Where's the best sushi in the triangle? I'm hoping to find a place with outdoor seating.
3/9/2016 1:04:30 PM
^Sushi 9. Place is on fire.
3/9/2016 1:05:41 PM
I only know of 2 sushi places in Raleigh area that, to me, is high quality..... neither have outdoor seatingand yes sushi 9 did burn down, but that would never be listed as the best sushi in the triangle
3/9/2016 3:42:51 PM
Has anyone done their own sashimi from a block of meat?
3/9/2016 3:50:44 PM
^^what's better?
3/10/2016 9:04:02 AM
Sushi O on Glenwood is very good, and has BOGO daily

^^ this is only my opinion, but I frequent Yuri. Terribly slow service on weekend nights, you could probably even say mismanaged, and the atmosphere is not high end, but the food is so good. I highly recommend there sushi and the Hamachi Kama (appetizer) sooooooooooo good, melts in your mouth drool. There is also the one famous roll they have (published in magazines and shit, made them popular I guess) its the Ahi Tower, I would definitely recommend splitting this because it is different. I have trouble making a dent in this plate and I eat sushi off of people's plates if they can't finish it Its basically all the rich fatty yummy extra shit that is on sushi all mixed togetherif you want to spend some $$ I highly recommend Maru, very nice staff, food, and atmosphere. You can't really go wrong, but I have limited dining experience here. So I cannot rate their consistency.I will admit, even as a sushi fiend, I have probably overlooked some good places..... but I can tell you what you should definitely avoid. I had terrible food from Waraji, do not go there. I couldn't eat much of my food and the waitress asked me if everything was ok, and I told her the food was not very good. She gave me a 25% discount for my next visit and I turned it down. Considering that I tend to be pretty damn understanding about fluctuating food qualityand service, I don't even want to risk it again.I also do not like Sono at all. Stuck up atmosphere and the food is $$$$ and is mediocre at best, I have had better sushi and I paid soooo much. I also got the up down look when I walked in there without a reservation. I would be willing to try it again, maybe.....Sushi Blues is highly variable, I have been there when the food is great and when it was on par with Harris Teeter sushi... and this place is also pricey. When I see big $$ I expect great food. The atmosphere at Sushi Blues is not my cup of tea, it is dark and has loud music and feels crowded when I go there. But this is certainly better than the previous two I listed. If anyone tries a good place in Raleigh let me know, I love finding good sushi!!!!

I probably goto Shaba Shabu the most. I have only had one time where the sushi was kinda meh.
3/10/2016 9:49:28 AM
oh yea I forgot shaba shabu, that place is nice too I really like the food and the quiet, laid back atmosphere
3/10/2016 9:55:17 AM
i like shaba shabu because you can get it delivery
3/10/2016 10:32:37 AM
^^ that's strange about waraji. I've never had bad sushi or food there, there sushi is usually considered the best in the area especially by the japanese population I know (sushi tsune is also popular with the japanese population as its the most traditional)

HEY DAGNABIT, ANSWER SOME SHUSHI QUESTIONS.
6/29/2016 8:24:22 AM
if you are aiming for the cary end of things, I don't know of any bogo places but I know sushi thai I believe has some low prices, and good quality.Yuri has a cheap roll menu and a 'house roll' menu, if you stick to the cheap side it isn't too $$ You need to be real careful about hunting for the sushi BOGOs, discount sushi can be high risk[Edited on July 25, 2016 at 4:59 PM. Tried making it for the first time tonight. The first couple rolls were pretty rough (as you can see on the top right) but the results were pretty tasty. Rice wasn't quite sticky enough, you can see the nigiri about to fall apart.
9/6/2016 10:06:33 PM
that grain looks pretty long for sushi rice
9/6/2016 10:18:29 PM
Maybe, I bought the best selling/highest rated sushi rice they had on amazonhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FJLXHU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1[Edited on September 6, 2016 at 10:34 PM. Reason : ]

looks good!and also, for good measure:FYI: Shaba Shabu was Shita Shitu
9/7/2016 9:52:45 AM
that looks great ^^^^ for a first go, I'm impressed! And now I want sushi the key to sticky rice is the ratio of rice vineager, sugar, and salt (for 2 cups of rice you would want 1/2 cup rice vineager, 1/4 sugar, and 1 tsp of salt) . I hear some people also include 1 TBS of vegetable oilalthough I think the ideal ratio of those ingredients depends on the kind of rice you havedammit, I really want sushi it's been months ........
