If Joe Pa ousts his D cordinator when he should have who says he wins all those games? Who says those recruits come to the university? Who says the athletic program continues to do as well? That school has made assloads off the football program and Joe Pa's decision to save his friend AND HIS DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR. It's all sports related when he continued to coach and be a mentor to those athletes.[Edited on July 22, 2012 at 9:35 AM. Reason : fack]

I really hope the NCAA stays out of this except maybe banning some of the coaches involved. It would really suck for the fans, players, etc., who had nothing to do with this, if the NCAA punishes the school.
7/22/2012 11:48:36 AM
Who gives a shit about the fans? The players will be able to transfer with no loss of eligibility. I think people still do not realize how big of a deal an institution covering up a serial rapist actually is. Which is unbelievable.oh is this not here yet? "Unprecedented" Penalties to be levied on Penn St. http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/22/report-unprecedented-penalties-for-penn-state-coming-monday/also stop feeding aaronburro guys]

I agree its awful to penalize the fans for stuff like this while the coaches and administrators get off Scot free.
7/22/2012 1:14:29 PM
Joe Schad reporting it's likely not a "death penalty", but it's believed that the actual punishment could be more damaging long-term. Likely severely harsh post-season bans and scholarship reductions. I think a 5-year post-season ban would be brutal. Some of the pandering and speculation I've read have been quite amusing. I've read everything from "death penalty", to removal from the NCAA, to all scholarships removed, to donating all proceeds from football to child abuse charities. Should be interesting to see what they end up doing tomorrow.

the fans are/have been a part of the problem. their blind worship of joe paterno and the football program helped build a culture where it was "ok" for him and the university to harbor a child rapist. i have no sympathy for the fans, none at all. i would hope that at nc state, we would have called for that statue to be taken down immediately, and for our coach to be fired as soon as there was suspicion that he supported a child rapist. the only people i feel bad for in this situation are the players that have just come to the school.
7/22/2012 1:18:29 PM
I agree, PSU fans are a part of the problem

^^^ isn't that more justification to send a strong message to all schools to support their team, but know where the line is?

If you're mad about "football culture" being out of control, you're going to have to evaluate the entire SEC and half the Big 10 and Big 12.You're going to have to stop the massive TV contracts, the huge crowds that go to games, tailgating and basically the enormous popularity the sport enjoys.
7/22/2012 5:57:19 PM
Or just don't put dickheads in charge.
7/22/2012 6:10:49 PM
^^ exactly. the NCAA is the biggest bunch of hypocrites right now, if they try and come out and say that football shouldn't be so important. they've enabled and created this culture, and to now come down on a university for doing exactly what the NCAA wanted, making lots of money... fuck them.also, the statue of JoePa should have stayed up. They should have welded a sign to it that says "child rape enabler" and then put a plaque on it that says something to the effect of "it takes years to build a reputation and minutes to destroy it." JoePa's statue should stay up specifically to remind people what the fucking right thing to do is
7/22/2012 8:00:37 PM
^ neither of those points makes much sense.
7/22/2012 8:03:03 PM
actually, they make a lot of sense. Put a sign on JoePa's revered statue that says what he really was, a child rape enabler. Remind people that you can do a lot of good, and still fuck it all up with one dumb mistake.the other is to say that big time football is exactly what the NCAA wants, and such cultures of power are exactly what you get when there is such money on the line. oh but no, now that bad shit "has happened", oh, the NCAA wants to say "hey, don't get too big, even though we've always been encouraging you to get big. don't do that." fuck them

7/22/2012 9:09:44 PM
I dont buy this at allhttp://t.co/VKEV9haZ
7/22/2012 9:51:53 PM
If that was true, that totally gut the program.
7/22/2012 10:00:24 PM
The 1 year football ban would be the 'death penalty' which rumors say isn't going to happen.
7/22/2012 10:05:47 PM
there's also no way they get a TV ban, because that unfairly penalizes other schools. i know "fair" isn't really a key component here, but when there's billions in TV money flying around, the ncaa wouldn't dare interfere with that
7/22/2012 10:08:12 PM
Moving to IAA would be the biggest bitch slap in history.
7/22/2012 10:09:56 PM
