maybe so, but he was well aware of that when he initially took the illinois job.

Indeed.

Maybe an angry wife had as much to do with the change of heart as the cash.

So what you're saying, Jon, is that you're committing to stay and coach here at least through your son's presumable 4-year college career?

I was told by someone who works closely with the football team that his position/title is going to change and he may be moved to DC or at the least, Co-DC.

regardless, it sounded like he was not going to be the LB coach next season

It sounds like Tenuta only had just enough reasons to accept the Ill job. Yow seems to have had a good idea of what it would take to push the needle back to "staying put." So kudos to her!

Ummm... +20 for keeping him and a bonus +10 for pulling him back after he'd already been announced as a part of Illinois' staff.

When I heard the family reasons comment I just took it as a more professional backpedal compared to saying something like "they gave me more money." Oh, family. Say no more, we understand.

It might be a little disheartening that negotiations for his promotion were well underway and just failed by the time that he took the job, but it still speaks wonders that she (assuming) was able to drag him back

I just think the "don't talk about the officials" rule is the dumbest thing ever. yeah, don't allow the people who are actually affected by the piss poor performance of your employees to be able to say a damned thing about or spur any change in the piss poor performance of your employees. That'll really lead to some damned fine employees

Nothing is gained by speaking publicly about it. I'm sure she's already gone through the proper channels. Not surprising you wouldn't understand that.

This is great, I love it. The only thing that could get the place more fired up pregame is if Karl Hess was reffing the game.

^^^^ the fuck there isn't anything gained. ATTENTION TO THE PROBLEM is the number-fucking-1 thing that is to be gained. or, we can just bury our heads in the sand and pretend that the officiating doesn't suck

Heres the article.

Quote :
"NC State athletic director Debbie Yow announced Sunday that the 1989 men's basketball team will be awarded the inaugural "Wolfpack Unlimited" award prior to Tuesday's meeting with rival North Carolina.

The award will recognize individuals and teams that refuse to accept the status quo and exhibit the "never give up" spirit of the Wolfpack, the school said in a release.

Sunday's announcement comes less than 24 hours after Chris Corchiani and Tom Gugliotta, both members of the 1989 team, were ejected from NC State's 76-62 loss to Florida State by referee Karl Hess Saturday.

In 1989, NC State won the ACC regular season title, posting a 22-9 overall mark and a 10-4 record in ACC play. The squad featured the Wolfpack's all-time leading scorer, Rodney Monroe, and all-time assist leader, Corchiani. Chucky Brown, Gugliotta and Brian Howard were also key contributors.

"We are proud to honor the terrific team of 1989," Yow said in a statement. "That group proudly represents the pride and never give up spirit of the Wolfpack. They achieved success because they refused to accept the status quo. It is fitting that a team coached by Jim Valvano, the epitome of never giving up, will be the first to receive this award."

Corchiani said he and Gugliotta did not use any profanity or threaten Hess, and kept it clean as they were with their families.

"I have spoken to Commissioner John Swofford and Karl Hicks, Associate Commissioner for Basketball Operations, regarding our concerns and our need for clarification as to why this occurred," said NC State athletic director Debbie Yow. "We expect fair treatment of our fans at State athletic events.""

^^ Happens all the time in pro sports. Might not make a difference, but you don't hear people getting slagged on PTI for commenting on officiating unless they're flat-out wrong or they do it constantly.

a blatant goaltending call that blows a game or when Gallaraga was 1 out away from a perfect game and the ump blows a call, thats one thing...thats a bad judgment call by the official that potentially costs a team a game, or at least changes the outcome...thats at least something relevant to the game

this had nothing to do with us losing the game, it was unprecedented...PTI will call out Hess on Monday without us having to make a big public fuss
