well done...just like Sid's steaks

Fells is solid in the half court passing and all, but was TERRIBLE about handling the ball in transition
2/22/2010 10:15:07 PM
2/22/2010 10:16:46 PM
as evidenced by the fact that in 21 of his 27 games, he had between 0 and 2 turnovers
2/22/2010 10:19:09 PM
how often was he the primary ball handler anyways???maybe we watched a different Fells last year
2/22/2010 10:22:28 PM
didn't he run the point a few times in 07-08?
2/22/2010 10:41:38 PM
Courtney Fells credibility watch.old news.
2/22/2010 10:46:11 PM
2/22/2010 10:57:02 PM
did you legitimately hate Fells?
2/22/2010 11:01:14 PM
What the Fuck is going on here?
2/22/2010 11:06:27 PM
no, fells was my favorite player the last few years. probably 1/4 of the time he went on the break he turned the ball over
2/22/2010 11:07:20 PM
so he went on the break, on average, 7 times per game?that would be a record for a forward in Sid's system
2/22/2010 11:10:09 PM
...and that would be assuming he had zero turnovers in the half court set
2/22/2010 11:11:07 PM
what is going on here?
2/22/2010 11:15:00 PM
I love Fells but I'm not going to lie and say he was a great handler on the break. He wasn't good at breaking presses and he was pretty bad about handling on the break. I'd say 70% of his turnovers probably came from those two things.
2/22/2010 11:16:23 PM
i remember it differently, but i'll take your word for it
2/22/2010 11:28:53 PM

2/22/2010 11:36:02 PM
waste of talent or wasted talent?
2/22/2010 11:41:02 PM
lol tke give it up man, everyone on this board watched fells the past few years. he wasnt a turnover machine but thats mainly because he didnt do much that would put the ball in danger. he didnt drive much or make dangerous passes trying to set people up, etcevery fast break that he went all out on there was a good chance he would dribble the ball off his knee or he'd sail it out of bounds trying to make an easy pass. and he was good for one of those awful passes where he throws it right to the other team on the perimeter giving them a free lay up AT LEAST once every other gamefwiw his TOrate last year was 18.7%. His replacement, Scott Wood, is at 16.5 as a freshman. And Wood handles the inbounding duties most of the time (part of the reason Costner avg'd a ton of TOs is because he sucked ass at inbounding)[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 12:12 AM. Reason : ]

You remember it differently, but that's how it was. When he managed to finish it was so pretty, people didn't remember the bad parts]
2/23/2010 12:37:25 AM
^^ and yet you hate julius mays
2/23/2010 4:13:45 AM
Problem is that Fells was pretty much in the game as a pure wing and sometimes a 2. Mays is asked to run the point more often than not. Two totally different jobs.
2/23/2010 7:49:52 AM
hah. i used to work at .when my $5.14 paycheck bounced i knew its time was up...
2/23/2010 8:48:35 AM
Ouch!
2/23/2010 10:13:15 AM
Fells was the 2nd best player in Mississippi behind Monta Ellis in high school. Had a lot of potential, but I think his lack of improvement in his ball-handling led to his demise. I don't see how you can't significantly improve your ball-handling in 4 years of college basketball. Get a fucking ball-handling coach or something.

and he loved to throw the x up for Jamaica

I still don't understand why GG isn't playing the point in the NBA.
2/23/2010 5:09:43 PM
State has not had any great ball handlers in a while. Honestly Atsur was about as good as we've had recently. Just off the top of my head:1. Javi - okay 2. Mays - garbage3. Degand - okay to garbage4. Grant - garbage5. Atsur - good6. Bethel - okay to good7. Grundy - okay8. Gainey - okay9. Archie - garbage10. Ishua Benjamin - okayI know I am forgetting some other guys who've routinely handled the ball for us in the recent years, but regardless Harrow will be a breathe of fresh air.[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 5:15 PM. Reason : Forgot to include GG.]

2/23/2010 5:21:06 PM
Fells was definitely not a good ballhandler or passer.Atsur is being way overrated as a ball handler, he wasn't even a true PG. He had to dribble with his back to the basket to even get the ball into the frontcourt every possession. It usually took us 10-15 seconds to even set up the offense because his ballhandling was so weak.Javi is a much better dribbler skillwise he just doesn't play very under control which makes him turnover prone.
2/23/2010 5:35:38 PM
this guy could get the ball up court
2/23/2010 5:37:09 PM
2/23/2010 5:43:54 PM
you've obviously never seen the jamaican flag
2/23/2010 5:45:43 PM
Why does rflong hate Archie Miller? You really think Javi is better than Arch was?He would be great compared to what we have....so would Gainey, Crawford, Grundy, etc though
2/23/2010 5:59:06 PM
2/23/2010 6:40:57 PM
Hodge was a good ball handler. He took a lot of pressure off of Atsur.

Physical limitations? He was slightly more athletic and a slightly better shooter than most of the 5'10" gym rats who fill up Carmichael on a nightly basis. He was essentially worthless on anything besides open 3's, foul shots and high fives. He was a point guard who averaged a whopping two assists a game. To make a case for him as anything more than a Will Roach-esque fan favorite is a complete failure to view his actual basketball contributions objectively.

^^ bingo. I am surprised that there are people who actually have good memories of Archie. Outside of a good 3 pt stroke, he brought little to the team in terms of production on the floor.I watched all four years of that little fucker's career here and I was glad to see him gone. Plus he was a wigger.[Edited on February 24, 2010 at 11:52 AM. Reason : 46]
