I will say the backup program built into ICS? on my GNex was a great starting place. As soon as I signed into my Google account on my new phone the 100+ apps I had installed re-installed themselves...doesn't look like it got much/any of the data though. The system settings it carried over were helpful too.
2/6/2013 9:44:41 AM
^ i was wondering about that...i've never really thought to use the built-in backup and restore as it doesn't seem to capture everything i wantsince my backup DOES capture everything (including most system settings if you check the box), i've just stuck with itthe only thing that the non-pro version doesn't do that would make me consider purchasing pro is restoring from one OS to another (ie. you can do ICS/ICS, but not ICS/GB)...i THINK you can do ICS/JB, though, since they same version base (4)i could be wrong in that, though...i'm waiting for JB for my bionic and then we'll find out
2/6/2013 12:19:22 PM
yaye finally got ICS on my thunderbolt ... sadface it completely drained my battery upgrading everything lol. like 75%-0%

The Logitech ReVue has the best couch keyboard ever...too bad the specs and support suck!
2/9/2013 11:15:33 AM
^except for the god awful back button placement. I don't know if this is new or just new to me, but i can now use my phone as a remote for youtube on googletv
2/9/2013 11:47:03 AM
My xyboard can run it, there is an infrared port on it and an app.
2/9/2013 2:16:45 PM
lol a xyboard

Lol... Not sure if serious

In case you just want to customize the call button on your BT headsetRe: Getting Voice Commands to work on Android?02-08-2012 03:03 AMOptionshere is one way i found on android forums it wont get it to listen through bt but will let the button launch the voice actions app .. {{I found an app that can be set up to do this task. It is called "Bluetooth Launch", and once you've installed and opened it, you will see a big list of possible things to launch with the bluetooth button. To get it to open Voice Search, I clicked the Voice Search drop-down, then checked the different options to see which one does the right thing. I'm not sure if it is the same between phones, but on the Nexus S, it was the option that says: com.google.android.voicesearch.RecognitionActivity}} credit to beriukay over on android forums ..

anybody ever used this? http://www.bluestacks.com/supposed to let you use any mobile app on a PC or Macnot something i'd use often, but I wonder how the performance compares if you have a sweet ass CPU compared to your phone's hardware
2/23/2013 1:19:21 AM
^I use it a lot, but unless you have a monster computer, it runs like shit. My quad core AMD machine with a radon 5830 still can't pull more than 15-20fps with BlueStacks.WindowsAndroid runs 100x faster, but its very temperamental. It only runs on one of my three PC's.
2/23/2013 1:41:08 AM
yeah I got a graphics card error (on my laptop) during the install...might try on my desktop tomorrowmaybe i'll see if WindowsAndroid will install on this laptoponce installed, do you basically just synch by logging into your GMail account?

does anyone know offhand how to get a transparent background wrapped around an app icon and it's label, sort of like blackberry is doing with blackberry 10?

Anyone have a good alternative to the stock mail app? I'm using the Tesla unread count badge that goes with Nova Launcher and the stock mail app doesn't update exchange read/unread status until you actually open the app and it refreshes. The only thing that gets pushed are incoming messages. Gmail on the other hand updates read status and the badge goes away. Kind of pointless to have a badge if it doesn't go away when I read the email on my laptop....

Sidebar is really neato. Great for multitasking.

i've decided i'm stoked for the motorola ghost (x phone)
3/8/2013 12:07:30 PM
where did the name ghost come from?
3/8/2013 11:43:23 PM
the guy who runs house of bionic works for motorola and mentioned that it's codenamed "ghost"...he drops tidbits on specs now and then, though he admits that those might change
3/9/2013 7:51:55 AM
i only ever had heard x phone before... hm.but id be interested in it if it's an unlocked phone from google. compatible with verizon. regardless of specs.do you have a link or anything to what he claims?[Edited on March 9, 2013 at 1:33 PM. Reason : ]

^^ for reviews: http://www.amazon.com/MID_M729-Android-Cortex-1-2Ghz-Camera/product-reviews/B009PIQFHA/VIA WM8850 processor (very meh, even at 1.2ghz)no bluetoothno GPSresistative screen (so no multi-touch, which means no pinch-zoom)reviews indicate 3-4 hours battery with "regular" use and it takes forever to chargenot crapping on the post...i mean, it's only $70...just be aware of what you're getting
3/11/2013 8:55:16 AM
i'm not getting one even though the price is tempting, just sharingseems like it would at minimum be a nifty youtube/netflix player, if you can deal with a 7" screen[Edited on March 11, 2013 at 9:06 AM. Reason : .]

Heck yeah. Thanks!
3/11/2013 7:46:58 PM
So again - what does everyone use for exchange / activesync email? The built in mail client for my Note 2 does not push read status like Gmail. It's really annoying. Is that just a problem with Android / Activesync in general? Or do other clients push read status? Gmail will mark an email read in the background (and turn off my LED notifier) if I read the email on my laptop. The Exchange mail program does not.
3/12/2013 10:24:31 AM
I use touchdown by nitrodesk on my note 2. When I read an email in outlook on my laptop it marks the email as read on the phone app and turns off the notification. You can try it for free first before buying the $25 license.[Edited on March 12, 2013 at 10:31 AM. Reason : it works]
3/12/2013 10:29:35 AM
Eh it's really ugly and I didn't like how it always displayed the split screen. I'll give it another try though.
3/12/2013 11:17:03 AM
I have a Razr Maxx and I am downloading the new Jelly Bean update. However, I just read that FoxFi will not work on Razrs with JB. Any way to cancel the download/update? I am at 70%
3/12/2013 11:56:16 AM
probably just pull the battery...its not gonna start updating until the download is complete
3/12/2013 11:58:54 AM
^ battery pull, reboot into recovery, wipe cache?
3/12/2013 11:59:44 AM
Maxx has that nice built in battery Not a big deal, just sucks to lose stock FoxFi access. I will probably just root[Edited on March 12, 2013 at 12:01 PM. Reason : y]
3/12/2013 12:01:16 PM
oh, yeah, that's right another reason i will (try to) avoid any phones without a user-removable battery
3/12/2013 12:02:29 PM
It completed the download and now I have a prompt to install. I can decline and install later. It will prompt me every 12 hours. Ehhhhh.... I am going to sit on the fence for a bit
3/12/2013 12:04:54 PM
With touchdown you can select classic view to get rid if the split screen.
3/12/2013 12:11:21 PM
Yeah but every time I go back into it after exiting it brings the split screen back up.
3/12/2013 12:15:50 PM
In the advanced settings, disable tablet mode. That should keep it in classic mode. Don't forget to hit save at the bottom. [Edited on March 12, 2013 at 2:49 PM. Reason : save your settings]

my fucking HTC thunderbolt keeps fucking losing ATT iphone text parts. if a msg is over 160 char it will randomly just lose the second half of the messageverizon says it's the conversion to cmda that's causing the foul up... Anyone know why this may be happening ? anyone know a way to stop it other than get an att iphone ?
3/12/2013 10:40:56 PM
i think that happened to me now and then when i had my bolt...and, come to think of it, it seemed to only happen when a friend using an iphone on AT&T when text me...
3/13/2013 10:08:50 AM
I've noticed my Razr doesn't always receive my sister's AT&T iPhone's texts. I also got a random half-text from someone who has a Verizon iPhone & it was over the 160 character limit.

The Samsung Galaxy IV looks awesome technically, but I'm really really mad they are using the same tired, dated, giant plastic squircle design language. I didn't buy the last one because it was ugly, and I don't think I can buy this one either. I think the HTC One may be my next phone.
3/14/2013 10:21:09 AM
i hate how samsung takes stock android features and changes the skin and calls it "S-blank." but it does seem like with the S4 they are adding a lot of other features to the camera, touchscreen, etc. i hope google is taking note of how much they are forking android with their extra features...
3/14/2013 8:45:20 PM
