I agree with BigHit on RW. RW has never had an offseason to focus his efforts and become a better player at either sport, and now the Rockies are saying enough is enough.
5/3/2011 3:09:22 PM
They are?
5/3/2011 3:24:04 PM

is that from Predator, when Arnold shakes Carl Weather's hand?
5/3/2011 3:31:30 PM
I thought the Rockies were saying this:
5/3/2011 3:31:34 PM
The funny thing is, baseball is the sport you need the least prep work for as far as integrating yourself into a team. Yeah, you need to spend time honing your swing before the season, but you can do that on your own or with a trainer. But as far as being part of a team, you can go to a new team and be in the lineup the next day. With football, especially learning a new offense, you really need several weeks of work with your teammates to be ready to play. Which makes that September 5th date a real red flag if he does in fact intend to toss the pigskin for one more year.

Company B isn't a company. Its a voluntary deviation from his normal career path. What can he "secure" with company B? Three months of work and then what? He's a baseball player moonlighting as a football player, not the other way around. Playing football this fall would be purely a luxury.
5/3/2011 5:36:38 PM
Yeah, football is just a hobby for the guy at this pointIt's like me leaving my day job to play Call of Duty all afternoonI mean who does that
5/3/2011 5:39:49 PM
Dead wrong.Company B pays him in the form of "training".
5/3/2011 5:42:09 PM
I could go pro in Call of Duty tooIt's a hobby
5/3/2011 5:43:05 PM
Training as in practices, as in the very practices he's been voluntarily skipping for the past three years to play baseball?
5/3/2011 5:43:42 PM
Well, he can't very well fucking do two things at once? Hey, I'm pretty good at programming in C and Labview. I'm currently doing things in C but people say ultimately my future is in Labview. Hey, i tried it out awhile and I'm not sure I like it or I'm not sure (and the people that pay me aren't so sure) I'm as good at it as I advertised. Maybe I should think about going back over to C.For starters, you're taking this whole job analogy way too far but you're failing at it nonetheless. The bottom line is he is keeping his options open for how he wants to spend the next 6-12 months of his life.[Edited on May 3, 2011 at 5:48 PM. Russell Wilson doesn't have a choice. He can't choose to be a baseball player or a football player. He is a baseball player. He is not programming code. He doesn't give a fuck about code. His decision boils down to whether he wants to play football for free or not. This is not two jobs. This is a job and a hobby. This is programming code vs fishing. Trading stocks vs riding bikes. Selling insurance vs Dungeons and Dragons. Job...Hobby. Hobby...Job. I can't really make it any more black and white.

Chance, I cordially invite you to get on my level
5/3/2011 5:58:14 PM
semantics of this argument aside, i would bet a shit ton of money that the Rockies aren't having second thoughts about Wilson
5/3/2011 5:59:12 PM
Can't fault a man for being cordial
5/3/2011 6:05:36 PM
Russell Wilson will never make a dime from football, and you could easily make the argument that he's costing himself money by not committing full time to baseball. Even if not now, then down the road, when (if) he takes longer to reach the big leagues, thus delaying his service clock. Please help me to understand your argument, if in fact you have one.
5/3/2011 6:09:58 PM
^or if he plays baseball for a few years or plays out his contract, then says "oh yeah i still have that one year of eligibility left" and jets back to football pursuing the pipe dream of becoming an NFL quarterback
5/3/2011 6:11:52 PM
he COULD become drew henson AT BEST
5/3/2011 6:12:22 PM
Did anyone else know that Nyjer Morgan played high-level junior hockey? If you had me list all MLB players by the likelihood that they played junior hockey, Nyjer Morgan would probably be dead last.[Edited on May 3, 2011 at 6:15 PM. Reason : and Bob Gibson played for the Globetrotters? wtf]
5/3/2011 6:14:33 PM
i would go Ichiro Suzuki
5/3/2011 6:17:34 PM
I only knew that about Morgan because they mentioned in last year when he was trucking all those catchers
5/3/2011 6:26:25 PM
Why didn't RW enter the NFL draft this year? I mean, TJ was picked.
5/3/2011 6:49:45 PM
5/3/2011 6:52:40 PM
Sorry, I didn't realize 5'10" quarterbacks with subpar arm strength and a concussion history had a place in the NFL.Pardon my oversight.
5/3/2011 7:02:57 PM
Yeah, I'm not questioning your internet all star assessment. I'm saying the very decision to engage in a "hobby" that can only negatively impact your earning potential is a decision that next to no one would make...therefore, Wilson isn't making it solely on that basis.
5/3/2011 7:22:17 PM
^^TJ Yates was picked apparently (haven't kept up) - so at least there's a market for QBs that toss the ball out of bounds when they feel pressure on 4th down.
5/3/2011 7:32:09 PM
I think he can make several hundred thousand a year in the CFL. If Darian Durant can do it, Wilson sure as fuck can.
5/3/2011 8:03:44 PM
People play sports for fun.But I'd guess you'd have to play sports to realize that.
5/3/2011 8:15:47 PM
Then why are you fucking commenting?
5/3/2011 8:22:34 PM
Because I don't like you.
5/3/2011 8:36:11 PM
Tebow has never had a concussion
5/3/2011 8:40:58 PM
with the way he played in college i would be shocked if he never got a concussionthough having one and reporting one are two very different things
5/3/2011 8:48:02 PM
bullshit he didn't - do you forget the knee to the head in 2009 vs. kentuckyhttp://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4516919

At this point, Nice job by TOB in scratching Russell from the roster in order to give a scholly to someone who is committed to playing for us... Someone who showed up for Spring practice... someone who would not have received a scholly otherwise. If he was an absolute, then I dont think TOB would have ever started planning around MG. But he knew that time was short and that there was no guarantee ... TOB is not a gambler, and so, true to himself, he had to plan around MG.
