So could someone post a good resource on what bitcoin is and how to obtain them?
1/4/2017 10:49:30 PM
Sure, maybe this will help: A bitcoin is a number made up by a program running on either a bunch of graphics cards a fat nerd bought or a bunch of computers held hostage by Chinese or Russian ransomware. Nerds are willing to exchange actual money, goods, and services for these made-up numbers. To get these made-up numbers, you steal them from plaintext "wallet" files the nerds store on their computers' desktops. You can hack the nerd's computer, talk your way into the nerd's room, or just roll the nerd in the parking lot.[Edited on January 5, 2017 at 9:15 AM. Reason : Clarification.]

COIN ETF set to have an announcement this week. Could cause a huge pop in price.
3/6/2017 1:05:26 PM
Any info on where to buy BTC locally or paypal?I've checked out localbitcoins.com but too much BS.
3/6/2017 11:16:54 PM
Are there still people mining bitcoin?Seems like when the first quantum computer cracks a bitcoin or mines one, the price will drop-- would be a good buying opportunity then.[Edited on March 7, 2017 at 12:35 AM. Reason : ]

that's what my roomate was asking about, I swear NCSU had a group of guys that mined together on some network...I could be wrong.
3/7/2017 1:38:38 AM
Is it possible for a normal person to mine them? By normal I mean some guy in his house with a few laptops with extra cycles to spare?
3/8/2017 8:41:22 AM
^ short answer is noPeople are using ASIC miners nowI think China state actors are a majority of mining activity, I've read but not sure this is still the case.

3/10/2017 4:24:55 PM
ive started using bit coin more to pay for services that arent exactly legal. so far im enoying the unregulation and anonymity associated with it.
3/12/2017 5:55:27 AM
like assassins ? or prostitutes? I'm actually legit curious.
3/12/2017 9:25:56 AM
Is amazing to me that with the revelations of Snowden, and the new CIA leaks, that anyone thinks anything you do with an electronic device is anonymous.[Edited on March 12, 2017 at 11:29 AM. Reason : a]
3/12/2017 11:28:42 AM
Does the CIA give a shit about Novicane's drug usage?I think the more important point is that bitcoin isn't anonymous by design.

as long as the value keeps rising like it does relative to the USD, why would you ever spend it at a store or on flying lessons?

Is anyone on here buying Ethereum? Seems like it might overtake Bitcoin.
7/25/2017 10:02:06 AM
A little, made a bank contract and have messed around with some of the development tools for ethereum. It's a pretty impressive tech with some interesting use cases. The community also seems filled with scammers to even a larger extent than BTC.Cool intro to truffle and solidity: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8jI1TuEaTro[Edited on July 25, 2017 at 10:34 AM. I started buying BTC and Etheruem on Coinbase. I think I'm going to dollar cost average my way into them over the next few months. Is it safe to leave them on the exchange after purchasing?
7/25/2017 12:11:32 PM
Also, what is up with the fork that is coming up on 1st Aug?
7/25/2017 3:31:44 PM
A guy here got his coinbase account frozen after he left the country. He'd had the account for years. Took him weeks to get a customer service person. Beware I guess if you do that. The fork is scary--could be good, could be bad.
7/25/2017 5:01:10 PM
So where do you store your BTC? I didn't know about this fork when I placed my order yesterday and the currency is set to arrive in my account on the 1st of Aug. What should I do?[Edited on July 25, 2017 at 5:16 PM. Reason : .]
