i sure hope so. don't know how banking on jacoby is going to work out with the vast majority of the team being freshman-sophomore. jacoby better fucking bring it.

Quote :
"ug. 20, 2014

RALEIGH, N.C. - With just 10 days until the Pack opens its 2014 season against Georgia Southern at Cater-Finley Stadium, GoPack.com will be releasing the Pack's depth chart over the next few days - two position groups at a time.

QUARTERBACK
Production from the quarterback position was a problem for NC State in 2013, with more interceptions (15) than touchdowns (14), but anticipation is high for the Wolfpack debut of highly-touted transfer Jacoby Brissett. Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Matt Canada is pleased with Brissett's leadership as the starter, as well as the progress of his backups.

Starter: Jacoby Brissett (6-4, 221, *Jr.)
- When Brissett takes the field against Georgia Southern, 651 days will have passed since the last time he played in a game.
- Transfer from Florida who has been with the Pack since January of 2013.
- Known for his pocket presence and strong arm, Brissett has established himself as a team leader with strong work ethic.

Canada on Brissett: "Jacoby has done a great job in camp. He's a great leader and is very much a student of the game. He has the ability to make all the throws, but his greatest strength is probably his leadership and his desire to win. He's a great competitor. He's certainly established himself as the No. 1 quarterback, but he will have to have 10 guys around him doing their job to be successful. He's done a great job putting himself in a position to have a great year."

Backup: Garrett Leatham (6-4, 220, *Jr.)
- Former walkon who recently earned a scholarship
- Saw action in three contests in 2013, completing 53% of his 17 throws.

Canada on Leatham: "Garrett has had a very good camp. He's a smart player who understands the offense and has competed very well. He's thrown for a high percentage throughout camp. He's competing for the job, but knows that there has to be a starter and there has to be a backup. I'm very pleased with his knowledge of the game and his knowledge of the offense. "

Reserve: Jalan McClendon (6'5, 200, Fr.)
- The tallest in the Pack's quarterback group, McClendon probably has the strongest arm as well.
- Was the starting quarterback for North Carolina in the 2013 Shrine Bowl.

Canada on McClendon: "Jalan is a very highly skilled player who has as big an arm as any quarterback I've ever been around. He's done a great job learning the offense and has gotten better and better every day. He has a tremendous upside and the future is very bright with him."

CORNERBACK
Corner is one of the youngest positions on the field with two freshmen, three sophomores and a junior making up the three-deep. Only three of the six have ever seen game action, but several young players have made great progress under first-year CB coach George Barlow

Left Corner
Starter: Jack Tocho (6-0, 201, So.)
- Started seven games last season as a true freshman.
- Picked off two passes in his first career start (Syracuse).

Barlow on Tocho: "Jack is very talented and has nice size and nice ability. But the thing that makes him special is that he's a student of the game. He continues to try to do everything exactly how I ask him to do it. He's improved on his technique and his confidence. He has the ability to be one of the better corners in the ACC."

Backup: Niles Clark (5-11, 199, *So.)
- Played in nine games last season, seeing action mainly at nickel.

Barlow on Clark: "Niles is probably one of the more intelligent guys we have back there. He's done well enough to really warrant as many reps as the two starting guys, but hasn't quite passed them. He'll be the first guy to come in behind Jack or Justin. Like Jack, he's a student of the game and is almost like having a coach on the field."

Reserve: Mike Stevens (5-10, 196, Fr.)
- True freshman who played mainly on offense in high school.

Barlow on Stevens: "Mike has really showed a lot of promise. He's picked up the schemes really well and has been a surprise to me because he didn't play a whole lot of defense in high school. He's really talented and plays with a lot of confidence and effort. I can definitely see him having a bright future."

Right Corner
Starter: Juston Burris (6-1, 211, *Jr.)
- Started every game of 2013 and five games in 2012. He has solid experience, having played in 25 career games.
- Led the team in PBUs last season and has been a disruptive force in the secondary during fall camp.

Barlow on Burris: "Justin is a physically gifted kid who is really tall for the position. He has the hips and the feet to play corner and I'm looking for big things from him. He played a lot last year and has really worked on his confidence. He's playing with great confidence, great effort and great technique. He also has a chance to be a really good player in this conference.

Backup: Charlie Twitty (5-9, 189, *So.)
- Athletic former walkon who has earned a scholarship and worked his way up the depth chart.
- Worked with the scout team as a wide receiver last season.

Barlow on Twitty: "Twitty has been a pleasant surprise for us. Because of our depth issues we moved him from receiver to defensive back in the spring and he's done really well. This summer he's come back and been exceptional. He's a solid backup and will probably be our fourth guy in."

Reserve: Malcolm Means (6-1, 189, *Fr.)
- Redshirted the 2013 season at safety, he moved to corner in spring drills.

Barlow on Means: "Malcolm is another guy who moved from safety to corner in the spring. He can definitely be in the same mold eventually as Jack or Justin just because of his size and athletic ability. He just needs to continue to learn the positions because he was a skilled, offensive guy in high school and played more safety last year. He's still learning the position.""

Originally committed to Penn State. His dad (Troy Vincent Sr.) was a 5-time Pro Bowl DB, mostly for the Eagles.

Doesn't necessarily mean that Troy Vincent Jr. will be good, but like jbrick said, he was one of our most highly touted signees... Stevens not so much.

It is the beginning of the season, and he is a true freshman, so things could change as the season progresses or after he gets a year or two in the system. Or maybe he's practicing at a different position?

True, but Stevens is also a true freshman (who played WR more than CB in high school) and Twitty is a former walk-on that was on offense until recently. I'm not saying they shouldn't be where they are, because the coaches seem willing to play the best man for the job no matter who it is, it's just surprising

Hate being a Debbie Downer, but between our very weak LB core and what looks like a weak secondary, we may have a long season watching our D get torched again. D-line is going to have to consistently pressure the Qb for us to be successful. Especially early in the year as some of these guys gain some experience.

McLendon better get snaps in blowouts. I mean...I don't know about whether he's ready to start if JB goes down, but he's the future and they may as well bump him to #2. We have nothing to lose this year.

^do that and we lose a year of eligibility on him...if he redshirts we have 3 years of eligibility after Jacoby leaves...if we don't, we only have 2.

^^McClendon is #3 on the depth chart going into the season. Leatham will likely get any "mop-up duty" we're lucky enough to have this season.

I doubt you see McClendon this season unless Brissett goes down in first 2-3 games or he goes down later in the year and we actually have a shot at a bowl.

Coaches seem to suggest that McClendon is physically there, but doesn't seem mentally ready.

More true freshmen
Quote :
"Aug. 21, 2014

RALEIGH, N.C. - Yesterday GoPack.com started to release the Pack’s opening-game depth chart, breaking down the quarterbacks and cornerbacks. Today, we look at the running backs and defensive line as we are nine days away from the opening kickoff.

RUNNING BACK
The depth chart at running back has the same names as a season ago, but all three are smarter, stronger and faster for 2014. Running backs coach Des Kitchings is pleased with the depth and talent of his group.

Starter: Tony Creecy (5-11, 213, *Gr.)
- One of the strongest leaders on the 2014 squad, he graduated in May.
- Most experienced player in the group, he has played in 34 career contests.

Backup: Matt Dayes (5-9, 205, So.) OR Shadrach Thornton (6-1, 206, Jr.)
Dayes
- Averaged 4.0 yards per carry last season.

Thornton
- Ranked third in the ACC in rushing vs. league opponents last season.
- Led team in rushing in 2012.

Kitchings on the running backs: “Camp competition was great. Those three guys were tremendous and want to be the strength of our team. They’ve worked hard and it showed in camp. Those three feed off each other.

“Shad is a more powerful, stronger running back. Matt Dayes is very elusive, very good at catching the football and good in the open field. Tony is a collection of it all. He’s very reliable and dependent and is a great leader.

“Matt Dayes had a tremendous camp. He can catch the ball well, he can run, he’s going to be a kick returner. He’s playing with a lot of confidence.”

DEFENSIVE LINE
Defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen has the most depth of any position on the Wolfpack squad. His players have collectively started 71 career games and two of the four spots will be manned by seniors. However, like the rest of the team, youth is prevalent on the d-line, with seven freshmen or sophomores among the rotation of 11.

Defensive End
Starter: Art Norman (6-0, 254, *Gr.)
- Just 8.5 sacks from tying Mario Williams career record.
- Had more snaps (508) than any d-lineman last season.

Nielsen on Norman: “Art’s one of the leaders. He’s probably the most experienced members of our group – he’s played a lot of football. He’s very fundamentally sound, very tough and very steady. He has a great work ethic every single day. He’s so sound that he’s hard to block. He’s a real technician.”

Backup: Drew Davis (6-3, 252, *So.)
- Former linebacker who has added bulk.

Nielsen on Davis: “The best thing about Drew is his effort. He’s got the highest motor on the defensive line. He never takes a snap off. He’s very explosive and distruptive.”

Defensive Tackle
Starter: T.Y. McGill (6-1, 289, Sr.)
- Veteran of 38 games and 13 career starts.
- Has worked hard in the offseason to come back with great conditioning and attitude for senior campaign.

Nielsen on McGill: “T.Y. had a great offseason – a phenomenal offseason. He added upper and lower body strength. He’s put in extra work and was always asking ‘what else can I do.’ He’s really focused on his technique and becoming a fundamentally great player.”

Backup: Thomas Teal (6-1, 296, *Sr.)
- Another vet with 31 career games played and 24 games started.
- Saw action at tackle and end last season.

Nielsen on Teal: “Thomas added a lot of strength too and brings a ton of experience to our group. He’s played both positions for us and is quick-twitch and very athletic. He will explode off the ball and runs hard.”

Reserve: Kenton Gibbs (6-2, 287, *Fr.)
- Redshirted last season with an Achilles injury.

Nielsen on Gibbs: “Kenton redshirted with a pretty major injury but put in a lot of work to get back. He’s an intelligent player – his football I.Q. is very high. He’s a tough, tough guy.”

Defensive Tackle
Starter: B.J. Hill (6-4, 300, Fr.)
- Graduated early and went through spring drills with the Wolfpack, he has added over 30 pounds since arriving on campus.
- Started the spring game.

Nielsen on Hill: “Coming in at midyear really helped B.J. to learn the system and the fundamentals. I don’t really look at him as a freshman. He’s done a great job in the weight room. He takes on double-teams and combination blocks and holds the point well.”

Backup: Monty Nelson (6-2, 312, So.)
- A second-team freshman All-American last season according to Athlon, he started five contests.
- Missed time in fall camp with an injury.

Nielsen on Nelson: “Monty was impressive as a true freshman and got great experience. He had a good offseason, putting on 15 pounds without losing a step. He’s a good anchor in the middle and I’m looking for big things from him.”

Reserve: Justin Jones (6-2, 294, Fr.)
- True freshman who has added almost 40 pounds since committing to the Wolfpack.

Nielsen on Jones: “Justin is explosive and I look for him to be disruptive, playing in the backfield and creating a new line of scrimmage. He’s quick.”

Defensive End
Starter: Mike Rose (6-3, 271, *Jr.)
- Started four games as a sophomore.

Nielsen on Rose: “Mike has really gained strength and confidence in taking on blocks. He’s working to get better and brings great experience to our group.”

Backup: Kentavius Street (6-2, 287, Fr.)
- Highly touted recruit who has already worked his way into the two-deep.

Nielsen on Street: “His high school coaches did a great job with him. He came in really strong. He played three down linemen in high school and we’re playing four so it’s different in terms of technique, but he’s used his size and speed to make up for lack of knowledge so far. He’s been in practice for two weeks and is already in the lineup.”

Reserve: Pharoah McKever (6-6, 256, *Fr.)
- Former wide receiver (yes, you read that right! Wide receiver!) who the coaching staff feels has huge potential at end.
- Tallest player on the defense.

Nielsen on McKever: “What a good guy. He’s quick twitch and long and that’s a great combination to have on the defensive line. He’s never played this position before this year and he’s still learning the position, but he has a tremendous upside and a very, very bright future. He wants to be good.” "

Each season ticket has a player on it. Not different from previous seasons. The ticket office is probably just printing off the single game tickets on regular ticket stock.

I'll give this coaching staff credit. They do a pretty good job of trying to excite the fanbase (not Amato level, but it's still better than O'Brian's staff). Maybe if they can win 1 confernce game this year, I can buy into it.

The top three teams in our division had a combined 3 losses last year (One being against each other). That is fewer losses than any single team in the other division had.
