it to work yet.
8/2/2010 2:12:09 PM
Yeah got it working on my 4. Was pretty fast. Anyone tried my3g? Facetime over 3g? Not trying to pay for it right now.
8/2/2010 2:13:35 PM
finally got it to work, I don't think it'll ever be easier to jailbreak. Anyone had issues installing sbsettings from bigboss?
8/2/2010 3:53:39 PM
saw a facetime call over 3g on youtube. Looked like shit.[Edited on August 2, 2010 at 3:56 PM. Reason : d]
8/2/2010 3:56:06 PM
^Depends on the quality of 3G signal you get. I ran a facetime to facetime call over 3G last weekend using my 3GS and MiWi as a mobile hotspot and it looked almost exactly the same as it does over WiFi. It glitched a couple of times and the framerate wasn't perfect, but it was definitely usable.^^SBSettings works fine on the 4 iPhone 4s I've installed it on so far. Although the BigBoss repo was down earlier so I was having some trouble installing it. ]
8/2/2010 4:06:23 PM
Used to Jailbreak to get folders, backgrounder, etc. But now with iPhone 4 and ios 4, is there a point? All I can think of are:EmulatorsSB SettingsMobile HotspotWhat am I missing?
8/2/2010 8:28:15 PM
8/2/2010 8:43:27 PM
I just want the 5 icon dock at the bottom.
8/2/2010 8:48:57 PM
^^ point taken, and I definitely think I suffer from that "affliction".I'd be interested to see your list. As I mentioned I haven't jailbroken in quite some time, and am not really sure what is out there!
8/2/2010 8:55:18 PM
I wish I had saved the actual list of programs from cydia I installed to my 3GS the last time I formatted it. It was well over 100 items. Off the top of my head the things I've nerded out over the last 24 hours are SpringFlash, which allows you to activate the LED on the iPhone4 while it's locked, making it super easy to get to a flashlight, My3G, which allows you to run facetime over 3G (I just tried it, and it wasn't too bad), CategoriesSB (because the folders in iOS4 BLOW) Iconoclasm, which allows you to add more icons to your screen than just the standard 4x4 grid, Winterboard, which allows you to theme your icons/sounds/background, etc, MyWi, Which allows you to turn the iPhone into a mobile hotspot, of course SBSettings. And the list of stuff that's not quite ready is a mile long. Most of the devs for the apps didn't get their hands on the jailbreak until yesterday either so it will take a while for most of the stuff to get updated to 4.0, but I'm looking forward to things like Shrink which allows you to shrink the icons so they don't look all bunched together (a 85% shrink and a 5x5 icon layout works out nicely) lockinfo, which allows you to put all sorts of useful information on the otherwise useless lock screen, infinidock, which allows you to add as many icons as you want to the dock and allows for horizontal scrolling of the dock if you're into that sort of thing. And of course, who knows what new programs and tweaks will come out now that the 4 has been jailbroken. I'd love to see them find a way to keep the folder creation aspect of iOS4 but remove the limitations of 12 apps and the stupid generic icon. I dunno, I just enjoy finding and trying out all sorts of new things. Some I don't like and end up deleting, and some end up staying. I just have fun tweaking my phone into something that's unique and easy to use. Even if my list of "must have" apps wasn't that long, I think I'd still enjoy checking Cydia and the message boards every day to see what they came out with today. It really is a bit of an affliction, I think.

5x5 and mobile hotspot is all i want
8/2/2010 9:21:38 PM
Anyone used CloudBrowse? It lets you play flash content on your iphone. You have to sign up for an account to listen on 3G. But you can play flash content anonymously without an account on wifi.

8/3/2010 12:42:50 AM
Sweet. Chpwn just announced the upcoming (later today probably) release of a mod called Infinifolders. It removes the restriction of 12 apps per folder and allows for vertical scrolling of apps from within folders. Now if I can figure out how to change the icon of a folder, I won't have to bother with Categories + CategoriesSB anymore.
8/3/2010 10:35:31 AM
I'd really like the ability for a folder to have a "default". Like right now I have 'Messages' and 'Beejive' in one folder. It'd be nice if double tapping the folder just launched the first app in the folder.Alternatively, if one had an alert and the other didn't, it could just launch the app with an alert.

"I definitely ran into this this past weekend. several times, I either inadvertently muted, enabled the keypad and then hit random numbers while the phone was against my ear. annoying."Honestly, this is the biggest issue out there for this phone. I am surprised more people are experiencing this. I HOPE this can be fixed with a software update (just change the amount of reflection is needed to black out the screen) and we'll be ok. but since Apple doesnt typically tell you the bugs they fix, we'll have to find out with the next update.
8/3/2010 1:26:20 PM
weird. Never noticed that issue. Maybe i put my ear closer to the phone than most people. On a side note:I've got three bars in the middle of a 42 story building in downtown Charlotte at lunch hour. What kinds of speeds are other people getting? This seem a little fast? Thought it was still 3.6 HSDPA in Charlotte. Guess not.[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 1:43 PM. Reason : s]
