Got any examples other than casting aspersions? I would consider someone an idiot if he didn't understand the risk. If someone understands the risk involved, has skin in the game for the risk that's just a disagreement of comfort level.

The arguments for getting the vaccine boil down to: just do it so we can go outside or you are killing grandma you sick fuck. Both are problematic.

If you're going to compare random mass shootings (not gangs or suicides) from incels it's basically an order of magnitude or maybe even the same as the current known risk of the vaccine. If you can show me different would love to see it. My understanding is 200 - 1000 mass shootings causalities or shot. Would be a rate of 1:500000 to 1:1000000 conservatively. Shootings follow a normal distribution. Provided we don't start selling nukes you wouldn't expect random acts of violence to change much.

The risk of getting the vaccine is roughly the risk of dying in a mass shooting. The trade off is worth it for the vaccine for many people. Was just stating the complication risk of the known portion is roughly the same. If you compare known risk to risk of covid and ignore other unknowns, get the vaccine.

There are no unknowns with shootings.

This San Jose case is ridiculous... guy had a restraining order for domestic violence, his exwife/gf had reported him for rape... seems like he should have been in jail a long time ago, or at least had any weapons seized.

He had a history of bipolar disorder on top of this and supposedly talked about murdering his coworkers in the past to his gf.

I think the suggestion is that this MIGHT convince non-would-be-mass-shooters to support some common sense gun control legislation. The people that DO this are a lost cause. SOME of the people that stand behind the Second Amendment to resist any and all restrictions on firearms might be reachable.

I'm undecided about whether this should be done.

I think it's also worth considering the backlash against publishing the images: You know that right wing media will howl and scream about publication as attempts to "politicize" the issue or that it's a disgrace to the surviving families to have those pictures published.

My best friends dad recently lost his mind (within the last 5 years). I nor his son never knew him to be a gun owner growing up, but they searched the house the last time he got off of his meds and found 5-6 handguns they had no idea he purchased. Gotta find a way to legally label these people somehow

It's not about being scared straight. Mass shooters won't be dissuaded by a picture.

Not showing the full reality of school shootings allows people to stay in denial about what's actually happening. I don't fault people their denial--it's a horrible situation and we're all guilty. But nothing is going to change if we can't see and acknowledge what's happening. Whitewashing the aftermath also sets up one-sided debates where second amendment extremists get to make abstract (and selfish) arguments about their own rights and freedoms while simultaneously eliding the very real and concrete consequences of having nearly no gun control.

I think schools and police would be a bigger obstacle to publishing graphic pictures than the parents, though obviously not all (or probably even most) parents would consent.

As for the right wing concern trolling backlash. You know it's coming and some sort of response is clearly needed, but really...just fuck those people. They see mass shootings not as actual events with real people but as government conspiracies and crisis actors all bent towards suppressing them (hey, there's that selfishness again!). They harass Sandy Hook parents and follow around Stoneman Douglas survivors. I'm tired of having to be responsible for the reactions of conspiracy mongers and bad-faith actors.

Basically: freedom isn't free and neither is the second amendment. People need to see the cost and those favoring lax gun control need to justify it.
