We shouldn't have scheduled ECUWe should not have done that
11/24/2018 3:09:48 PM
We were never a true top 25 team this year. Just fools gold
11/24/2018 3:12:02 PM
You're not allowed to say that here, its trolling
11/24/2018 3:35:36 PM
what's the definition of a true top 25 team
11/24/2018 3:36:34 PM
In other words, we were never really all that good.
11/24/2018 3:42:40 PM
I mean it’s not the fans fault that the voters and CFP committee ranked them
11/24/2018 3:45:29 PM
It’s ok to be overrated or to have an inflated record...I mean yeah I get that it’s misleading if you have a weak schedule or whatever. But plenty of meh teams go 9-3 or whatever and aren’t as good as the record indicates. Our problem is not taking care of business bs Wake and UNC. No shame in being an overrated 10-2 team
11/24/2018 3:47:38 PM
I mean it wasn't voters or the CFP committee on here talking about playoffs though
11/24/2018 3:50:35 PM
You’re still fucking that chicken? It’s what fans do
11/24/2018 3:51:33 PM
Fans who like being disappointed apparently
11/24/2018 3:53:30 PM
why are you afraid of ECU?
11/24/2018 3:57:22 PM
Lol, okay
11/24/2018 4:02:33 PM
why shouldn't we have scheduled them then?you bumped the thread to specifically say that, just wondering what you mean[Edited on November 24, 2018 at 4:04 PM. Reason : .]

I would like to have a conversation with the people sure that our defense would be better this yearBut we won! And dtr is butthurt! Double win!
11/24/2018 4:06:48 PM
I’m not gonna go back and find it. But I was confident our D wouldn’t be significantly worse and had potential to be about the same. DL and QB pressure was a definite step back. We have talent along the DL but couldn’t consistently get pressure this year. I also expected the secondary to improve. It didn’t. So yeah I’ll own being wrong there, although I’m not sure I ever said it’d be better.
11/24/2018 4:12:34 PM
Yea could be a classic sports talk straw man. Looks like earl was predicting improvement but that's Earl. Most others were more like you
11/24/2018 4:16:04 PM
our defense was low key kind of mediocre last year, I was expecting us to be about the samei thought our offense would have issues from losing our line and rbs. this did prove to be the case against the good teams, but we didnt play many good teams
11/24/2018 4:17:17 PM
We might be ranked top 25 this week. Pitt, Utah State/Boise, possibly Utah losing. We've been getting votes. Who knows with CFP.
11/25/2018 12:58:38 AM
Yeah the defense last year wasn’t great. Pass rush was really good and that helped cover up some other issues. But statistically it was not a great defense. This isn’t a hot take or anything, but Hines was our biggest loss from last years team.
11/25/2018 2:47:01 AM
Yeah would have loved to see what this team was like had Nyheim stayed[Edited on November 25, 2018 at 7:19 AM. Reason : He made a good call though, not saying he should have stuck around]
11/25/2018 7:19:14 AM
11/25/2018 10:20:23 AM
This isn't a hot take, but our biggest loss next year will be Harmon/Meyers.
11/25/2018 10:25:51 AM
^ Obviously it's finely
11/25/2018 11:14:44 AM
Losing Will richardson hurt. But our OL mostly kept Finley protected this year. Run blocking was a different story at times.
11/25/2018 11:28:02 AM
Alot of people said Richardson was our best run blocker last yearEdit: me for example!
11/25/2018 11:39:09 AM
Yeah Richardson was really good, no argument from me. That probably did play a big role in the run game
11/25/2018 11:47:33 AM
I think maybe it made it a tad more predictable too bc the left side of our line was supposed to be really good so maybe we went that way more. I have zero supporting evidence for that, however
11/25/2018 12:45:35 PM
Richardson was really good last year, don't get me wrong, but Witt hasn't been bad this year. Hines is the biggest loss, and I'd argue the 2nd biggest loss that hurt our running game was Cole Cook. That dude was like a 6th OL and he was a GREAT run blocker. Feels like the biggest problem on offense this year is the "fit" at RB. Gallaspy doesn't fit our offense that we want to run. He's a high-volume bruiser that needs to wear down a D and then ice away games as he finds bigger and bigger runs in the 2nd half as the D tires out. That's essentially what you saw against UNC. Dayes and Hines fit our offense much, much better. Hines just needed to make 1 guy miss or get just a sliver of room and he could turn a 2-3 yard run into a 12-15 yard run and he was a HR hitter that kept defenses honest. No one is worried about Gallaspy breaking off 80 yard TD runs. It's why when Person comes in the game he looks so explosive and he has nice runs, it's because he fits our system better and doesn't need as much time to get up to full speed and does a better job making the first defender miss. That being said, Person also shows signs of youth and makes bad reads and misses holes, but that'll come with time and reps. Hell it's why Bodine looks good in our offense, it's not just because he's in mop-up duty, he's just the better fit running out of the pistol. The good thing is that both of the RBs in the 2019 class fit our system better, Griffin(4*) and Knight(3*) should be able to pair with Person next year to give us 3 good options, just have to hope Person can stay healthy.

Jones Witt and Phillips suspended for one half, our choice which half. Hopefully they split halves for Jones and Witt.ECU might feast on Riley (?)

Im not worried about ecu but Riley was baaadddd in that Syracuse game.

I mean, look at the QB situation in the ACC right now. Clemson - QB switch early in the season. Miami - revolving door at QB UNC - revolving door at QBUL - revolving door at QBSyracuse - QB hurt, missed a game or twoBC - QB hurt, missed a game or twoFSU - QB hurt, missed game or twoDuke - QB hurt, missed a few gamesWake - QB lost for season with 2-3 games leftVT - QB lost for season early. Pitt - Played full season. GT - Played full season. UVA - Played full season. So technically Finley had to beat out the QBs from Pitt, GT, and UVA who had a full year's stats. Lawrence got 2nd team and only started 8 games and only played 1 quarter in one of those games. Finley was certainly the best QB in the ACC this year and deserved 1st team All-ACC, but don't act like it's not fair to criticize some of his performances. Problem is next year our fans are going to see just how valuable he was to our offense.

Outside of Trevor Lawrence no other QB played at the same level as Finley and Lawrence didn't start until 3 or 4 games into season. Also GT the QB is not a QB but a glorified Running Back who sometimes throws (maybe 5 times a game)I honestly don't get the Finley hate. He is going to be in top 2 in almost every QB School Record category including 3-0 against UNC. I mean I loved the Rivers years but outside of his Senior season its not like we were competing for ACC Titles with him.[Edited on November 27, 2018 at 7:49 AM. Reason : ^^]

You know, that statement actually made me curious about PR's game winning drives. I can't see the 2000 season recaps box scores, but in his last 3 seasons he had as many game winning drives as Finley: 12002 TTI suppose you could give him credit for 01 WF, but it feels weak. We went up 17-14 in the 3rd quarter and that was the final score. We won the ark st and GT games in OT his frosh year, so that's 2 more and we had a few other close games that I don't remember well enough.Key point being soemtimes game winning drives are as much about opportunity and the other team as they are a qb
11/27/2018 8:51:53 AM
I know in year 1 we came back to beat Minnesota in the bowl game. Not sure if it was a game winning drive, but we were doing big at half. We won our first game of his career in OT I think, so that would count as well. One year we beat UVa in a wild game, not sure if it was a true game winning drive or what though[Edited on November 27, 2018 at 9:08 AM. Reason : A][Edited on November 27, 2018 at 9:09 AM. Reason : You already mentioned the ark state game]
11/27/2018 9:08:06 AM
Yea i mentioned the 2 ot games. He maybe had a bunch his frosh year, but his soph, Jr and Sr years were just like Finley'sConclusion: we needed a healthy Finley as a freshman!^2003. We won by 14. I didn't look at any game we won by more than a td. I'm confident in my numbers for 01,02 and 03.[Edited on November 27, 2018 at 9:13 AM. Reason : E]It's funny too. Finley's gw: ot win where RB scored 5 tds, no passing tdsRiver's gw: ot win where RB scored 5 tds, no passing tds[Edited on November 27, 2018 at 9:18 AM. Reason : E]
11/27/2018 9:10:07 AM
I looked up the UVa game. In 2003 vs UVa we took the lead with :30 left (it was tied before that). Won by 2 TDs because we had a pick six on UVa’s ensuing drive. So technically that should count imo. But I’m obviously nit picking and just strolling down memory lane, your point is not incorrect and it is interesting to compare.
11/27/2018 9:24:00 AM
You're right, I totally misread that box score.Of course at the time Justin would have said it barely counts bc TA scored on a 38 yard run
